And if they’re released it’s revenge porn on top of that. Send the ex to jail. He can hang out with American business man and possible mafia member Michael Chen.
That is a good idea but I’m guessing because her ex had proof she used to steal and rob people, that she was worried it would hurt her career. Keep in mind she was NOT a lawyer yet. It's funny the comparison with Pride & Prejudice tbh, because women who read romances like that back in the day were criticised in exactly the same way as women who read spicy romance now. With Josh, similar to Daphne in Bridgeton, he is painted as the good guy between the 4 guys when he did something unforgivable. What Josh did after Jules told the truth was way worse than Alex lying about how he felt about Ava while his uncle had kidnapped her.
I agree with this. He definitely messed up big time compared to the other guys. What he did would never be forgiven in real life, and when I was reading that story, I was disappointed that he didn't grovel as much as Alex. Literally one chapter apart and all of a sudden, they're back together like- where's the redemption? The true, heartfelt apology? The groveling? But I still love that book to pieces.

ngl what I first saw the title of this vid I thought "here we go another person who's gonna read a book they know they aren't gonna like and hate/mock the genre". I was so happy and relieved to be wrong. Your commentary was so much fun and I really appreciate your acknowledgement of misogyny and unfairness that comes wrapped with the typical "criticism" these type of books get. While I'm hardly a reader for this category, I have so many friends who enjoy these "spicy" books and from what they typically tell me; the stories are pretty unhinged and self-indulging because that's what they're meant to be. it's really nice to see a RUclipsr who reads a series like this actually having fun with it.
That’s my pet peeve too. Like I’m ashamed to say I did like these books bc of how badly received it’s been in social media. If you like these books suddenly you’re a 🌽 addict. And LISTEN, I am in no way calling these books literary masterpieces. Heck they wouldn’t even be in my top 10. BUT, they are books that I would go back to re read. Not because I want the men or anything, but I just like the stories. Kinda a shame that reading is supposed to just be something that entertains people and yet booktok and communities shame you if you like a certain book
And the worst part is that they think every single book that's on booktok is 🌽, like " seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo? Must be 🌽" " Throne of glass? Surely 🌽" it's so hard to explain it some people that the romance book aren't the only ones that make it to booktok and they just shrug it off . It's useless to argue to people who just hate with a blindfolded eye.🙄
Well romance genre and romance books that are targeted towards women have always been targeted and considered worse and silly compared to others. Though i have to say that these books weren't written well and the reviews that get because of that is criticism that's not stemming from misogyny.
I laughed so hard listening to you describe the plot. I learned a while ago, that you can`t think about these books for too long. You can`t quite enjoy them if you do. But I did so I need to add, that Alex showed up to her exhibition and bought all of her pictures. And everybody acts like this is a cute thing to do!?!?!? She did that exhibition to see if she could make it in the art world. And his anser just was: Dont worry. You don`t need talent or an indepentant job. You have a hot & rich boyfriend! ?
This may be the first time you've posted a video like this, but damn you crushed it. I think this style of presentation/editing, while a departure from the norm, really suits your particular brand of unhinged, coherent, insightful narration.
You had me laughing out loud multiple times, thank you Also, I really appreciated how poignant your comments at the end were It must take a really long time to make a video like this, so I just wanted to leave a comment, to up your engagement because I really think you deserve it thank you for being a lovely human being
the way you describe anna’s writing getting better so deeply resonates with me. recently i read an entire 8? 9? 10? book hockey romance series in a period of less than 2 weeks. what started out as cringe reading and mocking the authors terrible writing, turned into me genuinely crying for some of the characters and ending up loving the series. smutty romance just does that to you ig 😭
You want some feedback on this video? Okay, here it is... this was fantastic! Engaging, humorous, informative, thoughtful... I have zero interest in these books but thoroughly enjoyed listening to you discuss them and I can't wait to hear about other books you've read.
i thoroughly enjoyed watching you break everything down and your little jokes/quips/commentarys. i dont wanna read it myself but i do wanna know what everyones talking about. so this video was perfect. its like watching gamers play something, i can just enjoy THEM enjoying the game without having to put in the work myself. i need more of these
I can’t believe I clicked on this video not noticing it was 2 hours long until the very end because I was laughing the whole time and enjoying the heck out of this haha I’m so happy you’re back!! I love your videos so much.
