    Thanks for the video. I just did this process with another vendor product that all are familiar with, and your instructions are right on and I got some really great Black Magic times. (2700+/2770+) Read/Writ ranges. I am quite happy and spent (Enclosure 99.00 + 990Pro 1TB 80 or 90.00) $190.00 plus and running on my MacBook Air M3 15". Thanks.

    Satechi makes great products and this seems to be a good solution for storage on Laptops, specially macs! Great video :D

    Are you still using this, if so how is it handling work heavy workflows? Amazon reviews are quite mixed in terms of heat and failure rates.

    • @TechFi-te3ik

      Hi Joel! I am still using it indeed. It gets warm (or hot depending on your definition), but in my use cases it never reached high temperatures (like 70-80 and more).
      Check my last video - a review of Graugear enclosure with built in fans. It’s as good as Satechi in terms of speed, smaller and temperatures are lower because of the fan!

    Fantastic video! What amount of internal storage for MacBook Pro would you recommend is the best balance between cost and functionality considering that I will be getting the same satechi/nvme external drive (2tb). Context I do light 3D rendering and video/photo editing

      Thank you!
      You could check how much of your current drive is occupied and by what? Applications like GrandPerspective can help.
      I myself have 1tb internal drive in my MacBook and it is mostly free - if your media / project files are on external storage, I would say even 512gb drive is enough.

    Question: when applying the thermal tape. Do you peel both sides of the tape and then close the lid so pure thermal paste makes contact on all sides?

    • @TechFi-te3ik

      Sorry for the late comment, but yes!

    • @usasupra23

      @@TechFi-te3ik I just found out that after you peel both sides that only 1 sidewill be sticky. sticky side goes to the SSD and smppth goes to lid. stuick it to the SSD first.

    are there portable SSDs with comparable speeds over USB4? i’d probably prefer one to enclosure

    • @TechFi-te3ik
      @TechFi-te3ik  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thats a good question!
      Sadly at this moment an enclosure is your best bet if you want usb4 speeds :(
      If you’re okay with usb 3.2 standard than there are plenty of options for around 300 bucks (4TB).

    what is temperature of this external enclosure. ? it gets crazy hot . regardless of usage. idle it's still remains hot. hot to touch

    • @TechFi-te3ik
      @TechFi-te3ik  5 месяцев назад

      Hey there.
      When you say “hot to touch” you mean you can’t hold it?
      Have you applied the thermal pad to the ssd?
      Mine gets hot if I do something intensive with it, e.g. work on a big video editing project. But its never that hot that it would burn my hands - i can always pick it up.

    • @TechFi-te3ik
      @TechFi-te3ik  5 месяцев назад

      I will try to measure the temperature and will let you know!

      Hey. thanks for response. I decided not to take a risk and use samsung external ssd t7. at least they have good firmware support. can see drive health and temperature. at least i can be sure it wont fail because of high temperature . plus the price difference is not that sensitive

    This ssd also comes with heat sink should i buy that or without heatsink

    • @TechFi-te3ik
      @TechFi-te3ik  2 месяца назад

      Without if you want to use it with the enclosure - you apply a thermopaste on it anyway.

  • @Maksitto
    @Maksitto 3 месяца назад

    But how hot it is? There is a acasis enclosure wich is popular at these needs.

      For my use-case the drive goes up to 60 degrees with enclosure hovering in its 40s. I have a temperature measurements done in the review for Graugear enclosure - ruclips.net/video/-Mlnc864Ph8/видео.htmlsi=_LTT-6ygKYjAZ4LV

    My experience, running it with a WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X (WDS200T2X0E) on a MacBook Air - M1, 2020 with Sequoia 15.0.1 is not good.
    The drive randomly disconnects from my Mac, even when I’m not actively using it, and it’s caused file corruption several times. I’ve tried troubleshooting, but the issue persists with 2 enclosures I purchased.
    To me, this makes the product unusable for any reliable storage, or for working with files directly from the drive, so, I am returning it.
    Does anyone know of any other brand with similar speeds?

      Hey there! Thanks for checking in!
      It holds quite well, I still use it almost daily.
      I did review the Graugear USB4 enclosure for NVMe a couple of months ago that comes with a built-in fan - to be honest, I think the Graugear is a better deal, but I still am using Satechi because it does its job well.

    Can you try it on Windows 11? Try transferring a 100gb dummy file to the enclosure and then back from it noting it's sustained transfer speeds

      @@TechFi-te3ik Thanks for responding. Maybe check with family and friends? TB4 ports have been pretty standard on PCs for about 2-3 years. And this enclosure is TB4/USB4.
      Would be very interesting to see your sustained performance in Windows 10/11 vs OSX.
