David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

2:41 Bowie getting up is the most vampiresque thing ever.
You're right and that's saying something
My god Mick Ronson is amazing. The whole band is on fire here.
Fantastic .... I hope my YT David Bowie Interpretation songs make him smile from far far
Ikrr
Absolutely agree ... I'm a one man band playing DB songs on RUclips and it cheers my soul to the core.
Yes Bowie, of course. But Ronson on this...f ing incredible. He takes it to a whole nother level, right into my heart.
@@cattycorner8 Totally agree ... I cover a few Bowie songs on YT and I always think of Mick whilst playing his lead parts.
"perhaps you're smiling now, smiling through this darkness"......
We should be on by now, we should be on by now.
Time is running out for some of us
It's 9:25,,,,I'M STILL ALIVE!!!
Goddamn, you’re looking old, you’ll freeeze and catch a cold, cos you’ve left your coat behind.
@@andalltheangelssay212 Love this!!!! I'm not the only one who remembers!!! Time!!!!
Anyone notice Mick making his guitar “scream” as Bowie screams at 2:11
wishywish I think that’s Mike Garson on piano.
yup
0:09 So ahead of his 'Time'. David Bowie T-Posing 40 years before anyone else. A true visionary
It was very popular back then.
gotta assert dominance on the haters
isn't Jesus like, the original T-poser?
Bowie was like a magnificent exotic bird and Mick was a sexy pirate. Wish I could've seen them perform together, such chemistry!
@DPC Mick Ronson not Jagger
@DPC that's totally irrelevant. It has no bearing on Ziggy and the Spiders.
0:56 the clarity in that note when he sings 'demanding' tears me up every single time
To 3:03-3:28 where he’s cloaked in the dark with his face towards the crowd and back turned to us while the light flashes around his red silhouette. Amazing and just art.
Merci 👍danke ✌️ thanks 👏
Ziggy....you gorgeous creature. Goddamn it!! He's just plain fucking beautiful!
Oh it is just ridiculous how great a performer he was. Best ever.
YES!
Their final as the spiders
Totally agree
I'm in shock omg
until the drugs stopped and he got clean in 80s he then became bland and boring and had ran out of ideas to steal and sacked the greatest guitarist and band and clutched at straws the rest of his career
This is a Masterpiece...
This.IS.rock.n.roll.
@@voyagersa22 It ain't genocide
How many moments of utter perfection did Bowie create? Incredible.
At least 2. One was his entire life, a single moment stretched out into 69 years, and the other was that saxophone solo in Soul Love.
@@chrismeadows4216 hahaha true
I love 2:27, when Mick, plays guitar over Bowie's body. They were such a cool Duo together. Classic Spiders From Mars. Bowie, was so ahead of his Time, Lalalala Lala.
UGH YES
Bowie had a great eye for others talent.
This is rock and roll.. The best character of Bowie in my opinion...
Yes!
By far!
@@TheJackflash85Well the Duke comes close...
Will there ever be another like him? I doubt it. Bowie was simply marvellous.
Regarding performance, I think Mercury and Jagger deliver something of about the same tier.
And b4 you realised what a performer he was GONE !
NEVER,UNFORTUNATELY
2:25 that is stage presence and rock n roll storytelling right there
bowie forever
Hands down Ronno is one of the best. He adds a special element that can’t be replicated that really makes early Bowie’s music so memorable. Rest in peace my angels!! ❤️❤️
This is quite possibly the single most camp performance I've seen in my entire life...
I bloody love it
He was a true performer on stage.
The lord of rock...forever and ever...love Bowie
Divine.
Oh wow. The magic and beauty of Mick and David in those last few seconds....
Like a Renaissance painting
lets not forget mick ronson he was the sound of the spiders and was a big influence on bowie and other great musicans he produced and worked with many great artists and he's always been my hero love him
My hero too 🤩
Bowie’s lyrics are phenomenal
Greatest ever sadly missed each day
He creates the best atmosphere for Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From the Mars , the sounds, the red light, his way to act, to be Ziggy. Besides that, this is truly a masterpiece. There is a feeling that it creates that make you obsessed with it. It is unbelievable and beautiful. Just like David Bowie.
Porco dio, what an incredible show was that! From start to end. I must have watched it hundreds of times in the last thirty years, and every time it carries me to another world, and a beautiful one.
Lovely
hahahahahahahhahahaha grande
Can't stop crying😭
Love your profile photo. "Just like that bluebird . . . ."
Superfan ... Same Here ... I hope my YT Bowie songs makes him smile from far far away.
"Breaking up is hard .but keeping dark is hatefull "
there was a period in Time where all I could do was listen and watch this song. I was a fan of his before watching this, but this made me obsessed with him. the genius in song writing, the theatricality of the performance, stellar voice... David Bowie transformed into a muse of ancient Greek mythology in this song and just completely drew me in. he is one of my biggest inspirations, in my music and who I am as a person today.
+Bendage i couldn't agree more, i must be o my tenth listen, its a masterpiece
+Bendage I totally agree.
+Bendage a super fantastic song yes
+Bendage YES YES YES WHEN I HEARD THIS SONG IT CHANGED MY LIFE. I became obsessed with him too, watching and reading everything i could get my hands on because it is SO genius so powerful, so artistic. i even wrote an essay analyzing the song just for the hell of it
He wrote it in New Orleans actually.
Bowie's most affecting song. It's amazing.
Loved it since I was 14. Love it still.
That stately bass playing is superb. And Ronson, ofc.
The sniper in the brain....
When I watch these videos my Mind can’t comprehend that he is a real person he’s just too perfect
Einfach unbeschreiblich. Unglaublich.
Bowie wusste damals schon genau, dass er hier etwas historisches für die Ewigkeit abliefert.
Look how he rises from the ground at 2:40
Amazing.
It's the power in those legs.
@@couplakooks Yep, they're beautiful, like a wild colt.
Bowie is just as good live as he is in the studio!
Time is definitely my favourite song from Aladdin Sane, I love that sort of opera story telling feel you get through the drama he performs it with. It's hard to put into words, it's just one of those songs that sticks with you.
Like Sweet Thing on Diamond Dogs, all three parts
Thank christ this was filmed!
Those background vocals around 1:20 are otherworldly
this song is one of the best. just beauriful. God bless you Mr. Bowie. much love and gratitude for everything you've done
“And all I have to give is guilt for dreaming”
Lovely
Love the look on his face as he finishes his song. Just totally embodying his performance.
Time takes, renews, recycles and returns. Ziggy Masterpiece.
Why he's so perfect?
this is SO GOOD i love bowie so much
How much love
My favorite song. An absolute masterpiece.
only bowie (especially in his ziggy period,my fav) can express this strange melancholic-pop-rock-savage-artistic-multi cultural-tribal attitude and music...a mix i can't describe but i will forever LIKE.
David's sound changed after the spiders from Mars era, ever woundered why? One of the main reasons is that he stopped working with this great, sadly uncredited, arranger called Mick Ronson ( lead guitar). Mick single handedly arranged most of the songs on the Ziggy Stardust album even post and pre. You could tell Mick had his finger in there. David once said that Mick understood the certain theatricality needed for some solos, and as an example mentioned Time ( I prefer the single solo more than this live one because it's too short). Mick also did backing vocals along side David and it's amazing how their voices would match, Mick would usually sing the higher where David would sing the lower notes, Spacd Odditiy live as an example. So behind the genuis David Bowie that was a folk musician are the great spider from Mars that gave him his signiture rock n roll sound needed for the early 70s. But the combination of David's artistic image and lyrics, and idea of using new/ experimental instruments along with Mick's guitar voice and arrangements, Mick Woodmansey's powerful drum sound the Trevor's bass made it what it was. RIP to Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders that are back on Mars or at least not longer with us.
@Mauro Van der Kerkhof Rhoads stage presence mirrors Ronson's to be sure, but the guy who really clipped Ronson's guitar style is Ace Frehley .
@Mauro Van der Kerkhof Interesting story . Thanks for sharing it .
Cocaine. Lots of coke.
Solo is cut short by Bowie who’s annoyed with Mick playing a rare clam leading into it!
I am going to disagree. Love the arrangement, but I think the David Live is better because he recruited David Sanborn, a bari sax player and kept Mike Garson (who wasnt a Spiders From Mars member). Love Ronson, but his writing after him (Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station) was much more diverse.
I love it when musicians are expressive and playful with their delivery of lyrics the way Bowie was, it is so much more entertaining than a generic sounding performances that are replicas of their generic sounding studio versions. I think its important or else you end up sounding like most people. I like it when artists, for example purposely go a bit off pitch to convey emotion because I know they could sing on pitch perfectally if they wanted to but often its a stylistic choice .
Thank you God for David Bowie
Thank you Bowie, thanks for having been part of my life, and of my Youth, and part of my friends' and boyfriend's life and joy. "We should be home by now.............................". I will miss your Poetry. Arianna

