The secret to a great production, is a great song. The secret to a great mixdown, is a great production. The secret to a great master, is a great mixdown.
This is such a welcome down-to-earth approach. So many nowadays seem to focus on limiters and stuff just... to make it louder. While in fact, it's about conscious decisions to be made. To put emphasis on those elements, you as the producer want to make stand out!
This tutorial is so simple but HUUUUUGE in my arsenal from now on, wow! I was watching this, pausing, and going back to some of my tracks and hearing what I need to fix, and keep in mind in the future for my productions. Now that I have a framework to work around. Thank you so much, Luke!
Man wish I had this blog back in the day to visual what the first 50 pages of the LBL Forum was talking about. I feel like the first hundred pages of the Forum kept addressing this topic but as a newbie I could never in-vision it. This really gives you a visual on those pages. By the way who the hell is BLVD?
Yes. I see a lot of mixing tutorials from engineers that work with rock or pop, and their advice just doesn't work for a lot of electronic music. They tend to focus on tones of instruments or voice, and the final mix is much lower in LUFS and higher dynamic range.
More vlogs like these needed! (I also like the traveling-to-a-gig vlogs those are fun). Guys you think he does all this vlogging and editing himself? IM SO LAZY
it's actually funny how usefull this was, I can use limiters, clippers, compressors, fancy stereo enhancers, mid-side dynamic eq 'n shit, but what really makes me sweat is still the balancing. People see it as so self evident that they usually don't make any tutorials on it.
WE CAN NOT GET ENOUGH! ❤️
I'm sure you already have Friday's vid already made. But would love to hear about how Kong became a thing on Revealed with Carta, and where it all started. Awesome to see you back on Revealed!
This very helpful. My last mix and master was rubbish. I see you don't use a reference track. Is that because you just rely more on your ears for the sound? Plus more tutorials please and thanks😊
I think by 'fighting' he means one is winning...... like the kick is taking down the bass. But they shouldn't clash together tho either you heavily sidechain the bass or shorten the kick and smoothly sidechain the bass (imo)
i see lots of videos of people mixing so close to 0db but im confused because i thought you’re supposed to leave around -6db of headroom before mastering?
HI LAIDBACK LUKE THANKS FOR THE DJ TIPS ON YOUR NEXT DJ BLOG CAN U TALK ABOUT GAIN CAUSE WE ALL WANNA KNOW HOW LOUD ARE GAINS NEED TO BE WHEN MIXING A TRACK SO OT WONT B TOO LOUD THANKS
Rather disappointed m/s saturation and harmonic distortion wasn't shown in some examples except on the clipper part. I know it is more an artistic choice like poking some elements in the mix. the content itself is awesome thumbs up - would like to hear some reference to hardwell too. I guess the main thing is focusing on the kick and leveling everything around. And with volume shaping / lfo tool this is finished of really quick (even the kick isn't right, it will still poke and sound good). The clip is mainly teasing some techniques but showing the real important and driving ones.
Everyone want to be like The Prodigy😂😂😂. Ok. I use Distressor in the master channel and Limiter. Always compare with mix . This volume fit or not. Using balance in the mast channel not good idea, cuz you not hear, which sound high ,loud,or not. Actually, Different genres want different production level. This one is what you're doing. , but take some points from professionals Thx L.L Good Luck for everyone✌️💻🎛️
I one case it is actually smart. Most ppl listning to your music are also using beats or air pods etc. So no need to mix your music on the highest grade IEM or speakers when ppl will not be listning with that to hear and apreciate all the small things you master.
@@omarw007 no that's how you get a mix that only sounds good on one thing I reckon. Testing on something like beats makes sense to me but doing a majority of the mix on them I wouldn't do myself
I cannot take you seriously when you haven't seen his "Which headphone should I use"-video. There he explains which plug in he uses to be able to mix on a bunch of headphone, despite them not being high end for it.

The secret to a great mixdown, is a great production.
The secret to a great master, is a great mixdown.
What is difference between producing and mixing? lol
@@brianm2022mixing is the levels and clarity. Very low creativity. The production is the actual arrangement and making of the track.

Great tips for house music and etc… people need to understand an EDM mixdown is very genre specific.

Yes, he does the vlogging and editing himself. He has been doing it himself since the beginning.
@@HarshKapadia how do u know? It seemed like it from his comments and from some clips he showed. He seems like the techie type

I love when a dj and producer this famous like you makes video like this this. Thank you.❤
Amazing tips! Love these types of tutorials. Your new track gives me some Jewelz and Scott Sparks vibes!

Epic video Luke. Thanks for the knowledge!
dank je, goeie uitleg!
Thanks, Luke!
This is GOLD!!!!
Why do you go for the sharp slope over the rounded one while clipping?
Sharp slope (hard clipping) cuts off the tops. Rounded slope (soft clipping) cuts of and rounds the edges. This affects the way each one sounds.
More studio tips please! :)
Thank you so much for doing this! You helped me a lot in many situations
Great video 💪🏻
Love it!

I must say his new track is fireeee, I played it with my sub and got blown away. Imagine playing it in a big system 🔊🔊🔊
kick and sub need to be fighting with each other or kick and mid bass' ?

Cielo is insane
Damn the track is really good, also thank you for those tips!
True
i see lots of videos of people mixing so close to 0db but im confused because i thought you’re supposed to leave around -6db of headroom before mastering?
You can pull down the master Fader to -6DB until and unless the elements are not clipping in the mixer ;)
2:18 Love is in the air
So putting a Limiter on every track to tame the peaks? 🤔
I would suggest doing it on every bus/group in combination with a clipper
Cielo is f KING 🕺

Fr though, mixdowns just kill me especially when u get into really heavy complex genres
Interesting that you have 2 forms of the kick on alternate beats.