1. You're absolutely correct in that Alex is a much better character in every book thats not his own. 2. LOVED this video. I have read this series before, but i wasnt searching for content specific to it. Still, your video popped up on my recommended and im so glad it did. Your recaps were hilarious and your emotional journey mirrored my own. Although, as someone very familiar with the tropes of this genre, i skipped the 2nd book and appreciated your detailed recap all the more for it
i’m going to be honest, i’ve never watched any of your videos before i was just scrolling looking for unhinged recaps of books that i’ve read cause they are SO funny. and let me tell you this is one of the funniest book recaps that i’ve ever come across. i’m so excited for the next one, and i will be sticking around for your other videos. that aren’t about books.
19:59 Fun fact, there are certain red tones that do not show up under white shirts. I was told this when shopping for underwear and couldnt believe it myself at first, too hahahahah Like some red cannot be seen through at all
"I fully fully believe that the most unrealistic part of this plot is the fact that this grown man stood up on stage in an exhibition hall full of British people and started singing a love song... and NO ONE laughed" 😂😂😂
Thank you for the summary so that I don't ever have to read this. I was vaguely curious about these books, and you've saved me such a headache haha. Excited to see what you think of ACOTAR though 💕
I haven’t sat and watched 6hours of RUclips uninterrupted in years this and the fourth wing video are incredible!! I know it’s a lot of work but you absolutely killed it, can’t wait for more (but also no pressure)
so glad you're back!! I absolutely loved this, and this video made me laugh out loud so many times lmaoo. I haven't read this series, nor do I intend to (avid fantasy, crime + classics reader over here) but I've seen SO many videos of this series on booktok and it's so unhinged and I love it haha. Glad to have you back, thoroughly enjoyed this
Thanks for reading these for me. I'm always curious about the booktok books but not really interested in the spice so now I know what happened without having to read them. So fun!
Thank you for going out of your comfort zone and making this video I thought there's no one I'm going to finish this video but it was so enjoyable and entertaining that I couldn't stop till I finished it. Proud of you ❤ we need more! 😂
10:40 my theory with names with x v k being used to indicate "bad boy" is that these letters are more common in Russian names and in the West this gives a subliminal vibe of cold/hardened/bad. I have no tangible evidence for this other than vibes.
This video gave me a good giggle, thank you! I am...no longer intrigued to read The Twisted Series unless it was for just straight up giggles. LOL Also your American accent 15/10, exceptional.
While I would never read these books and probably anything similar to them it is a very fun video AND also special thank you for talking about media literacy in the end about portrayal of toxic bad and negative stuff in the end.
I didnt expect that watching you explain these very much unhinged plots would be so entertaining😭 so please do go on with the series, im absolutely hooked!! And i agree, these books can be treated as reality shoes in that you just enjoy them for their mere insanity and how they might make you laugh, rather than idolize the behaviors within the book. Also, totally valid that you went off for as long as you did, and please dont try to limit yourself more in the future or something, because although it's quite lengthy its very enjoyable!
