one of my favorite videos from you guys! Best Buy auto tech here work out of Oklahoma... took a tour at kicker last year and it really was a experience thanks so much for the videos keep up the good work guys!
This is my current favorite amplfier. Great dynamic headroom, low current draw, doesn't break the bank, small enough for hidden installs. Can't say enough good things about the CXA800.1 love it!
Just put the cx800.1 in my car along with the 200.4 kicker key. Even years after you made this video, kicker still is the only major company that advertises compatibility with start/stop. My Jetta sounds great!!!
Don’t think anyone dislikes their subs but just so much competition out there now! When we started this in the 80’s you had Kicker, thePunch(RF), & MTX. That was it and now so many freaking brands with magnets bigger than a car’s tire! A 10” DVC2 sub now days would slay a 15” subwoofer back in the late 80’s. 1 ohm loads now are the norm; in the late 80’s ORION Red was ONLY “cheater” amps capable of anything lower than 4 ohms running hard and steady at a 1/2 ohm “Unheard Of back then”! May be speaking out of turn but just one’s opinion from the outside looking in.#🔊❤️#Kicker
That 800.1 would be a awesome amp on my two Comp VR 12s!!! I love seeing these budget friendly amps putting out a serious amount of power! I have seen the 1200.1 and now the 800.1 cx model on the dyno. I really want to see the DX model amps on the dyno!!!
You guys at Five Star make good videos and the guys at Kicker make good products. What an experience, quite a bit of information givin in this video so thank you.
I was on the fence on this amp. I feel comfortable now buying it to power my kicker 10 at 500 rms. Great video, so much important information for someone new to this like me. Thank you
Nicely done! Now that’s how you do an amplifier dyno test. I love BigDWiz and he does a good job BUT he runs 1, 2 & 4 Ohm tests and always at 14.4(+)V but like you pointed out, that’s not what we’re putting out most times. I really appreciate you dropping the voltage down. So many cars have run-stop now and supposedly it’s going to become the law here in the next few years. Also helps for all the full-electric cars. Tesla ppl want tunes too. That aside, I like what I’m seeing from that Kicker Amp. Think I’ll need 2 for the system I’m planning for my SRT Durango.
I liked the long version but i like that you went in and did real world voltage like most everday joe public do . this amp is a beast wish i had won it but good luck to the person that won it thanks again Dean
Thank you Dean for an excellent videos. I wish we could always have the info right from product designers and engineers like this without all the hype and marketing. Who better to tell you about the product then the people who really understand it and how to apply it your application.? I hope to see more awesome videos like these!
After watching the video comparing ofc wire to CCA, I ordered all new wire to redo my amplifier. I currently have a Wal Mart amp kit containing 4awg CCA wire, I ordered 4/0 OFC from sky-high audio, and it should be here tomorrow. That's right. Not 4awg, 0/4 awg. Got enough to make 2 runs, and got solid copped inputs for the 0/4 into amp The reason for the larger size is just in case I decide to add on. Cause I always wanna add on. 😂
Nice and a neat little amp of wich is easy to hide away. I have mostly gotten out of car stereo. I always appreciated big bass, but equally much mids and Highs. Alway crossed over actively before amps. Normally started the build by stripping the car down, sound deadening and change to high output alts. I loved my bass but I never allowed it to overshadow my kids and highs. I normally used 2x 800 watt rms for mids. 4K for bass and a small 200 watt for tweets. Life turned easier when dsp turned up on the scene
Resistive loads in the SMD dyno are completely different than the dynamic load of a subwoofer. As frequency played through a subwoofer changes, so does the load the amp sees.
Yes, whats power/price difference and is it even worth it for a daily driver enjoying loud music with windows up not competing?#🔊❤️@kicker@stillwaterdesigns
I just bought this with a amp with a Kicker preloaded L7S-12 sub/box. The sub is rated at 750RMS @ 2ohm. However, I didn't have anyway to make the CX800.1 push the full 800w seeing as the connection terminals are 2ohm connecters on the box. Any advice? Will is still slap with the CX800.1 pushing it at 600-650ish at 2ohm? Is it severely underpowered to the sub?
