I can't find pictures of it but like 20 years ago a girl made a "man trap" for an art college project. Giant cardboard box with a large stick holding it up and written on it was "free beer" with an arrow pointing down to the opening. She was also inside wearing a bikini while lounging in a chair. Sure enough guys came by and into it. Made me think that aliens could set up an exact same obvious trap and people would fall for it since they would think it was just a funny, harmless thing.
I wanted to mention that if you leave a captive in the trap too long it can trigger an attack by like creatures/npcs like there trying to free them. Kinda a cool idea.
In my Sanctuary I put a cat cage and checked it each time I came back after an adventure. I now have like 30 of them running around, and just laugh when ever I see it because they all have the same walking path to the bowl. The all end up lining up down the main road, so they is a line of cats from one side to the other.

Thank you for continuing to make Fallout 4 tutorials. I have been playing this game since it's release, and have struggled with elements of the workshop the entire time; frustrated by walls or fences floating in midair, wires strung about in places that realistically would be fatal to settlers, junk fences that don't connect, etc. I just recently discovered your channel, and have been watching every video in the series. I am probably never going to be a master settlement builder. I just don't have the kind of patience it takes to make sure every item is aligned just so. But just some of the simpler tutorials have improved the immersive feel of the game for me, and I'm starting to get ideas for more inventive builds. This video gave me the idea for the Sunshine Tidings Brahmin Ranch. One thing I would like to add: when i have dabbled with traps in the past, I have noticed that when I would successfully trap an animal, my settlement would be attacked by that species. Like, you trapped Yogi, and Booboo is coming for revenge.

I just started FO4 and have about 30 hours into it. Found this channel while watching a video on how to get off to a good start. Between that video and these channels it explains WAY MORE than the game ever did. Awesome channel!
I honor your commitment to this game. It’s one of my all time favorites and although it’s not the “It” thing to cover you do it anyways. That is integrity at its finest. Thank you 😊
I have had this game for years, made intricate towns in every settlement (mostly using your techniques because my main Survival save has no mods) My Starlight Drive In is set up to be an entertainment destination with a casino and a fight arena. The only problem is that I could never get the large creatures to cooperate and fight each other despite using the red and blue mats. I now realize it's because I never used a Beta Wave Emitter so when I release them, they just attack anything they can and the spectators turn hostile and kill the creatures. Maybe it's time to give it another try. If I can rebuild The Castle walls using rug glitches and making entire munitions plants with wireless electricity, I should be able to figure this out. Fingers crossed. Thanks again.
Got a kind of arena at the Island with the 6 large cages. I hoped the beta wave would turn'em into pets but they keep killing the other species all the time. You have any examples of your factory? I gave up on it since dealing jet gave me enough caps to buy anything my Gunner traps are not providing.
I think the idea was to be a Beta Wave Suppressor. Probably got changed to Emitter by someone who didn't understand but had a say in changing the name.. 🤔
Dude I love your channel. I bought FO4 4 years ago. Beat it, then didn’t understand or didn’t take the time to learn settlement building. Because of your channel I got all of the DLC and have been happy as a clam for about a month now. The wifi glitch = amazing. Also rug and pillar duh. I hope you continue to put out this great content. Content idea: settlement contest by settlement. It would be interesting to see how other read the terrain and see how their brains built Rome. Ps your teaching style I admire, the skiing analogy for difficulty was genius. I started at the beginning anyway.
I sometimes use yao guai or deathclaws as settlement guards. Sadly yao guai sometimes get stuck inside settlement objects and make a really annoying buzzing sound as they vibrate. If you save before you let the yao guai (or whatever) out, you can revert to the save should a low level one comes out. That way you can get the highest level critters as guards. I'm not sure if you can get legendaries that way but I've gotten a Mythic deathclaw and many dusky yao guai.
