There should be a law in Japan that foreigners who wish to stay there for an extended period of time have to learn the native language and culture. Otherwise, I fear with Japan's declining birthrates and a possible influx of foreign migrants Japan's unique cultural identity will eventually be lost to time. The only way to prevent this is if foreigners that desire long stays are required to attend some kind of cultural program meant to preserve the country's traditions.