I am a Kicker fan and have used their subs since the late 80’s with great results. Just these days so many DVC2 subs that run at 1 ohm (No Problem) like Skar or Sundown, but speaking for these brands they have 10” DVC2’s that out perform Kicker’s 12” L7 all day! I have more than one Kicker square 10” blown in spare bed room’s closet sadly. Just couldn’t hold up to today’s powerful amps (Currently using Down4Sound’s JP8) and 1ohm now seems to be the norm which was unheard of along time ago except for Orion’s Red series. Again I am a Kicker fan from way back but with anything it all boils down to how much are you willing to spend?#🔊❤️@joshuam4541
I REALLY wonder how this Kicker’s 800.1, Rockford Fosgate’s Prime (750x1), & say the Down4Sound’s JP8 800x1 (I really like; just check them out) I’m using would perform head to head? I wish I could afford to buy all 3 amps just to see with an unbiased opinion! I’ve ALWAYS used the rule of 1k watts or under in my daily driver because 1000 watts does way more than what I need in new Honda Civic with (1) Skar DDX DVC2 in factory enclosure. My music is for me not the people 3 blocks away! I do good just paying for a late model car with audio + just to be happy at the age of 50 now and I have been tinkering with all this car audio since late 80’s starting with a 89’ Honda CRX in high school with the Punch 45 and a Kicker 15” sub because back then Kicker didn’t even make amps yet; just had a superior sub in my opinion! Just thoughts……# 🔊❤️@joshuam4541
I just got one of these to run at 13.4 in my Nissan Frontier King Cab with an Solobaric L7 10" D2 @1ohm . The enclosure is being designed by Bassahaulic Productions ( Drew Jones). He's the man for enclosures .. I'm also using the Plugnplaykits.com Kicker Key amp I found on your channel.. Thank you! Oh yeah I'm also changing out the doors to the SKAR TX series 6x9 front and 6.5" rear. Anyone have any constructive criticism maybe recommendations for better component speakers?
I know it’s an old post but I’ve used Kicker Subs and door speaker/tweeters even before they were making amps in the 80’s! We had to buy Rockford Fosgate, MTX(Terminator), or HiFonics amps back then with phenomenal results! I’m 50 now still playing with car audio but have found (personal opinion) Skar to be best pound for pound subs out there for the money! Best, maybe not Sundown but for the money great results! I have a new Civic and use (1) Skar SVR 10” DVC2 in factory enclosure and Down4Sound’s JP8 literally about to push sub out the box! Both brands produce extreme results and I’m a Kicker fan b4 they even made amps still called StillWater Designs so long ago!#🔊❤️@barrettalen
Which amp is MORE effiecient and powerful than the PDXF6 4ch 150? Thats what we need to know. There are PLENTY 1 ch big hitters. We need CLEAN 4ch amps with efficiency and high clean musical power.
The new kicker amps look cheap. I like kicker always have but these new amps look cheap. I went with Rockford this time around. 600-4 for the highs and 2500-1 for the sub.
I’ve been in this audio game since the 80’s when Kicker didn’t make amps yet but had a superior sub! I used the Punch 45/150 back then with phenomenal results on (1) Kicker 15” sub in the hatch of my 89’ Honda CRX in High School. I’m 50 now & still into car audio but these days to have a new car and audio I “choose” Skar Subs with wonderful results and have nothing but great things to say about their performance! I will put my (1) Skar 10” DDX DVC2 against any Kicker anyday! Just one old guys opinion and I have owned and I have seen alot of B.S. in my time! Use what brand you want! You can’t go wrong with Kicker or Rockford Fosgate because they have been the big “2” for many decades….#🔊❤️@noretailforme

Cool another amp dyno chanel to watch dyno more amps please
Really demonstrates how much power you leave on the table with an inadequate power supply in car audio.
I run the cx300.4 (or 350.4?). Came factory with 60 amps of fusing for a "300" Watt amp
Thanks dean lean a lot from ur video u done..
I love kicker
Probably won't go into protection mode uncertified or dynamic power on the dyno
I would love to see more info like this on different amps

Test a JL HD/900/5 they say it puts out the same watts from 11 to 14.4
I want that. How much does that amp dyno cost?
It's odd that the cxa 800 performs better than the 1200 they're only 200 watts apart on the amp dyno seems to me the 1200 isn't that great of a buy
Mine does 909 watts via birth sheet
I have an old jl audio slash 500/1.. should I get this kicker amp to replace it????

Do a 1800.1 please
JUST AN OBSERVATION, AT 9.5 VOLTS, WOULD YOUR HEAD UNIT STILL FUNCTION?
I COULD ALSO SEE IT DRAINING YOUR BATTERY TO LOW?
Depends where the head unit manufacturer set their low voltage protection threshold. I know a Pioneer will shut off at that voltage.
I know this video is old but I really wish Big D and Ryan at Budget Gem would do the lower voltage real world testing its way more realistic👍🏽
