    Wall mount the tv in the bedroom. White bookshelves will look better than the wire ones in the living room.

      Yeah, I agree as well! The wire shelves look temporary, or like they belong in your garage or basement. More permanent furniture choices will look like they belong there.

      Get the PAX system with doors from IKEA if its not too big for ur apartment it can camouflage within I hope.

    for the shelf issue, i'd maybe sell the metal one and buy one that's maybe white to fit your decor more. The metal sort of sticks out so finding something that blends in could make it appear less crowded!

    Love the new place! I'm torn on the metal rack...it's great storage, but I feel like it pulls away from all of the beautiful furniture that you have in that room!

    I vote sell both those metal shelves. They're totally ruining your vibe. If all the stuff on those shelves are absolutely necessary then consider under the bed storage solutions or adding storage shelves that go up to the ceiling in your closets. I'm not a fan of tvs in bedrooms but if you must then wall mount it so its not taking up precious dresser space. I bought and renovated a 2 bedroom apt in Manhattan last year and ever since I've been obsessed with NYC apartment content on RUclips. Love your new space! Congrats!!!

  • @topherjoe1

    Beds are your storage friends. Get some risers (set of 4 or 8) raise your bed up and slide those boxes from the living room under your bed. Measure the height, floor to top of under bed after you add the risers and get some storage bins to match so they will slide under the bed. You might want to consider space bags (the kind you suck the air out of) for maximum storage usage. Get GOOD ones! You can get the kind you roll the air out of so you dont have to rely on a vacuum cleaner if you dont have one. You can hide the under bed storage with an extra long bed skirt or make one, here is a hack by designertrapped
    www.designertrapped.com/no-sew-bedskirt-tutorial/ I did one similar. I agree, mount the tv in the bedroom or lose it. Trade in you bench for a big antique white mirror.

      I'm thinking the bench at the window. Place it diagonally with some plants. :) When you're choosing a wall mount, get a swivel. Will the metal rack fit in a closet? I would go with Ikea floating shelves for the living room.

    Sell the metal shelf unit! It is fine as is, but I think you might be happier and more settled if you went to the container store and got the adjustable shelf units (Elfa) to fit on the wall by the table. You can pick your finishes, coordinate your decorations and style, PLUS go vertical and take advantage of your taller ceilings. The metal shelves are industrial and the rest of that room is mid century modern/modern.

  • @DecadentButters
    @DecadentButters 6 лет назад +11

    Congratulations on moving Stella. I think a tall white see-through bookcase with nice decorative storage bins would be a great replacement for the metal shelving unit in the living area. Or to save money you might want to consider spray painting the shelving white so it doesn't glaringly stick out and use decorative storage bins to replace what you have now. Also, depending on how big the desk that you ordered for the bedroom you may want to consider moving the bench at the foot of the bed into that corner as well. Turn it into a place to lounge/work when necessary. Can the small television on the dresser be mounted to a swiveling wall unit above?

  • @Mimi-vw9jh
    @Mimi-vw9jh 6 лет назад +9

    Put the bench from in front of the bed next to the window... .like a nice window seat to read or work on your computer. I agree with you about the metal racks in the living room... it makes it looks kind of cluttered. Love the new apartment.

  • @sandramendoza4488

    Love the apartment. Get rid of the metal shelf it makes it look crowded. Get rid of the TV in the bed room. Get rid of the chair at the end of your bed. Don't block the windows either. Keep it minimal. Hopefully you have a storage unit where you can save those items for your future home. I don't have any decorating ideas but you have good taste in style I'm sure you will do fine.

      sandra mendoza I agree! There was a comment below that mentioned think more minimalism. That I agree with too. I’ve been downsizing and it helps so much! Those shelves and the bench take away from that beautiful view you have. You could also try storing your clothes and blanket like items in those bags that you can remove the air out of them and they become flat and way easier to store. I’m not sure what they’re called, but I hope that made sense.

    Do you have a storage unit you can store the metal rack in? I feel like it's quite cluttered in the living room. Or you can sell it and get a Billy bookcase or something from Ikea - a proper storage that better fits the space. I don't want you feel claustrophobic while you're working - with all that stuff hanging out behind you. Congrats on the new place - it's gorgeous! Amazing how all that stuff fit into a studio, isn't it? Oh, also, I suggest wall mounting the tv in the bedroom. Enjoy your new space!

