David Klimmek but for the price man. I was at the dealerships today and a base model (from what they told me) runs around $30k. Fuck that, I’ll stick with 07 Sport 3.0 and 2011 F250 6.7. Cost me $6k and 7k for either one.
No manual either... I would love a 2011 2.3L 6 speed but the prices are too high for a nearly ten year old vehicle. I'll just stick with my 2001 2.2L 5 speed S10 with rack and pinion conversion.
93 ranger 2wd 5sp 2.3l my daily work ride. 478,000 miles and still running strong! I bought it ten years ago. Needed something with a bed yet easy on gas. Had 200000 on it when bought it and have changed the timing belt and water pump twice now. Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned!!
$1400.00. He wanted $2200 for it but it needed a clutch master cylinder so I got him down. It has 492,000 miles on it now and original engine transmission and rear end! Lol
That 4.0 is Super reliable, it’s like the six in-line jeep engine. Pretty much bulletproof. The transmission however for the Ford Ranger..... not so much.
@@noobjitsu1743 The M5Od manual trans in the rangers are bulletproof you won't have to worry really. Take care of it and it'll likely hit well over 400k miles
I recently bought a 1999 Ranger 4x4 with the 4.0l. It has 218,000 miles on it and had to swap out the leaky and poorly maintained original engine. We dropped another 4.0l with 80,000 miles. After doing some minor repairs and a sound system upgrade, my son (15 yrs) and I have turned this truck into a sweet ride. He's really proud of his future Ranger.
I have a hobby of parking right next to brand new compact trucks and comparing sizes. I have determined my Ford ranger can fit in the Jeep gladiators glove box.
You are correct on the size, also the price I love my 08 black FX4 5sp manual. No way am am payin 40 grand for a tacoma trd pro Yes they are good trucks but come on. cost more than a house.,well 20 yrs ago...
@@1944Jakob I got a 98 to! dumb guy sold it to me with some freaking new mud tires! I had to take it. Buying another ranger that runs with my taxes! Will use the 98 as parts. My first one had leather seats and vinyl flooring I really miss that combo
Bought a 4x4 2011 Ford Ranger XLT with the 4.0L V6 in November of 2023... there were many people clamoring to get the truck. Final price was $17,900. These things have appreciated like crazy! I don't regret it one bit. Every time I step into the vehicle, I smile. It only had 50k miles when I bought it, and it was southern-owned and southern-manufactured, so no rust. I'm positive this thing is going to last me for over a decade with minimal maintenance.
how's it working out for you? I've started my search for a 3rd generation with the same specs that you got and I've been looking across the western party United States - I'm willing to go anywhere to get a rest free low mileage 06-12 XLT supercab with a 6-foot bed, and a camper/canopy would be a bonus. yes, prices are amazingly high, some people are asking the moon for their beater. But it does look like some honest people are selling clean vehicles with records, they're just not exactly what I want... are you actually getting 15/19 MPG?
@@Yowzoe Yo! It's going great. I don't know what MPG I'm getting (it's kind of a pain to measure it) so I'm just assuming 16 MPG combined since I mostly do city-driving. I added a tonneau cover which helps a tad bit. Overall, I regret buying the truck just because I believe pickup trucks are one of the least efficient and least convenient types of vehicles for an average person to own. I should have purchased something like an AWD SUV, wagon, etc. But I made my bed, so I'll be sleeping in it for a while. I took out a 5-year loan, so I'm going to give it at least a couple years to get ahead of the loan before making any decisions. I do enjoy the truck, and it has come in handy a couple times. Just going to enjoy it day-by-day and have fun with it.
Good little truck. Given that I live in a brutal 4 season climate, this truck has served me rather well with no major issues for about 125,000km (bought it at 160,000km.) Everything from mountain excursions, getting to my job sites, and going to different schools, she's always been there. Although the 3.0 is quite the slug, it does make for the perfect trade off in reliability. You can tell it's got that old fashioned American engineering behind it, made with the intention to put in work for a long time.
