I remember 1985 like it was yesterday. I was living in Miami and would routinely see production crews on location filming Vice. I don't recall ever seeing the cast but the film crews were always seen in the greater Miami area filming the show. That was such a great time to be alive. We were young, healthy and full of life. Those were the days and I miss'em like crazy . . .
Were you working in the cocaine industry? Anyhow, I miss those times too. We got the Miami vibe on the other side of the world. Wearing the white disco suite with pink espadrilles, no socks.
Went to school in those years in Miami, 85-92, but best times we're 85-88, beginning 90s you could start seeing and feeling the change. Lived in South Miami The Falls area, and also in Miami Shores, N. Miami, that place was a paradise, whish I could go back to those days.
Right. I was a kid at the time. In the 90s I was known locally as the Don Johnson of Goshen, NY. But unfortunately time takes its toll and I’m just old. Was fun though.
He will always be Sonny Crockett. I know a lot of actors don't want to be type-cast from one role or character they have played but he can never out do Sonny Crockett. And that's not a bad thing if you ask me. He was a part of the most iconic cop show to ever be seen on television. No police show has EVER reached the level of Miami Vice since it went off the air.
@@rickdeckard1075 Could be, I mean it was the land of Peruvian Marching Powder. Which btw is a line stolen from DJ himself in his Sonny Crocket roll . All good Rick, in fact I know a Miami Vice cop now retired who had both of them in his office during that time. I asked if they modeled the roll after him and he just smiled. I was in college when this aired. I used to watch Dave every night. Both these guys were in their prime. Don is the total package - it’s not just his looks, he has a very sharp wit/repartee.
I was 15, just got to move into the basement! lol, never went to bed again at a normal hour. I watched this every night after Carson, 12:30 to 1:30am what a crazy hour of tv it was back then with Larry Bud Melman, Letterman in love with Terri Garr, Piscopo with the space in his teeth. Classic show in the begining.
I remember watching this like yesterday and the Madonna joke was very funny and damn Don was the King of the 80s ...Versace and the Ray Ban's ...the cat was on top of the world from 84 to 90 ...now ..a very good character actor (Django) ...great guy who deserves all the best ...Sonny was a great character !
I took a job in London for 2 years from '85 - '87. The British TV didn't appeal to me for the most part, but one channel showed some American series - - like Moonlighting, The A Team, and Miami Vice. I absolutely loved Miami Vice. The first 2 seasons were outstanding. Really nice memories when I see clips like this one.
This episode was the first David Letterman I had ever watched. This was the night my insomnia started - my Daddy had died March 28th. I was so in love with Miami Vice. I haven’t slept since June 11, 1985
Okay that is really weird with the dates. My daddy passed away when I was 10 and his birthday was March 28th and my birthday is June 11th. So sorry for your loss. I graduated in 1984 and I never once missed Miami Vice when it aired.
I saw several Don Johnson movies .... And with all certainty I can say, if not with authority, that he is one of the best actors I have ever seen. Not only for being his fan, but because I saw a "couple of movies" of all genres
I grew up in Florida during this time period. All colors of people loved him and the tv show. We would also have break dance competitions at the school playgrounds during recesses. The only other thing bigger than Don was Michael Jackson moon walking and Saturday morning cartoons.
Its so cool to see this interview.. i was too young to watch the show back then... but I became a big fan in the 90’s ... still am.. This pandemic got me to watch #miamivice from episode 1 and now I can’t stop .. im on season 3 and going 💪🏻 strong !!👏🏻😁
I just watched an episode that included a bar scene. All the patrons were having drinks and engaged in conversation with each other. It was the craziest thing I've ever seen.
@@paulh7589 As a 43 y/o man, I never thought I'd reminisce for, of all things, Miami Vice. But, enough time has passed between its creation and it "going out of style" in the 90's, that I can now see and appreciate the true genius behind it. The casting, the acting, the themes... It's just an incredibly cool, innovative, gripping, relatable show. The 80's were far from perfect. But, the country knew who it was... We knew what we stood for... what mattered... and you can see it in the themes. How far we've fallen since then.
Interesting fact: At 2:14 Don mentions that Paul Michael Glaser is directing the second season's premiere. And that was true. Filming of this 2-hour-episode (The Prodigal Son), which mainly took place in NYC, began only 8 days after this Late Night (06/19/85). Probably that's why Don Johnson was in NYC and could do this Late Night.

He's still pretty badass.
@Mark...And here I had "Elvis" was the coolest!! I guess I was wrong.
