    We learned about this today before his scope. That was going to be the route to go but now it’s scraping of the prostate and removal of the blockage. Prayers for anyone who is going through this. Keep the wonderful videos coming. 🙏🏻💙🙏🏻

    I had this treatment and it was excellent. Also, studies show that it does not hinder sexual function but may actually improve it.

    Amazing, the advances of medical science and PAE is one of them. A procedure much easier for the patient than other options. I had mine done on Oct 20th. BUT, as Paul Harvey used to say “and here’s the rest of the story”. I’ll start with PAIN - for a day and one half after the procedure you will feel pain. Similar to a metal shaft being shoved from your rectum to your bladder. It hurts but after that time period it starts to diminish. Actually mine took 4 days to go away. FREQUENCY - if you think you had to go pee a lot before the procedure, wait until after. Easily twice or three times as often. BURNING - oh yes, yes, yes. FEELING - along with the frequency goes the constant feeling that you have to deficate but you don’t. Day 7 - pain is less but still there, had to call doctor for additional meds. But given the horrendous recovery of other procedures, DEFINITELY worth doing. THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. GOD Bless.

      I have a 97-cc prostate so I am very interested as this as it could be the answer. Need to see if it would work for me since I got the disease and see if I could empty my bladder. Went to a local Akron hospital and they said they could assure the same success rate as the Cleveland hospitals but I ended up with radiation cystitis instead and now they tell me that there is no cure for it. They said, "It sometimes happens and nothing they can do as there is no cure. Another doctor said that it sometimes clears up on its own as the radiation dissipates but no guarantee. All my attempts to contact are blocked. At first, I could not urinate or defecate at all. That has improved by 25% (that is from zero you understand). I must catheterize for the rest as I cannot empty and have had to use laxatives occasionally to have a bowel movement. I am looking for another doctor who might be able to help me since the current doctor has no options except for TURP (good old rotor router) and all the side effects he said I would get with that, like blood in my urine, incontinence, retractable ejaculations, leakage and increased frequency and urgency problems.
      No problem for the doctor, I see insurance must have paid him as my bill there is zeroed out, so he got his money. Should have known as I only saw him once the whole time, the rest of the time I had to deal with something called "a Nurse Practitioner". They believe they are just like doctors and even have the same GOD complex. Hint: You have been warned about Akron's hospitals. I avoided stating the hospital's name for obvious reasons. They have gotten all the money I plan to give them, after all there are only two hospitals, so it should be obvious.

      @@wes613 I am confused. Did you get the PAE procedure at the Akron hospital? Or did you get some sort of radiation that gave you the radiation cystitis? And was this only for BPH?
      Thanks for sharing your story.

    Is cancer screening necessary prior to this procedure? If yes, what needs to be done? Blood work or MRI of the prostate?
    Kindly advise. Thanks.

    I am a big fan of Dr. Scholz, but I sense that he did not have much familiarity with PAE when making this video.
    Perhaps he can do an updated version, since 2 years have now passed and more is known.

    Hi Dr Scholz, just a question, if the blood supply is cut off to the prostate, would the cancer cell inside the prostate will be starved and would die too? I thank you in advance for your advise. God bless!

    The prostate dieing? I thought it just dropped the blood flow.

    • @ThePCRI
      @ThePCRI  2 года назад +5

      With PAE, blood flow is reduced to the prostate using beads that are only large enough to block the prostatic blood vessels. The idea is some of the tissue will die, the dead tissue will be processed and removed by the body, and this is the mechanism by which the prostate shrinks after PAE. Typically, men get a PAE or any other BPH treatment because they are experiencing lower urinary tract symptoms that are believed to be caused by the inward growth of the prostate applying pressure on the urethra (typically confirmed by a cystoscope so that men are not getting BPH treatments if their urinary symptoms are caused by an irritated bladder, for example). So, hopefully, after a PAE, the tissue that was applying pressure dies and the person's symptoms resolve -- at least for some time. There are some complications associated with PAE, but a vast majority of them are minor, especially when compared to other options like TURP (although, TURP could still be more appropriate for someone just depending on the severity of the situation and other unique considerations). This study discusses observed complications of PAE in section 7: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8584630/
      As you probably already know, there are also medicinal options and a handful of other procedures that could be appropriate for someone BPH. Some men have even reported success with lifestyle changes and/or different over-the-counter supplements, but none of those have been confirmed to be widely effective in large rigorous studies. Every option has its own risks, but lifestyle changes (diet and exercise), supplements, and/or the medicinal options are usually attempted first since they either have positive side effects (regarding lifestyle changes), very little side effects (regarding most of the supplements that people try for this purpose), have temporary side effects, or if they do have durable side effects, they can be reversed if the medication is stopped soon enough. Most procedures, on the other hand, have the potential to cause permanent side effects, like sexual dysfunction, but some--like the TURP--are riskier than others, for example, UroLift or PAE.