@PhamVans: I put a Jet brand Mass Air Flow unit on my 3.0L along with a new Throttle Position Sensor. It made a big difference for me. The Jet unit is open on the inside whereas the original unit has a divider down the middle which restricts air flow. The Jet unit provides 40%(?) better air flow over the original unit. Look on youtube for the air box modification you can do to get better air flow into the engine. My engine is a 3.0 Flex fuel and it pings terribly on regular. I use premium and it runs great and a little better gas mileage, which helps offset the higher price of premium.
I have a 2007 Ranger XL 4X4 Regular cab with the 4.0 SOHC 207 horsepower V6 and a 5-Speed manual. Best truck ever. Simple, easy, powerful. Many desert vacations and back road visits to ghost towns in it. The only difficulties are not having interior space for many things and it doesn't have cruise control. But I wanted the shortest cab/wheelbase and got it :) I can attest to the 18 MPG highway mileage on 4X4 tires. On regular street all seasons it gets 19.5 or so.
Have an 03 EDGE. Had it for 15 years. Fixed a lot. Ball joints, fluids, new radiator and water pump. Plugs tires brakes and suspension. Runs like a top. Paid 3 grand in 2012. this truck won't die.
My 2006 3.0 Vulcan 5 speed manual Ranger is still going strong @ 150,000 miles. minimal maintenance. I'm 6'4 240lbs & I don't need a "big truck" the 3rd gen Ranger suits me well.
+1 to the transmission valve body gaskets going out. Around 130k mine was having shift issues going into gear, slipping out of park, and engaging 3rd gear. I did some research and pinpointed it to the VB gaskets and a few springs. I took a weekend pulling off the valve body, putting in a Trans-Go shift kit, and replacing the gaskets and properly torquing the bolts back. All of the issues have been fixed and its been great for over a year now. Also the throttle cable will become loose over time. Look up the chris-fix video for how to fix this with a few zip-ties, its very cheap and easy.
i have a 2010 ranger sport 4.0 i bought new and it has never burned a quart of oil in 92,000 miles its been the best truck i ever owned , its 11 years old and never had a issue or problem even the a\c still freezes ice cold its a really good truck for sure
Bought a used 2010 Ranger Sport extended cab back last May. 48,000 miles. Original tires. Replaced the tires, transmission cooling lines rusted and failed, but fix wasn’t too expensive. I’m enjoying the hell out of it. Nice little pickup. Nice for hauling materials for my house. Love it.
@@jnic2003 That engine is the best engine ford ever produced. I had a 83 f 100which I sold it had 340,000 on it the new owner put another 100,000 on it then I had a '95 f 150 when I got it it had over 200,000 unfortunately it was parked on the street and a drunk driver crashed into it so bad ripped the body off the frame. It was a little over 260,000 still running strong. Keep your oil changed you'll be good
@@jasonduke3608 yes sir! I recently went through and did most of my gaskets, and fixed my oil leak. The thing runs great and shifts fine as far as I know.
With my 2011 2.3 I get 34 miles to the gallon at 50 miles an hour 30 miles to the gallon at 60 miles an hour and 22 miles to the gallon at 70 miles an hour. It's been a good truck and a good motor.
Picking up a 2WD 2011 2.3L 5 speed manual ranger soon! It was owned by a 60 year old fisherman who was very very proud of his little ranger since it was his first ever new vehicle. He got it custom built straight from the factory, no carpet, no suicide seats, with heavier suspension, and running boards since he was a lil guy. He babied the hell outta it, oiled it, drove it easy, hardly in the winter time and only ended up clicking 90KM on the thing before he got cancer and died 6 months later. Before he bit the bullet he took it back to the dealership to get it all fixed up for his wife so she could sell it at a mint. Anyways, she ended up selling it to my buddies friends wife who owns a fish store, it was gonna be her business partners vehicle but he refuses to learn manual. I heard about it down the grape vine, I'm one of few people who knows of her. Gonna get her lifted up soon, she's already all certified and safety but just to be safe yknow. As long as she passes and doesn't have any major issues, she's mine for 10k. Fairest price i could ask for, she just wants to get rid of the thing. I see rangers being sold online for 10k and they've got 200km on them!
