syncing the delay to the looper probably helped him. he was always tapping his foot to stay synced. most loopers have a quantize function so staying in the pocket is easier with technology aiding you than going free form without the quantization. Some hip hop samplers peeps go free form, but most them and anyone in pop music uses quantization (click tracks), which can lose some humanity if it's always in sync, but he has flow in his playing (has a little variation in some notes played vs. where he is in the beat), so it's all good.

I've been playing for years, but before that I was a bedroom DJ, then I played around with fruity loops for a couple of years, taught myself fingerstyle guitar, play a little piano & I'm getting one of those loop stations to see if I can put it all together everything I learnt through the years.
