Kingdom Come: Deliverance should be on the list. A beautiful recreation of an actual historical medieval setting with some really beautiful scenery and realistic sword fights with parries, feints, etc. (not your usual button-smashing hack-and-slash fare). It got a lot of flak for being buggy when it first came out, but for the most part those issues have been dealt with. And with the DLCs you could literally spend a couple of hundred hours of gameplay (or more, if you just want to get lost in the woods!). L.A. So much so that if you're an Angelino and are familiar with some of the older L.A. landmarks, you can spot them in the game and use them as navigation aids. The odd interrogation mechanics can be a source of frustration, but it definitely deserves to be played at least once.

At the end of the day, I feel most games are better off as linear experiences rather than massive open worlds that are empty and have repetitive missions with no depth.
same bro you should also play mafia 2. its also very good
I'm glad PROTOTYPE got the recognition it deserved to be recommended in this video no matter what year it got released. Sadly, the devs didn't push far in this hidden gem of a game.
Meh didn't like it
@fedorsilva7687 no they didn't
Great List. I would potentially add:
Infamous Second Sun
Infamous 2
Infamous
Assassin's Creed 2
Fallout New Vegas - it is better received than Fallout 4
The Division 2
Sniper Elite 4
Mad Max
State of Decay 2
Fallout 4 is the best received fallout game not saying it’s the best, just from stats.
infamous second son is so underrated. It runs beautifully on the PS5 too
Fallout 4 is really bad
@@JorgeMiguel147 no it really isn’t.
Infamous is a big world but is it open world?
FFXV didn't make the list? it had flaws but also excelled in many aspects. To this day still the most beautiful openworld JRPG.
I just stopped playing after 12 hours or so. The story is totally headscratching and I got tired of grinding. It has pretty scenery. Nothing like Tsushima or RDR2 though.
My list of fave open world games ever...
*Red Dead #1
*Red Dead #2
*Witcher #3
*Oblivion ( better than Skyrim!)
*Horizon Zero Dawn
*Horizon Forbidden West
*GTA 5
*Farcry 5 and New Dawn
(I actually enjoyed ALL Farcry games except #1)
*Outer Worlds
I attempted to play Dying Light and it was just way to hard for me so I quit.. I may try again someday since my skills have since improved.
I have yet to play Death Stranding, Ghosts of Tsushima, Outer Wilds, or Days Gone yet but they are all on my list.
I am not a Spiderman fan but I keep hearing the game is great so I may give it a try but its last on my list..
In yalls opinion, would you say Spiderman would be an enjoyable game for someone who loves open world games but is not a Spiderman fan and knows nothing about Spiderman lore/universe?
Or would it be boring to me?
You should absolutely play Ghost of Tsushima director's cut! If you like fast and intense combat with good story and beautiful open world.
far cry 3 and blood dragon are the only good ones
@@Sneaky_racoon_sly ohh I forgot about Blood Dragon! yessir
FC New Dawn? eeesh. FC5 is definitely GOOD
@@Original-Juice i was super hyped for 5 but it was super boring you cant just add cars and helicopters and the rest ist just the same base clearing gameplay
To anyone on the fence about Subnautica, this game is extremely unique and impressive. I highly recommend checking out Below Zero as well
water scary
They have curved swords??!
You cannot go wrong with Subnautica and Sub Zero. I would play Subnautica first! Play alone and in the dark, lol
@@popps8556I’m fascinated with the ocean just as much as it terrifies me. The mystery is alluring. What the fffff is really down there.
I could only play this game with my bf besides me, giving me advice
To me an open world game is where you can play the game without doing any main story missions or side missions. You can just exist in the world. Some of these games you can't do that.
It's called sandbox
I played Sleeping Dogs not to long ago and it was fantastic.
Same here. Caught it for sale for like 7 or 8 bucks and was well worth it.
Underrated game
@LESLA 💋 Ha I remember that. The accent makes it even funnier.
@LESLAA nahh man, i don't eat pork
@LESLAA why don't you have a pork bun in your hand lol
Assassins creed
Horizon zero dawn 1 & 2
Ghost of Tsushima
Cyberpunk
Witcher 3
Elden ring
Gtav/ red dead
Now that's what i call a good list!
Agreed. They listed the main big hitters.
Can't wait for the Witcher 3 Next gen upgrade 🔥😍
Infamous 2!! The best of the series and top 3 best PS3 games of all time.. wish they would remake it. Needs to be on this list.
@I have no idea did it supportive on pc ?
Shadow of War might be the most underrated game ever. The immersion is 11/10.
Man Yakuza games are one of the most underrated games that never get mentioned
Think you missed Cyberpunk 2077. Night City was amazing.
Agreed!!
It's just eye candy.