the way I LITERALLY just did this exact thing with 50 Shades of Grey lmaoooooo. I was telling my cousins the entire story of the three books and it took me an hour and a half. I literally feel like you're in my living room telling me this tea, I've screamed "I KNEW IT" like three times so far 😂
I LOVE THESE TYPES OF VIDEOS ✨️✨️✨️ I love books and stories, and having someone storytelling the plot to me is my ideal stimulator to accompany things in the house. Also, it's good to have you back ❤
I’m going to have to watch this in multiple parts but I love these kinds of videos. I love hearing an in depth explanation of a topic or piece of entertainment I have never watched or considered watching. I’m not into the booktok books because while I don’t mind spice, the spice often seems to have super triggering stuff mixed in, so it’s not something I’ll sit down and read. But hearing reviews and analysis of it is so interesting. I’m only 9 minutes in and it’s wildly entertaining. I’ll be coming back to watch this and I’ll try to edit in my thoughts and reactions 🫡
Grumpy sunshine is one of my favorite tropes. If you want a well-written (imo) book with that trope, I really recommend One Bossy Proposal by Nicole Snow
Oh no no no no, the book smut and smutty books started long, long ago in print. I believe the first book I happened to read of this ilk, many years ago, was from the 80's or 90's. The phrase "throbbing member" is, quite unfortunately, now permanently seared in my brain.
"Godspeed" 😅 Your videos are always amazing, but I can genuinely state that I've never enjoyed a sponsor pop so much before. Welcome back, El - we've missed you.
This was so in-depth and fun to watch, the mic and video focus issues didn't take away from how fun it was to listen to you talk about these books I previously knew nothing about 😂 I also loved your lil ending bit expressing your thoughts about how literature should be critiqued, even in broader terms of how it might affect our culture. In this particular situation I totally agree that these "spicy" books will eventually fall out of mainstream entertainment, and thus it probably won't affect our current literature much at all. I think you could make a video about that on its own (how current fads in entertainment actually affect the creation of new media) and it would be super interesting!!
Thank you so much for this 😍 I've tried to read these books but gave up after the first 20 pages or so 😅 But I was always so curious about the plot and now I finally know everything that's going on without having to actually read it 😂
Oh thing about hades as a name or location! Hades was used to describe the underworld/death because Hades was his domain so sending someone to Hades is sending them to the underworld. 😊
this entire thing was a wild ride and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. your commentary was hilarious, the reading of the excerpts had me crying in laughter, and by the end my belly hurt from laughing so much through the whole video. I can't wait to watch the other videos to come in this series, not only so I don't have to wonder what these books are about (I have zero plans on reading any of them myself, as much as I love & read the genres a lot of these are in) but so I can enjoy your brilliant commentary about them. another banger video! 💜
1. Bridget's blackmailer Wasn't her cousin, it was her secretary that wanted her to break up with rhys 2. The crown prince/princess can't marry an illegitimate child of a noble, so Bridget can't marry rhys even after they found out. 3. Rhys's father is the speaker of the Parliament. 4. Bridge's cousin isn't really her cousin, because his mother had an affair with rhys's father and If it was made public, her cousin could loose his royal status.
always been a long-format video enjoyer, so to see some premium fresh cuts from a homeslice i already loved content from was a real treat!! thank you for your sacrifice, soldier 🫡❤️
I read the books with the original book covers and i remember reading that Ivan Volkov was in love with Alex's mum but she didn't love him back and he got outcasted by the community- basically their friends and close business people- Alex confirmed his betrayal when he saw letters inside a fake circuit inside Ivan's mansion addressed to the mum??? Also Alex's original last name was Dudik, which he changed as a part of the plan, but then again is silly considering the Chens already partnered with his family and he'd recognise him anyway 😭 Andreas wasn't the one blackmailing Bridget, he secretly challenged and rooted for her to be queen since he didn't like the responsibilities that came with being king and would rather be free as a prince Bridget got information from Alex, as an "I owe you" thing from the first book- to blackmail The Speaker aka Andreas and Rhys's dad to bring up the discussion to revoke the law of the forbidden marriage thing 😭Although it kinda defeats the forbidden love trope, it sort of also doesn't. Rhys may be "royal" but he was a child out of wedlock with a non royal mother, not even living in Eldorra so I doubt he'd get a title at all. I feel like twisted hate was the SMUTTIEST out of the whole twisted series By rank I'd say 1 twisted hate 2 twisted games 3 twisted love 4 twisted lies In terms of "action" Jules being a lawyer and not working on finding dirt on Max is.. but oh well i give her credited for not exposing her criminal past I honestly do not know how to feel about Josh and Jules in terms of what Josh did because i understand his trauma from being betrayed (Jules also, not gonna brush past hers) and the last thing he'd want or expect from his love would be another one of that BUT what he did to jules, although 'consensual' THAT WAS SO WRONG She didn't know she'd be consenting to something that was a lie I get you're hurt but dude basically fed on her fears after opening up Can we not do that pls??? Break up, cool off whatever you need to do just- not that I liked all the banter but despite the chemistry idk why i just did NOT want these two to end up together The hate sex got stripped of its meaning, just turned it into a crime Stella did tell Julian they weren't dating anymore but the fact remained that Julian knew she was still in love with him His reasoning for stalking her was so dumb 💀 like seriously?? You stared at her, dreamt of her, developed a crush and you formulated all this plan.. for that?