  • @mikaelacazares7720
    @mikaelacazares7720 6 лет назад +1

    Ya you’re right the rack in living room by the window does look crowded. And you can get those big bags where you stuff all of your clothes, blankets, etc in and you just vacuum the bag and it because flat, and you can just stick in a closet and becomes very spacious! You want your house to be open rather than closed in with the rack and extra things you don’t need❣️ Congrats on your new Apt😊

  • @MsEhern1
    @MsEhern1 6 лет назад +8

    So strange that a bigger space doesnt necessarily mean all the previously used furniture will transition well into the new space! You did a wonderful job with the studio and made it look spacious. I'm looking forward to seeing how you do with the new apt :)

    Hi Stella! Love your Apartment. I'm so happy for you and Bart and of course franny.💝 I would just take down that big tall rack that have the containers on them, it takes up a lot of room. The stuff that's in the containers go through them and see if you really need any of it. I would go through everything and downsize only keep what you use and what you are currently wearing. You want to maximize the space. That's why you moved so you could have more space.

  • @cassierochford2881
    @cassierochford2881 6 лет назад +2

    Love love love the new apartment! I always err on the side of getting rid of stuff to make sure you don't have clutter. I wouldn't keep that wire rack in the living room...it really does make it look crowded more than the clean lines I know you would prefer. I also wouldn't get a second work space...its redundant as you said and also would crowd your room more. That seat bench is so cute but if it doesn't fit you should consider getting rid of it or putting it up against the windows for a window seat. And maybe consider mounting the tv in the bedroom on the wall to get it off the top of the dresser! Congrats on whatever you do! It looks awesome and I'm so excited for you guys!

  • @kristalortiz76
    @kristalortiz76 6 лет назад +2

    Love the new apartment and it’s definitely coming together!!!! Although I would agree that the metal shelf does make it kind of crowded! Also mount the tv above the dresser and maybe move that bench in front of the window where you said said you wanted a desk in the bedroom!

  • @TheLauren1113
    @TheLauren1113 6 лет назад +2

    Beautiful apartment although I couldn’t sleep with all that light. Do you have blinds? Definitely get rid of the metal shelf. You don’t need it. It looks cluttered. Buy a Kallax unit at ikea an also declutter. The kitchen island looks great. Move the bench in the bedroom to the corner by the windows and decorate it with pillows to read. Hang the tv in the bedroom. How on earth did you fit all that stuff in your studio apartment?

  • @mollyalonzo3533
    @mollyalonzo3533 6 лет назад +3

    Stella! Love your new place! Love love love the ikea kitchen island! It’s perfect! Maybe try a sitting area in your bedroom instead of the desk! I think the bench at the end of your bed may look good in that corner in the bedroom! Side note...frannie looks so happy in the new place! Cute little bed too! :) the apartment looks cozy already! Congrats again!
    Ps been following you for a few months now and I’m finally happy to say I’m headed out to inflight training in 2 weeks! Thanks for being so inspiring! Hugs!!!

    Hi Stella! Love your new apartment! Get rid of the metal shelf unit. Find a different storage place or purge. Move the bench at foot of your bed over to the window. No desk in your bedroom. Keep the tv in bedroom. My two cents. 😀 best of luck!!

  • @TollerLuv1
    @TollerLuv1 6 лет назад +1

    try switching around the smaller rack with the larger one. It looks like you still have some space to shove the sofa along the wall a bit...re home the bench in the bedroom and get a nice comfy chair instead with a side table you can pull in/over the chair to use for laptop work. Love your new space!

    @karam8174 6 лет назад +1

    I love the new apartment! You could hang the new tv on the wall in your bedroom that would free up the space on your new dresser. The kitchen island looks great!!!! You could get a clear plastic chair for your bedroom desk that would look really neat. I’m sure ikea might sell them. I would get rid of the metal storage area. I would add 2 or 3 rows of wood shelves and then put the nice looking baskets on them. Congrats and Frannie’ s got a pretty awesome view from his little doggie bed. 🐶

    The metal rack makes it look a lot less open and bright! I buy storage containers that slide under my couch/bed for storage. You can get them at target, or Ikea!

  • @bizzybmama
    @bizzybmama 6 лет назад +6

    Love the apartment!!! I think the metal shelf does close in that area by the desk. What about storage ottoman or a bench or something. Ikea has great things like that. For the bedroom what about moving the bench at the foot of the bed over to under the windows so when you sit you face the bed. That may open that walkway area up. Or even get a storage bench and then you can put some stuff from the living room in it. Just an idea! Love how it’s coming together so jealous of that view!

