If you have a camper or RV, you can go up to Carlsbad State Beach (there are 2 of them) and camp on the beach, depending on the time of year. Sometimes, it's so impacted, that there's no spaces.
I haven't been to most of those places since the '70s. I'm not even sure Pacific Cove was protected back then. One trip down to Black's Beach was enough. And I was like, 17 at the time. Most of my surfing I did from Carlsbad, north. Warm Waters in the winter, Tourmaline, Cherry Street, Oceanside and the Pier, Old Man's. Going south, not too much. Ponto, Moonlight Beach, Swami's. Good times. Did you video this last month? A lot of people don't realize that it's overcast along the coast (and the inland valleys) for much of the day from Jan - Jun. After that, it can still be overcast with that marine layer until about mid-morning. Hey, remember that guy on the radio, like, KPRI, or KGB that used to rattle off a lot of the beaches, like IB, OB, MB, PB, SB, and whatnot? There are like, I forget, 100 or so beaches in San Diego.
Just moved here to Temecula and did that Bay Shore Bike Trail from Chula Vista to Coronado. Taking the Ferry to downtown and riding back to my car. It was amazing. I hear that all that money at the Coronado Hotel turns that Red Dot for Do not Swim to a Yellow LOL... Joking. The Coronado Hotel is FUN
I really liked Carlsbad beach. I had two buddies that I used to go shore fishing at night at pacific beach. Oceanside beach by the harbor is pretty good too. My favorite beach to go looking at women in their bikinis was Carlsbad beach. I miss San Diego.
Is Dave's Bridge still toll? You only have 2 choices to get to Coronado: drive across the Coronado Bay Bridge, or drive all the way south to Imperial Beach, through town, and up the Silver Strand, which is probably....close to 15 miles? I'm not positive. It seems like forever, even though I've ridden on my motorcycle, driven a car, and rode a bike, pretty much daily. The bridge is quicker, except in the morning with inbound traffic going on base.
I would definitely feel weird being butt naked with other Peeps 😂 I want to purchase a home here in the 619 the prices are ridiculous though I need a mentor before it's to late and the economy gets worse
Surely beaches in SD are my favorite!

No toll on the bridge. There is aways a third option.. take the ferry from downtown :)