I've got an 07 2.3 5 sp manual. with only 450K miles on it. The only thing I've done to it is replaced the clutch once and the clutch slave cyl a couple of times. Oh yea I replaced the air cond. clutch a couple of times and it still blows cold air.
You nailed it mentioning that FMC goal for Affordability and decent fuel Milage in a compact p/u truck. The current model does NOT meet any of those criteria. e
my 2011 fx4 4.0L ranger is an absolute beast. I've done nearly 200,000kms and 100k of those have been what i would consider serious off roading..... Service forests roads, camping in the bush, work, you name it... that ranger Hasn't skipped a beat. It's modestly lifted with mudders. You guys don't realize the places that truck has gotten me. places where there are no roads in or out.. It's been in accidents, its been in rivers, its been stuck, all 4 wheels off the ground, it's had rocks thrown at it by sasquatch on 2 occasions.. All across BC baby. Cheers ✌️
I have a 96 that I have had for 20 plus years. It's probably around 300000 miles (odometer quit around 200000 ten years ago). It has only ever broken down one in all of these years. Changed timing belt and tensioner a couple of years ago. Other than oil changes, and the occasional battery change, and one radiator, and a couple of brake jobs, I have never done anything to it. I would drive it on the highway anywhere. They are great trucks!
Just found this video after having rebuilt my 99 4L ohv motor with new heads and performance valve train. Worked on it on and off for past 1.5 years. Haven't had it on a dyno but supposedly a gain of ~50 more horse and torque over the stock motor. I bought the truck brand new in 99 and some years later got cracks in the heads between the intake and exhaust valves. It would go thru coolant and foul spark plugs pretty regularly. Had a "mechanic" give me a botched head replacement job that sucked the power out of it and go thru enough motor oil not to have to worry about oil changes.... After doing the new build myself and adding some performance 1.8 Harland sharps rockers, shorty headers, hydraulic lifters, and a dual catback, I suspect I'm going to have an even better truck than before...
Our 11 Ranger is our 4th one since 88. They’re very durable and reliable. The 2.3L is bulletproof. Our 88 4X4 super cab XLT, 5spd stick was still going strong after 370K miles, but sadly the electrical system fried and the truck caught fire 😢.
And during those high-school years? Forget about it! take out your date with air mattress in the truck bed, a little FM radio, some sleeping bags and a bottle of fireball and youre gonna be a coochie assasin
I had a 99 Ford ranger that I beat black and blue for 2 years straight. Only think that finally “killed” it was when I sunk the truck over the hood (was 2wd). Got pulled out and the ranger was hydro locked, pulled the plugs, fired it up. Terrible rod knock from where I had bent the number 4 connecting rod. Still drove it home 23 miles. It’s still running to this day with a new rod. See it around then after selling it 2 years ago.
@@canadiangamer3297 honestly pretty good I mostly just use it to get to work but I’ll load up my cr125 and rip at the dunes, haven’t gotten stuck yet! Plus my cousin hooked me up with a 12” Rockford fosgate so I’m bumpin🤘took it to Oregon first of July, did great I’ve put about 4K miles on it.
In 1984 I got our 78 Ranger F100 (pre compact ranger) stuck in the mud and that spring the river flooded and dragged it dep in the river. That summer we were able to drag it out with a tow truck. Blew out the water through the spark plugs and changed all the fluids and fuel, changed the distributor, plugs and wires and she fired right back up. Even the gauges still worked.