  • @juliekostas7322
    @juliekostas7322 6 лет назад +3

    Sweet suggestion for your *exquisite* apartment: keep the bedroom a minimalist sanctuary letting the bed and view be the focus. Maybe instead of a full on desk in the bedroom, consider getting another small cafe table with a chair for the window corner just big enough for a laptop, coffee and a tiny plant --there's already a lot going on in there but a small cafe table will allow one of you to work in there while the other is in the living room watching tv. This apartment is going to bring you both such joy! The metal shelving will find its way out in time. For now it's good to keep it while you get organized.

    • @nancykaya
      @nancykaya 6 лет назад +1

      Julie Kostas Julie, you have the best response!!!! When I saw that bedroom I just wanted a cozy corner to sit and look out the window. Just a laptop or book spot. And use the rack for now just to keep your stuff organized. It takes forever to unpack from a move.

  • @bhutch9312
    @bhutch9312 6 лет назад +1

    It's going to be great...ok first buy some bed risers!! This will give you storage under your bed for most of the stuff on the metal racks. Room will look much better w/bed raised.
    Metal racks are making den area look to crowded. Can't tell how big they are, could they fit in hall bath as a towel/linen rack?
    Definitely wall mount the bedroom tv.
    Do you really need both bedside tables?? I wld use the one and then move bed over, this will allow more dressing area by chest and closet and allow more room to pass by bed
    Pull rug out some, less under bed will make room look bigger:)
    Hope this is helpful:)

    I love your new place!!! I would wall mount the TV in the bedroom. In the living room I would either get different storage bins for the metal shelves by the table (all matching) or replace those shelves with wooden ones with matching bins. Either way your place is lovely and that view is to die for!!!

  • @risemahadeva
    @risemahadeva 6 лет назад +1

    I agree with a few others' comments. I was also thinking that you could put the bedroom tv on the wall and I don't like those metal shelving units in the living room at all. You definitely need something else. I think white shelves (like someone else suggested) or even brown shelves similar to the kitchen cabinets, island, or the other brown built-ins by the kitchen would work. And Stella, you may have to part with some other stuff dear so that your space isn't cluttered. As you unpack decided what you and Bart really, really like or need and get rid of the rest. Happy unpacking/organizing/decorating! :D

  • @stolenSZ
    @stolenSZ 6 лет назад +1

    I would get rid of the metal shelving. Closes and crowds the room. If you need the storage maybe a low kallax from IKEA, could have half storage cubes and half for display? I hate having a TV in our bedroom, should be a switch off zone to chill out imo but Mrs loves it..so we got a smaller one....I compromised I guess. Apartment is amazing though. Dreams.

    New place is just beautiful! I think metal rack is too crowded and almost takes over/distracts from that stunning view. Maybe sell or store it? The more you can “get rid of”, the more that space can breathe and really come to life. Open the space, don’t clutter it. Enjoy your new home!

    Love the New apartment! Mount the tv on your bedroom. Don't rush your decision and get rid of something you use/need. Is there a place closer to the kitchen for the metal rack? You could move the shelves on the other end of couch, put it where the tall lamp is and maybe put the metal rack on the other end of the couch. Can't wait to see what you do!

    I really like this apartment! Congratulations ! Since you're asking for suggestions, I think you should get rid of both of the metal racks in the living room. If you need the items, you can probably find other storage options. Also,, try using glass storage jars for whatever you want to place on the shelf under the cabinets. Since the backsplash is dark, the glass would visually open up the space.

    If your going to use the shelves in the living room get rid of the plastic containers and use baskets but use dark gray and light gray on both shelves so it looks balanced. . By doing so it will look much better with the sofa between and add lots of pillows on the sofa.. Teal and silver gray would look very classy. Also a sunburst mirror above the sofa would open up the room and reflect all the wonderful sunshine your going to have. I hope I have been of some help to you. Have fun putting it all together. Ruth

    Beautiful apartment and an incredible view! Please film it at night sometime so we can see the view at night with all the lights. I think it would look better if you get rid of the metal shelves and instead get shelves that fit better -- or better yet maybe an small, low profile narrow armoire that hides things. Ikea must have something like that for small spaces... You could also do your own floating shelves that go up the entire wall. If you stick with shelves get large baskets all the same size/color for the shelves to put the stuff in them to hide the clutter.... I am also guessing you are going to need some kind of shades for the bedroom windows eventually so you will be able to sleep later than 4 a.m. in the summer......