2 more things one should know: While the beta wave emitter does make the creatures non hostile to you and the settlers, it won't make different types of creatures friendly to each other. So if there are radstags, bears and deathclaws released, they will attack and kill each other. You could try keeping them seperated but you know how npcs can spawn in anywhere after you arrive back to a settlement... Another things is that if you have any type of the non domesticated creatures held in cages, the settlement will have a bigger chance to be attacked by such creatures of factions. So for example if you have a bunch of gunner cages and don't release them for a while, expect that gunners will be attacking there. Ofc if someone does want the settlements to be attacked to farm for more loot, they could do that.
@@SkooledZone As long as the emitter is active, the domesticated animals - cats/dogs/brahmin - won't be attacked from the other types of captured creatures. Only from the humanoid ones, but those are always hostile. I remembered two more things: If you want to, you can change the type of the creature you get from the cages if you throw down a safe before releasing them. For example if you get a rabid radstag from a radstag cage you could reload and release again and then you could get like an albino or a glowing one (or any type of stag). The other thing is that there's one more type of cage! However you only have the option to build that if you have done either version of the Nuclear Option. NO is the last main story mission and faction mission for the MM/RR/BOS routes; the Institute has a different last mission (so with them you couldn't get it). You also need to do an optional objective during NO to be able to make that cage. The creature you get from that cage is also domesticated so it's always friendly.

I have never seen a bear teleport before. Now thanks to this video, I have! :D This was great. Thanks for covering the critter cages. It's a part of the game I have not explored much yet.
Yogi Bear-a Smokey T. Bear Winnie the Ghoul-eater I always thought it was called the Beta-Wave-Emitter because it emitted (and thus over-wrote) Beta-Waves - actively taking control of the creature's mind.
5:57 for the humans you catch you can use the pacify perk if you have it high enough to pacify and even give commands, and ferals can be "tamed" if you have ghoulish decked out, don't know how to tame supermutants though
@@SkooledZone No, once pacified they will stay passive, I'm not sure exactly for how long of if you have to remain within a certain distance though. And I have not maxed out the intimidation perk but it does say you can issue specific commands, maybe hostile enemies can even be used to farm etc... I'll have to investigate

if the bear was hostile it would have stayed inside the terrarium, I believe once the bear was tamed the game gave it settler teleportation power, if it was hostile it wouldn't have this ability
It probably associates with animal hierarchy as in wolves, Beta is the term for under the leader, and Alpha is the term for leader, meaning they are the Betas and you are the Alpha. You are in control
12:25 i think it was named beta wave emitter so that the animals & creatures become non-Alpha rank of their kind because being the Alpha in a group or pack means that it is the strongest. You probably don't want the released animals & creatures think that they are the alpha of the settlement and that the player & settlers are weaker than them.
Hey you made this 3 years ago I recall these DLC’s came out but I broke up with the wife and kept everything. But just started playing again and this was really informative so much I forgotten and or not experienced!!
So I just saw this video for the first time, and you might get a kick out of my arena build at the drive-in with the cages. I have 4 raider, 4 Gunner, 2 deathclaw, and 2 Yao guai cages, all within a 6x6 secondary enclosure. Each type then has its own "lock switch" so I can choose what is, or is not released. Finally, I have a master switch that when turned off, deactivates the entire defense system, closes the rolling doors, and activates a 10-second time delay. The 10-second delay uses delay-on and delay-off switches, in combination with multiple logic switches, to activate a repeating alarm during the 10 seconds, and then opens all unlocked cages at the end of the 10-second delay.
12:30 Based on what you said about Beta waves, than this is the correct name. It is transmitting a Beta wave that is in opposite phase to the animals. These opposing wave will cancel each other hence nullifying the aggressive behaviors.
One thing you could do to avoid the logical hole of having the door closed is run a wire from the cage to the door so that when the trap triggers and catches the animal, and the power to the cage shuts off, the power to the door shuts off as well, closing the door. Maybe a secondary switch running to the door could be used to reopen it or something, but just an idea :)
Be very careful when capturing in the early stages. It's entirely possible to get a bear and even a deathclaw before even going to diamond city. But... When using a captured creature in your settlement, it's buddies will come to attack you. Level 1-10 and you will get slaughtered and you won't be strong enough to eliminate your captured pet to stop the random attacks.