I had a 93 ranger. I still cry when I see pictures of her. She was at 760 thousand miles. Got sideswiped while parked. I got 4 grand from there insurance company. I went bought a 97 for 300 dollars fixed her up to alleviate my grief. Rip bluetruck
I love these little trucks ... You could get these in so many different configurations but I think I have the rarest and most unique config. I have a 2007 white Ford Ranger Sport regular cab with the 4.0 S.O.H.C. mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. I think the only way you could get this version was to have it special ordered by a dealer. The other ones that became very unique in 2004-2011 is the regular cab with the 7' long bed. I also noticed that staring in 2004 you could not get the 4.0. S.O.H.C. in a 2WD regular cab. I have mainly seen that config. in the 2001 EDGE Rangers.
Have a ‘98 2.5 2WD Auto trans with 216,000 miles. Bought it 12 years ago with 70,000 for $1750 and it just keeps on going. Replaced a cracked radiator, starter, 2 batteries, and all the wearable suspension components, but besides that it just won’t die! Also put on some 15” alloy wheels from a ‘98 Explorer and 30” BFG’s. Handles and looks a lot better than the little 14” tires. I took this truck places a 2WD Ranger with 14” tires should not go. Got 2 feet of air hitting a washed out section of logging road and didn’t break anything, just drove right out the other side.
Bought my 98 2.5 new and have 176,000 miles. For some reason it was the only one on the lot that had 15 in wheels which I liked. Only minor repairs for almost 22 yrs I’ve had it.
I have been driving rangers since they first came out in the 1980's. I was working in a Ford dealership at that time. As far as I am concerned, I have a extremely reliable vehicle that is second to none. I have owned 2.3, 3.0, and 4.0.
My first vehicle was the 2002 long bed ranger 4cl. Bought it with 201k miles back in 2015 and now has 264k. It was my daily for 2 and a half years until I bought a miata and a f150. I'm going to start driving it again this summer and hit 300k miles by the end of the year. The engine itself is solid and the transmission has been slipping since the day bought it but neither have giving me problems other than maintenance. Im going to drive it till the wheels fall off.
As a 17 year old who’s parents gave him a 2003 ranger with a 4.0 v6 and a manual trans it’s hard to talk reliability lol, it can take a lot of abuse but finally at 195,000 miles the trans lost 2nd gear, the other gears are good enough to drive and still take abuse daily and it just blows my mind how strong that truck is
That's more than likely just a shift solenoid but I'd find a 5spd swap asap. The transmissions had crap valve bodies and they cause many issues. I did an engine swap to get a manual. Take care of them and you'll get your money out of them. Plus they're all over, so parts (or parts trucks, it's what I did) are readily available.
I double clutch when driving my 92 Ranger 5 speed and it works fine. It can take a lot of abuse. I load the bed down with firewood, gravels, scrap metals, appliances. . .ect while pulling a loaded trailer often and it has never failed me
I had a 2002 Ranger XLT with 4.0 lt. but recently sold it. It was a useful truck to have around as it could haul full-size sheet goods with tailgate open. The truck was 2 WD which was undriveable in any snow. The thing that irked me was the horrendous gas mileage. The best I could get was about 15 mpg and that dropped to 12 when winter formula gas was at the pump. Between the poor gas mileage and small gas tank this truck was always in a state of running out of gas. I do miss having a truck
Back in the early and late 90's, the huge things were the full-sized family vans, Bronco, F350, Blazer, Suburbans. Those were arguably the big big civilian vehicles you would see in the streets, and the sedand were HUUUUUGE The Ranger is perfect in size, and not too big not too small Today everything is gigantic, the Colorado, Ranger, Tacoma, Ridgeline look as big as an old 1998 F-250 give or take The full sized pickups today make even those family vans look like shrimps Hope they make small trucks again
LOVED my ‘93 XLT Ranger which was my first self purchased auto when I was a teen and sadly and stupidly traded it in when I moved to DE in 2004 but found a 2010 XLT in 2020 and am never letting go of it again. I looked at the new Ranger and it’s a very nice truck but just too big for my needs-auto makers are missing out to buyers who want a nice compact truck which is why I think the used market for these trucks is very hot now(also the smaller Toyota Tacoma and the Ranger’s cousin the Mazda B series are equally great compact trucks). Took me almost a year to find a low mileage, great condition Ranger but made it ‘mine’ with some mods to capture the old school look I was after.