But I did so I need to add, that Alex showed up to her exhibition and bought all of her pictures. And everybody acts like this is a cute thing to do!?!?!? She did that exhibition to see if she could make it in the art world. And his anser just was: Dont worry. You don`t need talent or an indepentant job. You have a hot & rich boyfriend! ?
exactly!!!i was so freaking confused when she didnt get mad at him for that-
This may be the first time you've posted a video like this, but damn you crushed it. I think this style of presentation/editing, while a departure from the norm, really suits your particular brand of unhinged, coherent, insightful narration.
I'm at the song and im literally cryingggggg. There is no way he sang this in an art exibition🤣
For real😭😭
"I placed in a lot of faith into tiktok algorithm to put me in the right track"
Oh no. 😱
You had me laughing out loud multiple times, thank you
Also, I really appreciated how poignant your comments at the end were
It must take a really long time to make a video like this, so I just wanted to leave a comment, to up your engagement because I really think you deserve it
thank you for being a lovely human being
this video was unhinged, 10/10 no notes
We need this to be a series, not just a duet!
I love this. Can't wait for the ACOTAR review. I also love that this is true to you and has an educational component at the end. Welcome back!
the way you describe anna’s writing getting better so deeply resonates with me. recently i read an entire 8? 9? 10? book hockey romance series in a period of less than 2 weeks. what started out as cringe reading and mocking the authors terrible writing, turned into me genuinely crying for some of the characters and ending up loving the series. smutty romance just does that to you ig 😭
What series 👀
@@c3cil3 briar u/off campus series by elle kennedy
You want some feedback on this video? Okay, here it is... this was fantastic! Engaging, humorous, informative, thoughtful... I have zero interest in these books but thoroughly enjoyed listening to you discuss them and I can't wait to hear about other books you've read.
i thoroughly enjoyed watching you break everything down and your little jokes/quips/commentarys. i dont wanna read it myself but i do wanna know what everyones talking about. so this video was perfect. its like watching gamers play something, i can just enjoy THEM enjoying the game without having to put in the work myself. i need more of these
This is quite possibly my favourite of any of your videos! So lovely to have you back ❤️
I DIDNT EXPECT A VIDEO THIS QUICKLY AND I KNEW YOU ONLY NEEDED TO EDIT ONE! thanks sm for the video!!
I can’t believe I clicked on this video not noticing it was 2 hours long until the very end because I was laughing the whole time and enjoying the heck out of this haha
I’m so happy you’re back!!
Although, as someone very familiar with the tropes of this genre, i skipped the 2nd book and appreciated your detailed recap all the more for it
i’m going to be honest, i’ve never watched any of your videos before i was just scrolling looking for unhinged recaps of books that i’ve read cause they are SO funny. and let me tell you this is one of the funniest book recaps that i’ve ever come across. i’m so excited for the next one, and i will be sticking around for your other videos. that aren’t about books.
you're such a good story teller, i had no business watching all of this, but i did because you actually made it interesting.
