What was the rationale for the fine? Today it seems totally normal for players to eat on the sideline, especially in a preseason game. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen baseball players get handed food by training staff in the dugout and no one seems to mind.
I think the rationale was they didn't want ayers throwing up during the game which is why they didn't want people eating in the sideline as John Madden mentioned there stomachs could get upset. I thought I read somewhere that's why they got rid of smoking and eating on the sidelines back then.