I just bought my first truck. A pre-owned base model 2.3 5m XL with 55k on the odometer. I hope it serves me well. I like the smaller truck size it is perfect as a daily and light hauler.
Ford made a mistake killing this truck, and replacing it later with the midsize version the rest of the world got. Don't care for it! And you can't get a manual anymore!
We have a 2011 Ranger XLT super cab with a 4.0 V6 and an automatic transmission. It’s a 4X4 LSD, tow pkg. I’ve added a K&N intake, FlowMaster exhaust, spray in bed liner, adjustable air shocks in the rear. Custom 2 tone paint (factory silver over red metallic), custom upholstery to match the exterior, running boards, custom wheels. It’s almost 12 years old and I only have 35K miles on it, as we use it for work around our property. After adding the intake and exhaust, I consistently get 25mpg on the freeway with the cruise set on 75mph. This is our 4th Ranger. Most Ranger’s can haul 1/2 a yard of dirt, but bc of the air shocks, I can haul a full yard. We work our pickup, but we don’t abuse it. The oil is changed every 4K miles with Mobile 1 full synthetic and the front and rear differential, transfer case and transmission fluids are changed every 30K miles. I’m taking it to my mechanic next week to have new belts and hoses replaced along with a radiator flush and new anti freeze. I should have done it last year but the pandemic put everything off kilter for a year or so.
Good video! I have owned three Ford Rangers that I purchased new, a 1986, 2004 and a 2000. I used them for work and they all held up well. I really like the size of the Ranger with a seven-foot box. I am now on my fourth Ranger which I expect to last a long time. I have replaced three rear spring perches and shackles. I did not have to use a welder to replace them.
Ive had three different generations, 87, 95, and 03 and every one of them, after lining out their problems ran fine and made damn good work trucks. Their 4x4 ability is like no other! Would not recommend however if you are looking for fuel economy, none of the ones I owned ever got better than 15-17MPG and that was the highway, which is why I think Ford generally went on into the full size truck line. My 03 F150 still gets me about 22-23 MPG
I own a 2007 2.3L. Tip for fellow owners......change the transmission fulid ASAP!!! (and get a new pan with a drain plug in it). Keep the transmission fluid changed.
My Ranger is the balls! 2000, 5-Speed, 2wd, 2.5, 120,000 miles. Gets great gas mileage, handles everything I put in the bed and the paint still looks good.
I wish the US got the Gen 2 & 3 Ranger in 4 door that everyone else got. Ford didn’t want to beef up the B pillar for the 4 door Ranger to meet US crash standards and preferred to have the SportTrac for the US.
I had a 1986 silver 4x4 ranger with a 6" -inch lift kit and 33" Boggers. I had to beef up the driveshaft, a racing company fabricated and balanced for me, and I had a high-performance clutch. This truck was my daily driver and I won championships at local mud bogs against modified class trucks. You could not kill the 1st gen and they were a breeze to work on and parts were cheap.
I miss my 97! It was the XLT with argent alloy wheels, originally with Firestone raised white letter tires. Charcoal gray, single cab, split bench, split rear window, 2.3, and 5 speed. Traded for a new 03 F150. I enjoyed that truck also, but there is something about a Ranger! I should have instead bought a second hand compact or midsize car and kept my 97 as a weekend ride.
I have a 2011 with the 4cyl . Bought it new now has 150,000 never had an issue. Did have one recall with the air bags and turn signal . But it has been a truble free truck. Love it.