I once used this method to slowly farm deathclaws early on. Just built a little raised safe room with a whole mess of turrets surrounding it and 10 deathclaw cages. Always got attacked by more deathclaws while I waited for the cages to fill up, but since I was in my safe room (fast travel mat in there as well so I didn't have to run inside if I fast travelled) I got to watch as my many turrets just mowed them down.
Cages are fun! I added Raider and Gunner cages to most settlements for harvesting armor and guns. Then found out they atract more of the like, attacking the cage and freeing my subject while cuasing trouble in the settlement... Not realy working. So I started to encase the cages in concrete. As you said, logic don't applie so it worked ;) As long as you keep the power on you'll never need to re-arm or repair. Constructed cull du sac's around it with a bunch of heavy laser turets: My own weapon and armor farm, every rescue opperation turns in to a turkey shoot! (normaly six gunners come to the rescue, including 1 or more legendary) Raiders are giving only crap so I'll stick to gunnercages now. Missile turrets work as well but they'll spread the loot around and are not discriminating, causing too much friendly fire. And lasers turn some of the victems to glowing goo wich makes them easier to spot. Started making a fortune as jet dealer, now as weapons dealer too. And scrappin some to expand building limits.
Hmm, that's an interesting angle. So why use "wave" which implies brain waves? If your theory is right, they should've called it a Beta Rank Emitter. ;-)
I wonder if one can build a zoo with these cages built in some enclosures. Perhaps have some radstags and yao guai for a start. But then if they either teleport out of their enclosures, or randomly appear outside it when the settlement is exited and entered... not sure if it's possible.
After a loooooong hiatus from fallout I came back a to it like a month ago and realised how much I enjoy the settlement building. I am also on xbone and don't use any mods other than creation club (achievements). Your content is a life saver for me and makes building so much fun. Thank you for still making this content. Question i have is would you make a guide to settlement min/maxing including all available assets (dogs from far harbour etc) ? Or do you already have a video like that and I'm just to blind to see it?
Thanks Kenneth. Appreciate the kind words! As for a specific video, I mean that's pretty much my whole NMSC playlist. But here's an easy link list: SkooledZone.com/nomods
Maybe when they thought of beta waves, they were thinking about you inciting a attack instinct for when they fight your enemies that attack...? But I do agree lmao they biffed it on that name 🤣 Thanks for all the tips man. Your channel has gotta be the best one out there for fallout content 👍🏻
Beta Wave Emitter Comment: Super late! Lol doubt the creator will see this, but my inner nerd needed to interject. In physics there is a phenomenon called “Destructive Interference”. It’s where two waves of the same frequency collide and cause the waves to cancel each other out. So that said I think the idea is that it emits the waves it is in turn trying to nullify. Meaning that it would indeed need to be a Beta Wave Emitter to destroy and interfere with the Beta Waves of the animal it was trying to make docile. Now that said this is all of course science fiction conjecture about a video game. So maybe I’m a crackpot! 😂 Still a great video, and enjoyed the content and found it helpful! I hope whoever sees my comment finds it helpful and or interesting.
The first thing I thought of when I heard the beta wave emitters, I assumed it refers to electrons. By that logic alpha wave emitter would be helium nuclei. I don't know.
There is a Weather Mortar that can Clear weather when fired. You forgot to mention the Yao Guai Feed Station to keep them in a specific area. You can use the Conduit to create the support from Light -> Light and connect the stop lights to the central conduit.
Yeah, I thought about the weather mortar while editing. I actually have one set up already but it was down the hill and I totally forgot about it. Outta sight outta mind I guess, lol.
@@SkooledZone I always set mine up with a shootable target switch near a main thoroughfare, just to make it easy to change weather from a distance. Good for clearing Radstorms and the 'pea soup' fog that rolls in from time to time.
That's clever XoRandomGuyoX. In fact, having a few "wifi'd" shootable targets on rooftops around a settlement all hooked up to a single clear weather mortar would mean never having to go very far to get back to a sunny day!
