Cayenne Coupe Turbo!
With SUV Coupes, the question is always “Why does this exist?”. A similar question that was posed on the birth of an SUV made by the world’s prime sports car maker Porsche, “Why does this exist?”.
A question still asked today by many, but today I want to make the Case for why I think this Porsche SUV Coupe, is more Porsche in spirit than the estate version, and thus why the SUV Coupe makes more sense for Porsche’s brand than any other out there!
To understand where this has come from, we must first look back in the way only RBR can, with a look at the origins of the Cayenne.
We will start in 1992 when Porsche was in the verge of financial ruin, with only expensive 2 door sports cars to offer, and then the entry of radical new CEO Wendelin Wiedeking.
He was quoted as saying that Porsche must remain independent and have enough money for future developments: his most ambitious plan was to introduce the Porsche SUV.
And today we look at the 3rd gen in Coupé from. The car is based on the shared MLB platform shared with Audi, Bentley and the Urus we recently tested, but as we’ve seen with Macan vs the Q5, that sharing element means nothing to Porsche!
We explore all the changes of the new gen such as the new Tiptronic S 8 speed box, and the usual options of #Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control etc. But more crucially new additions such as rear wheel steer! Promoting Porsche CEO Oliver Blume to comment “Never before has it borrowed so much from the 911.”
This Turbo is a pure peteolhead car, powered by the 4.0 V8 Producing 540 BHP, 770 NM and a conservative 3.9 0-69!
As there is no new Cayenne diesel, we also look briefly at the E-Hybrid and even the Turbo S E Hybrid with 680BHP and 900NM of torque!
But should it exist when the estate is already here? We take a look at the design and even transform a 992 into an suv! Then push the car on the RBR test track!

Loved the actual testing, very informative and because you were seated and not standing you weren’t able to sway back and forth which was hugely distracting in the first part.
I never appreciated "coupé" on SUVs but this Cayene coupé has grown on me It is the most gorgeous in the segment Nice review

Absolutely superb video. They have done a great job on this. I wouldn’t normally think a coupe version of an SUV would work. But this does. The only thing for me. I think if they had dropped the headlights a little lower further making it more distinctive from the normal cayenne. It would look so much more aggressive. Otherwise a great great car

Lamborghini is owned by Audi, which in turn is owned by VW, whereas Porsche is owned directly by VW - I think that explains why the Urus is basically an RSQ8 with a Bull-badge, while the Cayenne Coupé is more pure Porsche in terms of both interior and exterior design.

Honestly they've done a great job with the sound, considering all the strict regulations they have to comply with. Muscular rumble at low revs and a mostly thunderous growl at higher revs 🔥
I just think it is under powered at this price point against the competition. The AMGs and Ms will have almost 100 more Hp.

Great review, very factual and detailed. The looks however are subjective. I for instance loved the Cayenne from the very first generation. It was just different than all other SUVs. It was mega on the road and very capable off road as well. The front end did in fact resemble the 911 turbo of that era.

You're right about the design, it's more 911 than just a large Porsche. Just like how the new Taycan looks and drives like a bigger 911, not a Panamera.

Hard to pick between the Q8 (and Q3 Coupe), the Urus, the Cayenne for design. Mercedes and especially BMW need to try harder to perfect their SUV coupe proportions

@5:06 What? That's just your opinion. The 2007 Cayenne model was the best looking SUV of its time. In fact, it's an iconic SUV. No wonder sales took off.
The Cayenne is a real tour de force. You cannot fault its mechanicals. The inside is lovely. It also looks good from the side view, rear 3/4's and the rear view. But that front end? Hmmm... The headlight design just does not work on this SUV. Unlike they do with other Porsches.
Biggest question is am I able to get 2 sets of golf clubs in the boot? Much easier decision if so.