I will say after inheriting a 2011 FFR that the left most driver side air condition vent doesnt kick out air well even with it open fully and it drinks gas faster than im used to but overall, its a solid ride! Being an extended cab, I need to plant some speakers in there to make it boom but thats just cosmetics. It has a great 4 way view of the road(unlike my 2011 Eclipse where I cant see anything) so that is a welcome change. I drove an S10 and S10 extreme in my youth and they have better pickup when you hit the gas but this is a smoother ride.
My mom has an '88 manual Ranger that is her daily driver. My aunt has an '08 automatic Ranger. I have a 2000 manual Mazda B4000 that needs a lot of work, but I only paid $2200 canadian for it, and once those repairs are done, it's good for a few more years.
I had a used '10 for three years. Mint, 2WD ext cab, 2.3L Auto. I have always had Japanese trucks til I bought that one. I must say thatit was the best small truck I ever drove. Probably the best fleet truck ever built. getting in and out was a bit tight because of where I had the seat set, but once seated, that thing was super comfortable on long trips. I only replaced it with a full size because I wanted a camper worthy truck. But, I do miss that Ranger. Nice ones are going for premium prices and they all now have high miles on them.
I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 Super Cab XLT 3.0L V6 5-Speed. I only bought "used" vehicles, but the 1998 Ford Ranger an exception. It was my first and last vehicle that I purchased brand new. It's been a very reliable truck with normal maintenance issues, but the gas mileage sucks. When Ford released the NEW 2021 RANGER, I had a guy compliment me on having one. I laughed and told him he was mistaken . . . what he mistook for a brand new 2021 was my 24-year-old 1998 Ford Ranger.
I've got a 1998 Ranger 2.5L Manual. Replaced the clutch around 170k just because it had never been done, wasn't having issues but knew it was old and worn. Around 200k had some fuel injector problems. No big stuff other than the occasional alternator or A/C Compressor, hoses, belts, etc. Had the door sensor issue as well.
Love the Ranger, in fact I'm about to have to finally say goodbye to my faithful little Ranger. She was my first vehicle, a 2002 xlt 4x4 off road with a 4 door cab and stepside bed in forest green. I got it in 2008 and as I write this (2020) that means I could just about put historical plates on her, sadly it's not mechanical failure from use but all the road salt and our great lakes winters that killed my baby, ultimately the frame just rusted out and what is otherwise a solid running truck is now scrap. I will always remember my beautiful little Ranger and all the fun I had camping, offroading, bashing through the snow, and basically going anywhere I could want to go with out worrying about getting stuck, I honestly can't say enough good things about the Ranger, it's not a super duty so don't expect it to pull a trailer like one but the 4.0 V6 gives it a good power to weight ratio so it's great off road, skates over most soft ground and if you do start to sink, a careful quick spin of the tires and 7/10 times it just hopps right up out of its own rutts. RIP little Ranger, I'll always miss you, and I'll shed a single tear at the first snowfall of every winter, remembering the good times we had playing in the snow.
@@stevesperry3008 Mine came to me from Michigan, had around 60k or so, clean and basically like new. Now she has about 130k, starts right up, runs like a top, shifts smooth, 4x4 kicks @$$, but the frame rusted out. Great Lakes winters man 😫, what can you do?

I recently bought a 1999 Ranger 4x4 with the 4.0l. It has 218,000 miles on it and had to swap out the leaky and poorly maintained original engine. We dropped another 4.0l with 80,000 miles. After doing some minor repairs and a sound system upgrade, my son (15 yrs) and I have turned this truck into a sweet ride. He's really proud of his future Ranger.
Got one low miles standard shift twenty six mpg with good gas worth repairs f rebuilding over time forty sixty year life span avoid a anything new
Better buy a separate motor and slowly rebuild it yourself, the main tensioners when they go out aren't able to be done in the engine bay
I have one of the last Rangers. It's Just the right size.Everything is getting too big in my opinion!