I absolutely love your storytell mixed with your comedic timing. I genuinely think it's a gift you have
19:59 Fun fact, there are certain red tones that do not show up under white shirts. I was told this when shopping for underwear and couldnt believe it myself at first, too hahahahah Like some red cannot be seen through at all
This was a pretty viral video on toktok
This is hysterical - particularly enjoyed the long names/titles being used every time a character pops up again after a while! 😂
"I fully fully believe that the most unrealistic part of this plot is the fact that this grown man stood up on stage in an exhibition hall full of British people and started singing a love song... and NO ONE laughed" 😂😂😂
the way you explain everything is so nice! i’ve been watching your channel for ages and you should definitely make more like this
I live for a multi-hour deep dive on something I know nothing about! Glad to have you back Ellbat!
I am BEGGING you for part 2, this was such a good evening :)
Omg, loved this! Please make this a regular series. Thought I'd get about 30mins in then save it for another day...2hrs later. So much fun!
Thank you for the summary so that I don't ever have to read this. I was vaguely curious about these books, and you've saved me such a headache haha. Excited to see what you think of ACOTAR though 💕
I love this kind of content (commented summaries of unhinged books) and am so excited to see it on your channel! ❤
SO MUCH FUN thank you for this video!!! These videos are my personal fave and you SMASHED it sister, welcome back xxxx
Glad to have you back, thoroughly enjoyed this
Why is Twisted love such an unhinged fever dream. WHAT
Thanks for reading these for me. I'm always curious about the booktok books but not really interested in the spice so now I know what happened without having to read them. So fun!
It’s honestly hilarious that head injuries are used as these big plot points but they result in a bruise and a little cut
I feel like Alex took one of those online IQ tests that inflates your IQ score and then never shut up about it
While I would never read these books and probably anything similar to them it is a very fun video AND also special thank you for talking about media literacy in the end about portrayal of toxic bad and negative stuff in the end.
Thanks for this super neat long video Ellbat!
thank you winter
the way I LITERALLY just did this exact thing with 50 Shades of Grey lmaoooooo. I was telling my cousins the entire story of the three books and it took me an hour and a half. I literally feel like you're in my living room telling me this tea, I've screamed "I KNEW IT" like three times so far 😂
Happy to see you back, extra happy about any video with a pinboard in it - I know what I'm doing for the next 2 hours!
I cannot wait for part 2... this has been amazing
Nice to see you back El!
"Godspeed" 😅
Your videos are always amazing, but I can genuinely state that I've never enjoyed a sponsor pop so much before.
Welcome back, El - we've missed you.
I loved to hear Gaias outrage at how that first Mafia child/batman guy had been tricked into ruining the wrong guys life lol
I am all ready in love with this concept. You really need to start a booktube of your own. :) So glad to see you bouncing back from your hard times.
I think you could make a video about that on its own (how current fads in entertainment actually affect the creation of new media) and it would be super interesting!!
also very excited about the acotar deep dive 💖
Thank you so much for this 😍 I've tried to read these books but gave up after the first 20 pages or so 😅 But I was always so curious about the plot and now I finally know everything that's going on without having to actually read it 😂
This was such a fun recap!!
girlie, when are we gonna get part 2 :) : )
1. Bridget's blackmailer Wasn't her cousin, it was her secretary that wanted her to break up with rhys
2. The crown prince/princess can't marry an illegitimate child of a noble, so Bridget can't marry rhys even after they found out.