couldn't agree more, its a solid list
Well Odyssey, Origins and Valhalla should have been on the list to. Some of the listed games I could easily skip but if you love rpg open worlds You are in for a treat if you haven’t been playing those Assassins games.
And Days Gone.
Midsoft games
@@trappedmind1779 maybe in part 2
not putting down your opinion, but origins world was so empty(detailed no doubt) but 70 percent of it was just sand but at least the cities were nice, odyssey was just dogshit imho, copy paste everything, repetitive gameplay, useless collectibles(too many at that too), graphics were good but it's world, in my friends words was, " As huge as a sea but as shallow as a lake." valhalla I haven't played yet.
@@adamya1639 It’s not a perfect game but not a bad one either. Considering the age of the game it’s really good. I would say still better than most games released the last 3 years.
Its a crime that you dont have Dragons Dogma on this list. One of the best games ever, and hands down the coolest magic skills of all time. The combat is sooooo nice.
For me the game was sooooo boring and lifeless. Glad there are people who enjoy it though!
This video just made my day! 🎮💥 The diversity and creativity of these open world games are mind-blowing. So grateful for this list! 🙏😍
Im surprised you didnt mention that the nearly decade old Witcher 3 recieved a massive update and remaster/overhaul in Dec 2022 its amazing

Based on Game
1. Elden Ring
2. Oblivion
3. Skyrim
4. Cyberpunk
5. Witcher 3
6. New Vegas
7. Fall out 4
Zelda botw the best open world game of all time hands down! Everything else wast just a clone like!
Days Gone and MadMax I highly enjoyed also. I really liked Death Stranding also, kept me on the edge of my seat!
Days Gone & MadMax are underrated. Farcry 2 is a masterpiece I really wish they did remastered it with better graphics. that would be epic.
I finished days gone 100% a few weeks back, it's the best game I've ever played along side Ghost of Tsushima! Kinda pissed they're not making a sequel as it's a massive missed opportunity!
@@7mm-08nateNZ me too I finished it again about a month ago. It never got the respect it deserves. I’ve seen its starting to gain some attention again on youtube. Hopefully they'll do a sequel someday.
Agreed
Mad Max should be included with this list.
You're not wrong, man! That game is unrightfully slept on. Good call.
No man’s sky is now one of my fav games ever, I can just forget about problems with a relaxing game like it
I love Marvel's spiderman 2018 and miles Morales.
I certainly would have first filled the list with every Ubisoft open world then moved onto others. I think they are just that good. It's simple as that.
Ubisoft make great open worlds, but not necessarily many truly great open world GAMES. The games within the world are often very flawed.
@@mick9707 true.
I agree!!!
I dont understand why Ubisoft gets so much hate from gamers online!
The games are obviously selling great so people DO like them as much as I do, its just crazy how much people crap on them in comments.
@@sanniwartinen3595 it’s the formulaic open world design of their games.
It’s a tedious and repetitive structure. People get frustrated that they persist with doing things that make their open world games so much worse and less unique than they could be.
Repetitive bs gameplay
*cries in still not being able to play ghost of tsushima
I really do believe that this is my favorite game that i haven't played yet. It is everything I want in a video game.
Exactly.... Even I want to play it, but God knows why it isn't out for pc until now
Excellent list. Thank you very much!
Mercenaries 1 and 2 and Just Cause are the games that in my opinion kickstarted the open world genre in a more modern setting as opposed to the traditional might and magic style setting of games like The Elder Scrolls series but the original 'open world' games have to be Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 and System Shock. I put open world in quotes because they are all set indoors, apart from a few outdoor locations in UW2.
Just Cause 3>>>>
mercs 1 and 2 were brilliant.they dont make games like them no more which is a shame
My Top 10 Open World Franchises. I still have many open world games to play, though. Next on my list is Ghost of Tsushima, but can’t comment on it yet.
1. The Elder Scrolls (Oblivion & Skyrim especially)
2. Shadow of the Colossus (some might say not open world, I disagree)
3. Dragon’s Dogma
4. Far Cry (3, Primal & 5 have been my favorites)
5. Assassins Creed (Odyssey & Black Flag)
6. The Witcher 3
7. Spider-Man
8. Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2
9. Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West
10. Infamous 1 & 2
I hated far cry 5 a lot as compared to other far cry games... so much so that i don't even remember the story now, it was so forgetful... even far cry 4 was better narrative wise
U utterly forgot ghost recon wildands ...the amazing game against sicarios and cartel ...
That game is dogshit Lmao
With the garbage SAM sites that respawn immediately after you take them out. Nope
Ain’t no way u called that a good open world game ur game taste must be horrible
U mean empty open world ubisoft cash grab simulator?