Yeah. I really liked the small size of the older Rangers. I wish they had new ones around that size with the current drive-train
I have a hobby of parking right next to brand new compact trucks and comparing sizes. I have determined my Ford ranger can fit in the Jeep gladiators glove box.

I just got my 2011 Sport 4x4. I traded my 2006 f250 for it and dont regret it one bit!
Thinking about get one myself. How have you been liking your so far man.
Have a 2010 with the 4.0 litre v6, 200k miles with no problems, just maintenance, wish I could by a new one
But I wanted the shortest cab/wheelbase and got it :)
I can attest to the 18 MPG highway mileage on 4X4 tires. On regular street all seasons it gets 19.5 or so.
I’m a Chevy guy but man these 3rd gen ford rangers look awesome

Good info. Automatic?

I’ve owned several GM, one Dodge (never again) and several Ford trucks. My 2006 Ranger 4x4 may be the best truck I ever owned!
What's wrong with the dodge? It had Cummins engine and they are the most reliable.
Yes the Cummins is the best diesel out there. And Dodge has vastly improved from my 1977 gas sucking lemon. I have a few friends who love theirs.
One of these is gonna be my first vehicle
As someone with a '99 Ranger as my first car, I'd highly advise that. They're fun little things, and the manual 5-speed Mazda Gearbox is fun
And during those high-school years? Forget about it!

I had a 99 Ford ranger that I beat black and blue for 2 years straight. Only think that finally “killed” it was when I sunk the truck over the hood (was 2wd).

Stranger Danger Lucky score with the 15’s. Only the 4x4’s came standard with them that year. Must have been a one off dealer order.
I have been driving rangers since they first came out in the 1980's. I was working in a Ford dealership at that time. As far as I am concerned, I have a extremely reliable vehicle that is second to none. I have owned 2.3, 3.0, and 4.0.
Hey bro how was the 4.0 I got an eye on one 2009 130k miles on it
My first vehicle was the 2002 long bed ranger 4cl.
I had a 1990 and 1996 Ranger. Best little truck ever made!!
The chart at 4:22 has a mistake. The second engine size should be 3.0. It lists 2.3L and 4.0L twice and does not mention the 3.0L.
ralph sampson in the charts before and after it shows the 3.0 but he didn’t show the payload at 4:22 maybe because he couldn’t find it.

I’ve had three. They are the most reliable vehicles I’ve ever owned. Great trucks and the very athletic in the snow up here in Montana.
I'm about to buy an 04. would you recommend it? 270 miles. any advice?
I have a 2010 XLT 2.3 Regular Cab 127,000 fuel pump just went out. Gonna fix it and keep driving it. Love it.
Shame on Ford for tacking away out dependable little ranger this will cost Ford and the consumer
I load the bed down with firewood, gravels, scrap metals, appliances. . .ect while pulling a loaded trailer often and it has never failed me
I still have the 98 XLT 2.5 L, manual 5 spd. Transmission. Still runs great and looks good at 290k miles. Replaced the clutch slave cylinder 4 times!
I live in Maine and have a 2004 2wd Ranger. If you have good snow tires with studs and some weight in the back driving in snow is OK.
If I did my math right I was getting 20mpg when I bought one recently.
Got the same until I fixed it
I’ve had the original, a ‘97 and now I have a ‘19. All were/are great and meet my needs perfectly.
Back in the early and late 90's, the huge things were the full-sized family vans, Bronco, F350, Blazer, Suburbans. Those were arguably the big big civilian vehicles you would see in the streets, and the sedand were HUUUUUGE
The Ranger is perfect in size, and not too big not too small
Today everything is gigantic, the Colorado, Ranger, Tacoma, Ridgeline look as big as an old 1998 F-250 give or take
The full sized pickups today make even those family vans look like shrimps
Hope they make small trucks again
Two weeks ago I did the same thing with the Mazda B4000!
