I owned my 458 for about 3 years and it was no trouble at all. The best thing I did was install a good Antigravity battery. I bought their biggest amp/hour battery. I enjoyed the 458 much more than my Vipers. It got quite a bit of attention driving around, mainly from kids. Adults often times wouldn't even notice it, which was good because I really don't like attention anyways. The only reason I sold it was I decided to retire early and I didn't want the potential maintenance expense of it. My local dealer would charge over $800 for an oil change and would charge thousands to do anything. 4 grand to fix the sticky buttons is a good example. Insurance through Hagarty was about $2200 a year.
Everything in my soul wants to believe your experience can't be right (no unscheduled maintenance? No random warning lights for no reason that go away when you restart the car? Etc), but you've always been completely honest about all your other cars, so I gotta believe you. I'm glad you are loving the car, even if it makes the rest of us jealous.
Believe me it was definitely a concern before I bought it, and time will tell what the future holds, but for now I'll keep my fingers crossed the good luck continues.
A lot of these warnings arise when the battery loses charge and the car is not left on a tender. I have an Antigravity battery in mine and have never run into any warning lights or issues whatsoever. I can leave the car for a month without it being on the tender and it starts right up no problem either which is wonderful.
if you only drive 1x a month sounds right, if you daily drive and rack up 40k miles like me - thats when the warning light go off, the check engine light comes on, and the dreaded "transmission light" (speed sensors, clutch pressure sensors and a bad actuator) ... is what you get when you daily drive your car 1000 miles a month for 3y straight!
Same mine is a 2011, have had it 2 and a half years and I drive it everyday if even to the office or the gym. Have fabspeed headers, s line exhaust and an open flash tune. It burps and spits flames and at the same time drives almost as smooth as the Alpina I had Other than my gearbox issues I’ve no major issues on a 12 year old car. It’s a tank and I’m so glad I bought it rather than the 488 I could have bought No other supercar sounds like this car, Scud is the only car I’ve heard that comes close
I have an ipe titanium exhaust, with 200 cell cats and she sounds glorious. When I'm close to home I close the valves with the forza controller and its pretty quiet. Wonderful exhaust.
I have driven mine for 30,000 miles in 3 years, really put the milage on as they say, and it has not cost me anything outside of oil change once per year at main dealer. They are really mechanically sound.
Congrats on owning such a great car. I live in SJ and own a red Italia, which I love. I don't join these Ferrari clubs because they charge high membership fees and then charge even more to participate in "events" where you go on short drive to eat some overpriced meal somewhere. It's not my thing. I prefer to drive the hell out of the beast around the Santa Cruz mountains and then maybe at the end go enjoy a nice brunch at a diner up in the mountains. Have you ever been to Alice's? If you're ever in this neck of the woods and want to hit the best canyon roads, let me know. (And I just subscribed.)
Thanks! There are definitely some amazing roads to drive close to you! I drove them all the time in my Z06 and ACR Viper when I lived in Sunnyvale. Unfortunately not so much anymore now that I live in the Sierra foothills. Alice's is a great spot. I'll definitely hit you up if I make if I plan a drive out that way.
Great Collection and nice video. I bought my 458 Italia last December, no problem so far and I even tracked the car a couple of times. I think where I live I'm kinda lucky for an oil change, official dealer charges me 350$ (including filter and labor) . I recently installed an antigravity battery 60h, H6 group 48, along with a bluetooth battery tracker. I do have other fast cars, but 458 is simply brilliant, I'm also a biker, and the 458 sometimes gives me the same feeling to drive a fast bike. Sound is supreme, and driving response too. I wish anyone could at least try it once. In Italy for example they do rent it for like an hour, next to Maranello with 400/500$
