I suggest watching saberspark, he made a much better elaboration of the situation.

Some people just don't like that it's a musical which... I don't know what they were expecting to be honest. It was advertised as such the entire 4 year wait for it to come out. Some of the controversy around it is due to the religious themes. The heaven/hell system is loosely based on the bible but it also adds a lot of its own stuff which leads to some not fun conversations. Also Twitter apparently thought it was pro-SA which is just twitter being media-illiterate as always. I swear about 90% of the world's problems would disappear if everyone just stopped using twitter. If someone thinks the show was "glorifying SA" I think they need to do some self-reflection about why they think that. Though tbh I wasn't really aware that there was any *major* controversy around it so I'm likely missing something. This is just what I have seen.
