I remember being stationed at FT (Bruce) Lee outside Richmond, VA back in 2011 where I hung out with a Logistics officer who told me that Howard was responsible for streamlining much of the Army's transportation methods when he served as a CPT during WW II. What an amazing guy! He deserved all those complimentary martinis, a salut Howard.

LOL!!! Howard Cosell is the guy that made Nachos famous too, he'd had them in TX and liked them and decided to talk about them on Monday Night Football so he had some brought into the booth and said try these Nachos, Don and Frank, Don said, Knockos? This is from a article, can't find video of it. Cosell, a household name for football fans, sat alongside Frank Gifford and Don Meredith giving viewers the play-by-play, when a plate of nachos was brought to the broadcast room.
“Cosell was trying to take up some dead air and he says ‘They brought us this new snack-what do they call them? knock-o’s or nachos?’” recalls (Frank’s son Tony) Liberto. “He started using the word ‘nachos’ in the description of plays: ‘Did you see that run? That was a nacho run!’”
Cosell and others used the word for weeks after, allowing nachos to branch out from their Texas birthplace.

Met Dandy Don back in the 70's.... I couldn't have been more than 9 .... And he was blasted.....had his guitar, and was singing about his old dog Blue....
We were on vacation in Sante Fe, and my Mom noticed Don at a table over by the wall. We were at a Mexican Food Restaraunt, and it was later in the evening. Mom kept telling Dad "That's Don Meredith, That's Don Meredith!!"
Of course, mom asked, "Can my son get his autograph?"
The waiter was very cordial, and said that one of the reasons that people like Don ate there was because they knew that staff wouldn't allow them to be bothered. The waiter said that Don was one of the good guys, and that he'd check with Don.
Imagine my excitement and horror, as a boy, when this drunken voice bellowed, "Hell no I don't mind, bring the kid over!!" "How are you?" he asked? Looking back, he signed his name really well for someone in his condition.
Great man, Don Meredith was! Great player, announcer, and at times actor. And I'm a lifelong, diehard Steelers fan! Ah, the good old days..... Things were different, and better then......
Thanks for sharing this, I'd forgotten all about that night. I still have the menu that he signed in the office somewhere. I'll have to find it now.