2.3 runs forever
Really? Your 150 gets 7mpg more than your Rangers? That makes no sense to me.
Is it true f150 better fuel economy???
I own a 2007 2.3L. Tip for fellow owners......change the transmission fulid ASAP!!! (and get a new pan with a drain plug in it). Keep the transmission fluid changed.

I'm on my third Ranger, just bought a 2010 five speed manual 4.0l with 43k miles. I love em. Dang shame Ford stopped making them.
They have a newer ranger out now but it's not the same, too big, too expensive and poopy engine.
@@dillonh321 Yeah I agree. Can't even get a stick in them!
I got you beat I owned a1986 brand new ,1988 used , (2)2 2000’s a 2006 FX4 and now on my 6th a 2010 FX4. Best little trucks known to man
@@ugenious01 Yeah they are buddy! My 2010 is a Sport
@@dillonh321 I have a 2008 5 spd 2.3 ,4 cyl, it is a great truck and is super easy on fuel.I would not want the new Ranger with that turbo turd 4cyl!
bought a 2010 mazda b2300 two wheel, the last year for mazda trucks, awesome , not one problem at all , love it .!!
I got a 03 ranger fx4 xlt with 230k miles and still going. Love my work truck
Looking at a 03 fx4 l2 4.0 5mt 70k here soon worried about the timing issues. have you had any problems?
My 2003 ranger still runs great and has had no major issues.
I have a 2006 sport 4x4. I love it
I've owned a 2004 Edge 4.0 4X2 and now a 2011 4.0 FX4. Best vehicles I've ever owned !!
I'm about to buy an 04. would you recommend? 270 miles
My mom has an '88 manual Ranger that is her daily driver. My aunt has an '08 automatic Ranger. I have a 2000 manual Mazda B4000 that needs a lot of work, but I only paid $2200 canadian for it, and once those repairs are done, it's good for a few more years.
I still miss that era of small trucks that are actually small. I traded my Dakota for a car when I needed something better on gas and I miss it so bad
I bought a 1993 Ford Ranger splash step side brand new off the dealership floor in 1993 when I was in the military. I miss that tiny truck.
Love my ranger, 04 4.0L V6 almost 200,000 miles on it and the only thing I've ever had to replace was the thermostat
I had that’s exact some problem at 111,000 miles
That's the only thing I've had to replace on my 2011...oh and a tail light bulb.
Square body Rangers 1985 to 1992 was the best looking Rangers. loved my 2 wheel drive Twin i beam suspension was such a soft cushioned ride.
I laughed and told him he was mistaken . . . what he mistook for a brand new 2021 was my 24-year-old 1998 Ford Ranger.
had a 2003 best truck I ever owned gas mileage about 17. 18 on good day lol also I like it's small size new ones are big and expensive
I have a 2003 ranger edge . You are exactly right on the gas milage!
Got a 97 2.3l 4 cylinder 5 speed and I love it best truck I every had
I've got a 1998 Ranger 2.5L Manual. Replaced the clutch around 170k just because it had never been done, wasn't having issues but knew it was old and worn. Around 200k had some fuel injector problems. No big stuff other than the occasional alternator or A/C Compressor, hoses, belts, etc. Had the door sensor issue as well.
I have 2008 ranger XLT.. still a beast!
I have a 1999 Ranger king cab XLT 3.0 with two hundred thousand miles still runs great with a few minor repairs here and there
I had a 2003 ford ranger and it had 234000 miles before I got rid of it. It was a great cheap and reliable truck.
I have a 2002 xlt as well. I only have 165k miles on her and I live in michigan and fear that the rust will take her out as well.
@@BeansAndBullets1391 I have a 2002 XLT ..... Other than the rust.... Great trtuck...only has 120,000 original miles
@@stevesperry3008 undercoat it with your used motor oil we did that for years can run an old ranger for years that way soak the used oil to it.
