    I’ve been nerding out to your excellent mastering ability since tracks of 2008… so nice to see the secrets and how to do it in a plugin now…. Thanks Luke 👍

      Also curious Luke… old days then.. you used to put a tracks clipper on each channel fader to clip including kick and bass?

    • @laidbackluke
      @laidbackluke  5 месяцев назад +2

      Hey I really appreciate this! 2008 was a good year, I was on top of the loudness war 😅😄 Yeah I used to throw in a little bit of clipping everywhere. But back in 2008 it was mainly about producing into my master chain always which had a compressor-eq-compressor-limiter. And so if you look closely, without the compressors, this is included in the Laidback Limiter :☺

    Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! I've been struggling to find a proper limiter for my radio shows and adverts, this is amazing and thank you for the rent to own option, it actually makes it affordable in South Africa. Keep up the good work and thank you for an awesome channel! Respect!

    Awesome! Def need to try it! Question, why put it on x2 oversampling though?

    • @DmitryPuffin
      @DmitryPuffin 6 месяцев назад +1

      Oversampling reduces clipping digital artifacts. In digital realm distortion (and clipping is a form of distortion) introduces artifacts and oversampling helps to reduce that.

    Well done Laidback Luke!! Yep it counts to have one on your name and its rights. You need to give Nicky Romero and Dada life plugins a run in the past lol... Need Laidback Style out there in the world. I just checked the preset names and I loved it. I did a remix for 2 tracks in my life with you and your mixmash team. I didnt even know too much on mastering, but just using volume levels on my headphones lol. But yep it was cool to see the preset names to apply on new tracks in any future ❤🎉

    What are your thoughts on True Peak Limiting?
    Do you care about your True Peak staying in the negative?
    Do you leave 1 or 2 dB of headroom when you upload to streaming platforms?

    • @laidbackluke
      @laidbackluke  5 месяцев назад

      Chris, this is a great question! True Peak Limiting is an important option for sure. That's why there's the x2 oversampling in there for instance, and it ties in with your other question: Why the ceiling on the limiter is at -0.3db is exactly that reason! See when you convert a .Wav or .Aiff to mp3, you'll always get added peaks. With that -0.3db, you're always good!

    What is the best preset to use on The Laidback Limiter for a Mashup?

    • @laidbackluke

      The "LBL Secret Sauce" Preset is the one to go to for everything : )

    this it work for full dj mixes as well?

    • @laidbackluke
      @laidbackluke  5 месяцев назад

      Yes it does! But don't boost too too loud (although you can), but it will for sure catch peaks better than any other single limiter out there.

  • @user-jj5cb2bz5i
    @user-jj5cb2bz5i 6 месяцев назад

    why do you start you tracks at 0db when you can dropdown to -5db or lower and work upward? just curious...

    • @N1h1L3
      @N1h1L3 6 месяцев назад

      You don't need to go lower for your peak levels and then go higher in the digital space, if using 32 bit floating point processing like most daws do. That's 1500 dB of dynamic range without clipping. The most important part is how loud do you want it to be at the end stage, and then (laidback) limiting, to prevent clipping after rendering to 16 or 24 bit (which make you loose the floating point headroom).

      @@N1h1L3 Such an expert answer, I love it! Thank you for putting your expertise in here.

    • @laidbackluke
      @laidbackluke  5 месяцев назад

      You're absolutely right! This was just an example of working with already mastered tracks for a mashup, which are 0db already. And like I showed in the video, you'll need to lower it from there on. Honestly, I actually like working with the fully mastered versions already. I've always done so these decades. Say I'd use a kick drum to layer all my other elements on, this mastered kick drum is my base to reference anything else on. Therefore the end result will sound huge already. Obviously staying away from distortion on the overall output, but this back in the loudness war days, was one of the reasons I could get my tracks out so loud. Thanks for asking this!

    I've been running a complicated plugin stack for my twitch Dj streams to achieve THE RADIO sound, I run some quick tests, and this might as well just replace my stack. There is a very high chance that I'll end up buying a lifetime license

    I don’t know why this type of limiter plug in took so long when mashups and remixes are like the creative side of DJying. There’s probably allot of unfinished projects out there because of these issues.

    • @laidbackluke
      @laidbackluke  5 месяцев назад +1

       @laidbackluke Just saw this comment and decided to share some feedback I wanted to share for a while but just didn't becuse I felt like it didn't matter enough: Your lav mic is recording in stereo, and it makes it a bit hard to listen to on headphones, especially, when your mic moves a bit, and you make a jump cut. Might be fine when listening on laptop, phone, tablet or tv speakers but with headphones and a proper speaker setup it's annoying a bit. I'd recommend monoing it, or just using the clearest channel of the two for each clip! :) I worked in broadcast for a bit, mono speech is better! Also some times it also sounds like you have a really hard gate, or AI noise reduction on it. Dialing it back a bit will make it easier to listen to.

    • @jonnyk2091
      @jonnyk2091 5 месяцев назад

      see I was going to mention this but IF you really care - you would do your due diligence to see where it's coming from, i use headphones and can hear the difference, might be something small but a producer should know how to use their equipment (especially someone that has been doing this for a long time)@@justandras.