So I don't know if I missed it being sad or not but do you only need a single beta wave a meter for the entirety of your settlement or do you need multiple.... I'm assuming at least for spectacle island because of the glitch it has resource wise it might need one on both sides but I don't know

It probably associates with animal hierarchy as in wolves, Beta is the term for under the leader, and Alpha is the term for leader, meaning they are the Betas and you are the Alpha. You are in control
How do I disarm the raiders and gunners after I capture them?
Let us not forget the classic bear name, Smokey T.
12:25 i think it was named beta wave emitter so that the animals & creatures become non-Alpha rank of their kind because being the Alpha in a group or pack means that it is the strongest. You probably don't want the released animals & creatures think that they are the alpha of the settlement and that the player & settlers are weaker than them.
maybe they should have called it "beta wave ommiter emmiter"
How does this guy not have more followers this video was so helpful you got my sub
Hey I really appreciate that man. Welcome aboard!
Factoid: If you use numerous animals for defense, those wild animals will be more likely to attack the settlement.
the Yao guai should be called Yogi :)
12:30 Based on what you said about Beta waves, than this is the correct name. It is transmitting a Beta wave that is in opposite phase to the animals. These opposing wave will cancel each other hence nullifying the aggressive behaviors.
That might be right. Although I think other people had a better suggestion that it meant it turns them into betas.
I've been playing this game since 2011
That’s a shame the bear didn’t stay in the viewing area that was cool idea enjoyed Skool ty 👍👍👍👍🍺😎
Or use a logic gate the cuts power to one when the other gets power, and vice versa, I think that’s the XOR logic gate
(normaly six gunners come to the rescue, including 1 or more legendary)
Raiders are giving only crap so I'll stick to gunnercages now.
Thanks for your vids man, fallout 4 is STILL great...👌
I just assumed the Beta Wave Emitter was in reference to animal ranks. It takes an aggressive Alpha animal and turns it into a Beta that serves you.
I have the goty fallout and i dont know how to use the woekshop contraptions if you could make that
Just spotted that greenhouse at 2:30 - that is absolutely genius 👌
Thanks Simon. Here's the vid for it: ruclips.net/video/q6LGkOONZuI/видео.html
Dogmeat..... Catmeat.... BEARCLAW!
thank you for the help
Any time!
Hell yea i missed seeing ur vids lol
i know this is old, but do you know what add on these things contain? because i’m not quite sure! thank you! :)
Ya yeah, bears cool. But I luv the traffic light 🚦👍🏻
Just a though. You're super creative. If you opened a "Mod Friendly" Skooled Zone I think a lot of people would be interested.
06:01. How about Intimidation Perk?
Can the creatures we capture come with us like dogmeat?
Unfortunately not. They can only wander around your settlements. Still pretty cool though to think you can have a pet Deathclaw to come home to. 😉
You can also get different dog breeds with creation club and they can be caught in the dog cages.
Hey!! You published on my birthday! :D Thanks man! :D
Happy birthday! 🎉
Maybe when they thought of beta waves, they were thinking about you inciting a attack instinct for when they fight your enemies that attack...?
But I do agree lmao they biffed it on that name 🤣
Thanks for all the tips man.
Still a great video, and enjoyed the content and found it helpful!
I hope whoever sees my comment finds it helpful and or interesting.
Good theory actually!
Keep doing what your doing I live you and fallout 4
👍
I’ve spent more time here than on my actual online school
😁👍
@Jeffrey Eick Wait, there's a Yao Guai Feed Station? Or do you need mods?
@@SkooledZone That has to be a mod item.
I have heard that there is a chance with the ghoul one that you will capture Hancock.
So I don't know if I missed it being sad or not but do you only need a single beta wave a meter for the entirety of your settlement or do you need multiple.... I'm assuming at least for spectacle island because of the glitch it has resource wise it might need one on both sides but I don't know
Hey, fallout! Thanks!
Great video, just started playing again.. trying to make a zoo for the first time haha
Thanks. I was going to try a zoo as well until I realized the creatures can spawn outside of the glass walls.