3. Rhys's father is the speaker of the Parliament.
4. Bridge's cousin isn't really her cousin, because his mother had an affair with rhys's father and If it was made public, her cousin could loose his royal status.
oh my god this lore is so deep i literally forgot all of this 😭
Never in my life have I been so excited for a part 2
You have this insane talent to make everything interesting. So good to have you back. 🙂
always been a long-format video enjoyer, so to see some premium fresh cuts from a homeslice i already loved content from was a real treat!! thank you for your sacrifice, soldier 🫡❤️
Also Alex's original last name was Dudik, which he changed as a part of the plan, but then again is silly considering the Chens already partnered with his family and he'd recognise him anyway 😭
Andreas wasn't the one blackmailing Bridget, he secretly challenged and rooted for her to be queen since he didn't like the responsibilities that came with being king and would rather be free as a prince
Bridget got information from Alex, as an "I owe you" thing from the first book- to blackmail The Speaker aka Andreas and Rhys's dad to bring up the discussion to revoke the law of the forbidden marriage thing 😭Although it kinda defeats the forbidden love trope, it sort of also doesn't. Rhys may be "royal" but he was a child out of wedlock with a non royal mother, not even living in Eldorra so I doubt he'd get a title at all.
I feel like twisted hate was the SMUTTIEST out of the whole twisted series
By rank I'd say
1 twisted hate
2 twisted games
3 twisted love
4 twisted lies
In terms of "action"
Jules being a lawyer and not working on finding dirt on Max is.. but oh well i give her credited for not exposing her criminal past
I honestly do not know how to feel about Josh and Jules in terms of what Josh did because i understand his trauma from being betrayed (Jules also, not gonna brush past hers) and the last thing he'd want or expect from his love would be another one of that
BUT what he did to jules, although 'consensual' THAT WAS SO WRONG
She didn't know she'd be consenting to something that was a lie
I get you're hurt but dude basically fed on her fears after opening up
Can we not do that pls??? Break up, cool off whatever you need to do just- not that
I liked all the banter but despite the chemistry idk why i just did NOT want these two to end up together
The hate sex got stripped of its meaning, just turned it into a crime
Stella did tell Julian they weren't dating anymore but the fact remained that Julian knew she was still in love with him
His reasoning for stalking her was so dumb 💀 like seriously?? You stared at her, dreamt of her, developed a crush and you formulated all this plan.. for that?
So good to have you back ❤❤❤
WTH I literally watched an almost 2 hrs youtube video with so much interest, excitement and laughter .....for the first tym damnnnn ....@ellbat YOU ARE AMAZING GIRL LOVED THIS VIDEO FROM START TILL END ❤💌😭🥳
Thank you for putting up with this on our behalf 😔🙏🏼 no but seriously. I did not want to commit myself to the series but I was so curious, so I’m glad it at least sounds like you had some fun lol
I was so curious as well, these books are always recommended to me on Audible!
I've been struggling mentally lately and listening to your review as a podcast while playing on my phone has truly been the highlight of my day! This was funny and entertaining, and I'm glad if you are feeling well enough yourself that you are able to film edit and post. Hope things get easier on your end, and I'm looking forward to the next review!!
im surprised at how i’m all for 2 hour long deep dive into a series of books i’d never heard of and probably will never read but was kept here purely for the vibes haha please keep these types of videos coming the commentary was too good
Michael is the only realistic person in this entire book series.😭
I had no idea these books even existed but I LOVED this video, pls give us more
(P.s. the night sky animation restarting that brusquely every 2 seconds makes me crazy, it would be so pleasant if it went back and forth instead of just restarting, is it just me? Probably is)
hahahah you're not the only one that didnt like it! I will change it up for the next one :D
This was great, I don't even read and I was so entertained! I stumbled upon your channel and even though this is only my 2nd video of yours I get the since that you are a great entertainer, creator ect. You took a topic I previously had no interest in whatsoever, and got me invested in it in a way that had me laughing and (wtf)ing right along with you, well done! I'll definitley keep an eye out for more
Go back and watch some of the oldies, you won’t be disappointed😉
this was honestly so entertaining to watch, I'm really glad you're back.
KEEP GOING, the effort you put into your videos is much appreciated, thank you❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm soooo glad you talked about Chapter 46 of Twisted Hate bc I was genuinely so appalled???? reading it. I feel like everyone just skips over it when reviewing the series and it's troubling.