  • @sweetpeas8782
    @sweetpeas8782 6 лет назад +1

    I felt so flipping dizzy with those windows near your dining table lol. Sometimes you have to choose between practicality and looks, if you need storage like the shelf sometimes you have to sacrifice something else, like light from the big window. But, in spring /summer you may be glad of the shade x

    bella! yesssss!!!! And I also agree with Elle about mounting the tv. Anything you can do to save space and can make multi-functional, DO IT! If you've never seen those tiny house tv shows on HGTV, I'd check them out! Also, you could have both the bench and the desk, if the desk is rather narrow and not too long. The desk I'm imagining is a glass top, stainless steel frame that's like 1.5'x 3.5'ish and set it up next to the furnace, while the bench is next to the dresser, along that same wall. If there was any way to switch the 2 metal frame shelves, then I'd do that. put the widest one on the inside and the narrower in the dining nook. Also, try putting more things on the wall to keep the floor space clear. Wall shelves, wall hooks, etc. I absolutely looooove the new apt!!!!! Congrats!!!

    Stella! congrats on your new beautiful apartment! Love that Frannie likes the new space. So cute!
    I agree with the suggestions to move or replace the metal shelves in the living room, they take away from your beautiful view. Some smaller white ones with covered shelves would be nicer, kind of like your kitchen cabinets, would be nice. Love you kitchen island.
    in the bedroom wall mount the TV above the dresser and move the bench over by the windows to make a nice place to read or work, or just look at that fabulous view!

    Love, love, love!!! Great apartment! How exciting for you guys! I would keep the shelving, but maybe get all matching bins like on the other shelf? The island is awesome too!!! Can't wait to see the next update!

    Get rid of the metal shelf (sell on "letgo"). Keep the TV but simply mount it on that portion of the wall. Get rid of the long chair in the bedroom and get a desk with a chair that can be pushed in to save space when not in use. For the walls - get some nice canvas paintings which will really help open the space and let the ceilings look much taller

    I agree the wire racks make it seem too crowded and doesn’t go with your decor. Try to fit them in your closet or sell them. TV just looks like an eye sore maybe get a mirror and add shelf’s on the side or just the mirror itself. I have the same dresser and have it as a vanity looks pretty good to me if I say so. Looove the living room it’s coming along. What if in that area add those shelf’s you had in the last place or are those going behind the couch?

    Hey, I stay in similar apartment in NYC. What we have done is - rather than blocking the window with that big metal rack , we have made floating shelves of that wall size. Do white or floor color ones - they look cleaner n don't block you space or light. Keep the floor to ceiling window as open as possible. And yes, hang a fake plant near one of the Window , it just changes the vibe. For bedroom , I will get read of the bench or keep it next to the window where you sit & enjoy the view. You can always mount tv above the dresser. You have an awesome apartment to work with. you will make it perfect I am sure. Best luck n welcome to your new home.

    The new apartment is so gorgeous- I love those windows! If it was me, I would definitely work on downsizing all of the possessions and "stuff". You'll feel so much more at ease and free and be able to git rid of that metal shelf and the storage. Plus next time you move it'll be so much easier if you get rid of a lot of the things you don't really need. I've gotten rid of probably over half of what I own and could now pack my entire apartment in just a couple of hours if I needed to!

    The new place looks great. The rack looks fine in the corner for now. Give it a few days to see if it grows on you. What a view and it looks like you’ve found a good apartment to grow into for now. Congratulations and enjoy the new place.

    I think your thoughts are all over bc you're focusing on the entire place. focus on one room at a time. The thing from ikea for the kitchen is just placed awkwardly in the center....makes the kitchen crammed. The two tall things on each side of your sofa carrying bins are making the living room crammed. Same with the sitting bench in the room . Just get a one seat sofa and put it in the corner of your room. Your furniture is kind of tacky! You need a flow Stella! You can do it! One room at a time!