@@kevstergreen7077 I just read that it was written in New Orleans in 1972. I was born in New Orleans in 1972. Nice.
Poetry. He sings about Billy Doll, quaaludes (a very fantastic drug long ago), the doors to dreams was closed. and so on. He was a wonderful artist.
Mmm quaaludes not such a great drug.
New York Doll Billy Murcia, and indirectly Paul Kossoff both succumbed to them.
Sad days.
A great performance by Bowie at Hammersmith though.
Ronson makes this for me. I saw this tour at Newcastle City Hall, went to watch Bowie....ended up spellbound by Mick.
2:25 my fav part

Greatest Rock star of all time. Thank u David for all the years of great music you have left us.
Definitely 👍
amazing, would have liked to be with that crowd
Liked?! There is nothing of this mortal world that I would not have given to be in that crowd...!!
I was in the crowd at Salisbury City Hall two months before this performance. Although it's the standout memory from when I was 19 years old, it's proved impossible to remember it in all its detail. I'm grateful for this video, otherwise I may have forgotten what he was like 'live' completely. Sad.
And so i
It's an incredible performance by Bowie. And Ronson .. just at his wild best.
0:51 is the best part IMHO going from talking to the crowd to singing about Billy Murcia's death.
😆absolutely
"Time"
Time, he's waiting in the wings
He speaks of senseless things
His script is you and me, boy
Time, he flexes like a whore
Falls wanking to the floor
His trick is you and me, boy
Time, in quaaludes and red wine
Demanding Billy Dolls
And other friends of mine
Take your time
The sniper in the brain, regurgitating drain
Incestuous and vain
And many other last names
Oh, well, I look at my watch, it says nine twenty-five
And I think "Oh God, I'm still alive"
We should be on by now

You just scream with boredom
You are not evicting time
Chimes, goddamn, you're looking old
You'll freeze and catch a cold
'Cause you've left your coat behind
Take your time
Breaking up is hard, but keeping dark is hateful
I had so many dreams
I had so many breakthroughs
But you, my love, were kind, but love has left you dreamless
The door to dreams was closed
Your park was real dreamless
Perhaps you're smiling now
Smiling through this darkness
But all I had to give was guilt for dreaming

This version has always been about Trevor Bolder’s bass playing imho. He plays beautifully around the melody giving a depth the studio version lacked. It comes to the fore at 4:41.
I agree. It truly shines in this live version.
