- I uploaded each Jordan-Rodman 1989 ECF matchup game-by-game a few years back, so now I'm putting all of them into one video.
It seems to me that Rodman had more success defending Jordan in 1988 and 1989 coming off the bench than he did as DPOY in 1990 and 1991. Rodman had his moments where he'd get into foul trouble, but at other times he'd do a good on Jordan man-to-man, off the ball, and as the help defender.

Can you make a defensive montage of Bobby Phills guarding MJ?
There are several games where he guarded him well enough to make MJ shoot just around 30% FG, here are some of them:

February 20, 1996
February 27, 1997
There are full games of these uploaded on RUclips. Jordan even claimed that he was his best defender around 1995 or 1996. Too bad he passed away too soon that even avid fans of the game have already forgotten him.
I think Rodman was less effective on Jordan in the later two years as he was moved into more of a starting position halfway through the 1990 season and had more wear and tear on him.

@Jay Thompson key word you used is "usually" which is exactly why I made the initial comment because this isn't usual. Roman's role changed as did his performance. Just because you win a DPOY award again doesn't mean there are no changes. Ben Wallace one the award 4 times, doesn't mean he was at the same level every year; it means he was better than the competition each time. Those are two different things.

I actually didn't watch any of the ECF/WCF and only the final minute of the Finals. I might go through that series and upload his defense myself
His defense was excellent. Coach Nick did a great brief analysis on the importance of Kawhi's defense on Giannis. He called it the "kawhi effect" lol

Here after Kenny Smith said Rodman wouldn't be able to guard him. Imagine thinking that when Rodman could even guard Michael Jordan, a guy who as basketball player is superior to Kenny Smith in every single way imaginable.
He really couldn’t guard mike he jus made it hard for mike to get to his spots especially those post up on smaller guard

Can you imagine an all time Pistons fantasy team with Prince and prime Rodman and Dumars in the same backcourt when you needed a stop? Plus, Big Ben would be in, too...
But, Rodman or Prince was the best all time backcourt defender. I'd go with Rodman, since he has done it Jordan. Prince has done it with Kobe, but Kobe's not Jordan. Although, Prince has more potential than Rodman, since he has the wingspan of a C, can dunk(so he's more than length), and able to make it work against best guards and forwards!
Rodman guarded Bird 80's Jordan 90's and Shaq 00's. Think about that.and guarded them good.
Rodman was a better weak side and post defender. He never defended in space. Mike was getting into all his spots

Rodman had a huge effect on Jordan's performance even when he wasn't hard covering him or on him directly. I have never seen Jordan take and miss so many terrible shots. Jordan was rattled. Rodman gets is Jordan's head as much or more than Jordan gets in Roman's