    Congrats on the new place! Thank you for taking us along on your journey! 😊 I love your aesthetic! Super chic! If you don’t want to spend money on a new shelving unit for the living room since you need the storage, maybe think of painting the metal shelf white or you can also find fabric or material to cover it so that it hides all the stuff and feels more cohesive to your decor! I live in a small space so I always have to come up with creative storage! Love ya! 😘

    The island makes the kitchen, without it you would have ZERO prep space. I would suggest making a wider walkway between it and the sink/dishwasher cabinets, the usual "rule" for kitchen walkways is 4 feet wide. The bigger shelving unit doesn't work, sell it and get another one to match the one at the other end of the sofa. Put everything in matching baskets or bins, like the smaller shelving unit you already have. I can see why you want a desk in the bedroom, but how will you manage all the electrical cords? Both of you work at home a lot, you definitely need a desk. I agree with others who recommend wall-mounting the bedroom tv. Is there space for that little settee in your entry, it's a perfect place to sit when putting shoes on and taking them off. I voted for you at the Shorty website.

    Love the apt. I would keep the shelves because they are handy to have. I would invest in 2 different types of containers/baskets for the shelves that sort of match, but are a bit different. I agree with the post below and wall mount the t.v. in the bedroom. I wouldn't go with another table in the bedroom, but move the little settee around so you can lounge on that and look out at that amazing view!

    In the bedroom, take a 12”-15” wide x 8’ long white shelf, (Home Depot) add Ikea legs to it and put it in the bedroom, up against the window, as a desk for 2 . The Dog bed will fit under it. And you can add rolling drawers from Ikea under it too.

    Consider replacing your round table with a corner bench and dining table. The benches also come with storage which could reduce the need for the silver storage racks.

    Bedroom: Wall Mount TV above dresser. Put bench in corner & get a Philodendron “Lacy Tree” plant beside....will bring some green to your room. Don’t put desk in there. Your dining table & couch is your workspace.
    Living Room: The tall shelf system with the matching baskets need to be moved where the over-sized shelf system is (behind your dining set). This then opens up that built in shelving that it was blocking.....use to store some books, cookbooks, pictures, and your bulk pantry items...like nuts in jars, lentils in jars, etc. The big shelf would be great in a closet, but know you don’t have the space. Definite sell. I’m thinking of ideas for that storage. Is is stuff you need accessible a lot? Or occasionally?
    ISLAND LOOKS FANTASTIC. Goes perfect with kitchen.

    Stella: I gotta tell ya, I watch your channel while at work - grab quick glimpses because I think you are just so fabulous. Congrat to you and Bart - WooHoo. I love the apt. I used to live upper West Side but that view is stunning and the layout is wonderful. I would remove the shelves and enjoy the open feel of the room. Many blessings for peace, love and happiness!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for finding the time to share your move! Amazing! Enjoy your new home! I have the same dresser as you in your bedroom. My advice is to reinforce the drawer bases! They bend very easily if you fill the drawers too much, which one tends to do. Good luck finding homes for everything, think that's the hardest part of moving! Thanks from uk.

    Keep the TV, but mount it and get rid of the rack it does make the Living Room appear smaller and instead of adding a desk to the bedroom, move the bench in the window space and maybe a ottoman(with a cozy throw) and when you want to work in the bedroom you can use a temporary solution like a nice TV table or something that can be put away..

    The apartment looks great! I recently moved to Brooklyn from Florida and I understand your storage issue. As much as it pains me I had to go minimal and every item that I had I thought will I ever use this again and how often will I need it. I recommend getting rid of the metal shelf; those look like they belong in an industrial kitchen. I would mount the tv in your bedroom on the wall above the dresser. As for the lounge seat on the foot of your bed I would move that to the side of the bedroom around the area where you want to add the desk. You can drape some blankets or add any extra pillows to it so that it looks comfy and if it is high enough to store anything underneath it then there is more storage space for you. If there are items you want to keep but you know you wont use them for a couple of years maybe ship them to a parents house that doesn't mind storing them or rent a storage unit.

    Congrats on the new place very nice. I'd move the metal rack to the bedroom where you wanted another desk. Move the kitchen island facing the widows, remove the bench in the room and wall mount the tv. Again congrats.

    The big metal shelf does take up quite a bit of space. Maybe you could get the racks to store those things on the ceiling in a closet. Mount the tv in the bedroom. :) If I can remember the girl I follow on RUclips who has some fantastic small apartment solutions I will let you know!

    Love the new apartment. Looks great. Everything you have fits nice in it. The kitchen island may I say AWESOME. Instead of a desk in the bedroom why don't you put a sofa lounge there in that corner to relax reading or even work but comfortable. Just a suggestion. Thank you Stella for sharing.
