Option selects exist in all fighting games, but for this video we will showcase some DBFZ examples! There are many many many many more possible examples than what is shown in this video, its just go to give you an idea of the meat of an option select, where you always get something advantageous to you, no matter what happens. Alright so might be some spawn news later today for MK11? A classic character guide remake is probably due up next with a new combos for S3 / Redone tips guide. Early frontrunners are either A21, Tien, or Cooler, cause honestly those are just people I am messing around with right now :-0
I've been playing fighting games for almost 10 years and option selects still fry my brain but this may have been the best explanation I've seen and finally made the lightbulb turn on.
"8:12 - Goku family of characters instant air dash defensive reflect OS" this one is sick i remember watching the video back than but i was knowledge wise not so much ahead to use it :) thank you i will use it for now on !
Thanks for the vid. Always asked me how can people react to a blocking heavy on a blockstring and do a move or follow up with a dash. Now i understand :)
It's little things like this that I like to add to my gameplay since it's just an adjustment and I don't have to radically change the way I'm playing currently, even though it's quite a minor thing it'll still make a difference when it needs to
Bro I looked a the title and went "the heck is an option select" and was worried I was missing a major part of the game, glad to see its just another name for potential followups
just fyi for anyone reading comments, the broly option select rooflemonger shows here applies to some assists as well! namely yamcha! you have to figure out the timing a little bit (things can go bad if you call yamcha *too* early), but if you press yamcha at the right time, he will be out and covering you on block, but on hit you get the cinematic and he does not come out, which you can then press him again to combo after it! (this was easier pre season 2 you could mash on yamcha like rooflemonger does with vanish here, but with the lariat change you wanna delay yamcha a little bit on combo because it puts them a bit higher and can make you uncombo)
I remember the Goku family's O/S all too well, but dang! How could I've forgotten about the 5H O/S? This would help me a lot as I get thrown off when people get hit by my OG Broly's 5H in fear of the grab as it's a frametrap in blockstrings. Also continuing on OG Broly, I made a similar O/S off his M Lariat, but with Nappa's A assist, if blocked Nappa's assist will make it safe or catch people trying to punish the move, on hit even after pressing the assist button with the same timing, it doesn't come out, so I can have it ready to combo after move hits instead! ^^
well being able to not block at the start of a jump is very important! We used to call that "chicken blocking" because it meant you never had to guess overhead/low, only air block. Its a very good thing you can't block at the start of a jump or mixups basically don't exist
The characters for whom the goku OS works.... basku yelloku bluku(the input can be done but the ki blast wont come on block) bardock blackku blugeta(corner only...do iad h >4S>5h) kid buu Ya thats it i think....ur welcome

Bardock: *Is mashing LLL*
It's hilarious how accurate this is.
Unoriginal and overused joke

Overused? Arguable.
Still relevant? Yup.
Proof? This is the most liked comment in this video.

I’m big into both 21 and cooler, looking forward to seeing one or both of those

This one in particular is not only safe but badass as well
Missing the heavy but also reflecting level 3 just like that lmao
this is so useful. thank you for taking the time to explain this. Too often the FGC assumes people are well versed with terminology and concepts.

Rooflemonger is a real PRO at explaining these games.
A game changer for me, thanks for sharing please show more.
Yes more learning stuff!
This is insane, gonna be trying this out ASAP as I always fall into the habit of superdashing after a blocked heavy.

Yeah, im seinf the video but an os is not that, an os is a imput that made your character do the best option by himself, you do nothing
@@anonimortaja Yeah, in the usual sense we think of it 4:00 is not really "an option select". The heavy attack into dash OS sure is one though.

We need more OS please!!
A time stamp in the description is wrong it says 50 minutes for the heavy attack OS
yep saw it, fixed
I like how you can dash a block at the dames time but not jump? This literally kills me all the time