Did he just call Watchdogs 1 "underrated"? That… are you… what?
Really, no chapters? Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Please tell me this isn’t ranked in any specific order. Watch Dogs 2 is not better than rdr2, the Witcher 3, BOTW, ghosts of Tsushima, Skyrim, etc…I mean I could go on and basically rank it out of this list.
I love red dead 2 for the campaign
Great list just in my opinion San adreas, bully and mafia 2 are in top 30 too
Why is the outro the most replayed part by a longshot? 💀
It's so sad there was never a prototype 3. Such a good game imo.
You forgot Days Gone, its better than half of these games...
Alongside ghost of tsushima, they are the 2 best games I've ever played 👌🏻
How I wish they continue the Days Gone 2. It would be a banger!
Days Gone caught me by surprise. Wasn't expecting a great game, but it sucked me in for weeks!
Lol no
This was the funniest comment I’ve seen in awhile.
Did my mans say "You meticulously craft your own tents" about RDR2? What? How?
Kudos for including GTA IV. You could also add Gothic series to this list.
One of the missions in watchdogs 2 that really stand out is were you wrench gets helped hostage and you have to get his mask while shooting your way through gangs members
Never finished it. I should reinstall it.
What a beautiful video! ….. 👏🏻
I love middle earth shadow of mordor and war

1= Days Gone & Ghost of Tsushima
3. Fallout 3
4. The Hunter: Call of the Wild
5. Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005)
6= Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2
8. Witcher 3
9. Oblivion
10= Farcry 2 & 5
got and days gone above rdr2 and tw3 ? hell nah
Should have kept it one game per franchise
im so glad u put Sleeping Dogs and Prototype :)
Idc what feelings you have towards Cyberpunk 2077, you must give it a try at least once. beneath its problems (almost all fixed now) its a game with a lot of heart.
Beneath it's problems, it's just a linear FarCry game in a futuristic uninteractive city with mediocre gameplay.
@@fortnight5677 you're the only mediocre around here. C2077 it's wonderful story-driven game with memorable characters. For an emotionless potato whom doesn't get storylines, it's a linear game because you cannot jump high enough.

this is a great list well done
Well i can highly recommend you to play, rdr2, gta5, the Witcher 3, got and WD 1, WD 2 🔥
Excellent list of games, but I would say that the first Dark Souls gane is the best souls game ever made, I would even say it's better than elden ring
I would of replaced Saints Row the Third with Saints Row 2. But it was cool seeing a lot of games I played get love that's wasn't GTA and RDR (even though I love them too)
That's one formidable list of games. Just what I want!
I love horzion zero dawn and forbidden west so far forbidden west is my game of the year.

@@tyleroutland435 for a game that refuses to come under 70quid I am glad it was free on psn.

In a nutshell
AI 2/10 really dumb at times, and very easy to manipulate.
Combat 5/10 interesting at first but for old fast.
Story 8/10 started slow and boring but got good towards the end.
Originality 2/10 it's assassin's creed
Graphics 8/10 for something completely hailed I thought it was just good. Alot of lazy rendering and I was only impressed on the last fight scene. The mouth movements were awful. Assassin's creed Valhalla was way more impressive.
Retar friendly sekiro
State of Decay 2 and Days Gone are on of the BEST.
Were Infamous 1 and 2 ever on the list in previous years? It should be
Play WD2, go to Oakland, where I think it's called Elmhurst or something like that. It's the residential area with the 2 crescent streets (a-la Grove Street). The entire area is filled with gangs, you can spend hours messing around there, I've done it a lot.
Cyberpunk was amazing. So much fun.

Love list all great games but for me ghost recon wildlands is a must play also the narrative pull me in and AC origins played it twice and harder difficulty and I own over 100 games.
I agree Wildlands is amazing but personally I only found it enjoyable on the hardest difficulty with either limited or no hud and playing with my brother in coop.
As soon as I was left alone with 3 AI characters to command it just became so repetitive clearing out base after base.
The map design was absolutely fantastic though
