RIP Mike Raymond, one of the voices of my youth. Thank you @Super100MPH for posting so many of his great moments, if you were ever to produce a tribute video we'd all be very grateful!
Super100MPH, keep up the great work, I'm a big long time fan of your efforts to keep these great memories alive (I was 15 this particular year). Brings a tear to the eye. I'd NEVER miss a race through this era, but sadly I can't say the same for today's premiere offering. In fact, it's the complete opposite.
This could result in a copyright claim due to the recent release of trhe full 85 race on DVD and in the worst case channel being taken down. And noone wants that! So you should Buy the DVD of the full race instead from cmsmotorsport.com.au
Unbelievable to think bricks 1985 car was a full 9 seconds a lap slower than the 1984 big banger Commodore to think he almost pulled it off brocky and won this race bloody good effort best Bathurst he did and didn't win was a great drive rip brocky we still miss you champ
I couldn't agree more - this is my all-time favourite race of Brock's even though he didn't win it - and it proves all the critics wrong who claim he always had the best equipment and biggest budget. Fact is they were very underprepared for group A and according to some from his team, this VK was barely much better than a road car with slicks on it. (The story of this car is told in the book by Wayne Webster "Peter Brock The Real Story" The closing stages before his timing chain broke - you can see how nervous the Jaguar team was as he continued to gain on the leader John Goss by almost 2 seconds per lap - and without front and rear screens !!!!!! Incredible
Who ever runs today’s touring car racing should hang there head in shame They’ve ruined it. I used to go to sandown and Bathurst or watch it on tv each year my mates and I couldn’t wait for Bathurst we’d watch it all day. Today I never go to a race and rarely watch it on tv The cars today are basically the same there strictly controlled in every sense. Me and most of my mates are of the same opinion We want more variety of brands not just Holden and ford so called super cars ( ridiculous name ) Bring them closer to the cars we actually buy. Not the fibre glass shell that just looks like the cars on the road. They ruined it. I’m sure the ratings on tv reflect the boring state of the the car racing today Sorry if upset’s some people but I’m not alone in how I feel. 😡😡😡
Two words: Cost cutting. Honestly I'm more concerned with the way they keep cutting grid sizes! Next year we're only going to have 24 cars in most rounds of the championship.
Pat Welsh tells Robbie Francevic he's done the sensational time of "228-37". "Terrible time!" he replies. I'm sure he felt a lot better when he was told it was actually 2:20.837 sometime later. Still is one of the best eras of Aussie motorsport. Loved Mike, Garry, Neil, and Pat. Also special mention to "Uncle" Doug Mulray in the years to come. He put his unique comedy spin on the Great Race. Good on you Super100MPH!
'stangs, Jag's, Commies, Lolvos... all in one event. Remeber the days, when drivers had balls (and been allowed) to race whatever they could've get from the dealer?
The Jags homologated Cosworth high lift valves (f1) technology from a few years before , which helped with the reliability and was good for at least an extra 50hp. TWR wanted to return in 1986 but couldn’t come to an agreement with race organisers. Would have been interesting , by 1986 the Jags had 500hp about 100 hp up on the Commodores.
Yeah.In fact the Walkingshaw wanted to bring 2 of them ,along with a Rover that he was racing in Europe.since the homologation of the Jags would hav run out by the end of 1986,he wanted to bring them out for the defence. As Mount Panorama ran counter-clockwise,the Jags were to be converted to Left Hand Drive.
Francevic drove around Bathurst in a Volvo & what came straight out of his mouth?. . . . "A terrible time." Well Robbie, choose something less "terrible" next time, mate!

How can people give this the thumbs down, this is true racing

You can buy Bathurst 1985 online or from JBHIFI. Also Bathurst 1986 has been released.
Those were the days when we had great selection of cars racing

No mate, you're right on the money
Holdens and Fords! Where are they made? Certainly nowhere near Australia

Yes that's right, also you have to pay to watch it on TV now. So it's really gone downhill.
Agree
I recently purchased the Bathurst Shootouts DVD pack, Channel 7 no longer has the footage of the 1985 Hardies Heroes. Thanks for this mate!
Remember it like it was yesterday!

Tough weekend for the Roosters
David Parsons team car qualified quicker than Peter Brock .
And Jim Richards Made up 4 of the 6 laps margin in 1979.....
Francevic drove around Bathurst in a Volvo & what came straight out of his mouth?. . . .

Well Robbie, choose something less "terrible" next time, mate!
Imagine SUPER200MPH.
