I'm guessing you were disappointed by it because it isn't as intense as Afterburn, which I think is totally understandable. You prefer more intense rides, while this one has more longer, sweeping elements. I think you were expecting it to feel more forceful, and its longer layout didn't make it stand out as number one for you. Expectations and personal preference.
that sounds about right.
Then again it’s Florida and it’s the GP or like tourist in general
Oh, Hello Theme Park Crazy, nice to see you!
Theme Park Crazy But Montu’s reputation is all about the intensity.
I’m kind of disappointed of your score since I think the score you gave Montu felt like a low score for a ride really amazing like this one.
The reason why this is my 2nd favorite roller coaster is 4 words: Back Row Left Side, going through the batwing in that seat is absolutely phenomenal I don’t understand how anyone cannot like that moment
That’s also my usual seat. Granted it is also to stay away from the crowds of people going for front row, but that moment is amazing.
Same here!
That is the seat I try to get every time. I forced my friend to sit in that seat for his first ride on Montu and he was blown away. That batwing is incredible in that seat.
That was my seat
Thanks for giving the secret away...me and my kids fought over that seat and back row right side on Kumba.
The reason why this is my favorite invert is because of the feeling you get while riding it. You feel like youre flying, and you feel like youre goibg so fast with the tunnels and all. The inversions are awesome, and I feel it is better then afterburn(yes i have rode it) because it is longer and you get more of a feel. Again it is opinion.
Favorite invert hands down... 10/10 top 15 coaster!
Just rode it yesterday I prefer Alpengeist so this is my least favorite invert
Because I only rode 2 so far
I like Black Mamba (Phantasialand) and Nemesis (Alton Towers) more.
Naaa nemesis
@@zacharygiles2984 Is it because it’s the tallest invert? is that why?
I support!
“Hey Agatha, my nephew is in Florida!”
“O really, is he at Disney?”
“No. He’s at some other weird park.”
“What? There is other things down there besides Disney?”
“Yeah. And he’s riding this thing called Falcons Fury. It’s taller than Leviathan and it hangs you to the ground!”
“serIOUSLY? How did that pass inspection?”
“Well, I guess we should go ride it.”
JI M MY Incredible idea. Double thumbs up!
What runs through the head of the a moderately educated GP/uneducated Coaster Enthusiast....Well done.
Don't forget "So you're saying we should be brave" "And ride on Falcon's Fury?"
He actually had money in his pocket when he left the park! 😁
I should make a B&M invert called Vulcan one day.
Stats:
Height: 160 feet
Speed: 65 mph
Pace Keeping: 100%- No MCBRs, whips you through one element after another
Theming: The Roman god Vulcan, God of fire and smithery.
Decorations: Old and ancient Roman ruins, statues of warriors and gods, stone tunnels
Opening year: 2033
Like and comment if you dig my idea!
I’ll try and make something like that in planet coaster
Hyperblaze I like you’re coaster idea, btw will it have a b&m pre drop or none like banshee’s drop?
Zipher I was gonna type the same thing
Vincent Khammanh I want it to have a pre-drop since that builds up the hype.
Thanks for all the support!
Montu has a special place in my heart because it's my first B&M invert! Such an amazing ride!
Great video as always. Your commentary in this one really lends itself towards creating a B&M invert list video!
I love Montu. The reason so many people love this coaster is because it has the best ratio of excitement to comfort out of any inverted coaster. While you can find more exiting rides or more comfortable ones, you wont find another one that can do both so well. Combine that with the long ride time and you have a great ride on your hands.
It’s weird because I find montu really intense especially in the back left but I found afterburn not to be as intense
I love this ride to death, Busch Gardens Tampa is my home park and this ride is intense. The forces you feel at the back end of the ride when you hit that batwing are insane, plus I can't even describe how awesome the ride is after the MCBR, that final corkscrew is one of the best parts of the ride. 10/10
Well, How's Kumba too? Both of them I hear are great. Varies on opinion though, especially due to height.
Kumba is incredible (probably the best cobra roll I've ever experienced), I would say they're pretty evenly matched but I would give the edge to Kumba due to layout, intensity, and pacing.
Nice then!
matheus nery I think Kumba is overrated 3rd in the park for me
The Millennium force of B&M inverts
Lol that makes literally no sense
Thanks for the review Taylor.
The biggest problem of Montu is the pacing is slower than the smaller inverts. This isbecause it's so enormous (The fourth largest in fact, behind only Alpengeist, Banshee, and Katun), meaning its elements aren't really one after another like, say, Batman, Raptor, or Afterburn. It's really loop, turn, immelmann, zero-g, turn, batwing. As opposed to Afterburn, which is basically mini-montu, where the same inversions are hit immediately one after another. And to top that, Afterburn has no MCBR, and a stronger final helix, in addition to the flat spin, so it maintains its breakneck pacing thru the ride. In comparison, Montu has an awesome drop off the MCBR, but a slow second loop, and a slow helix, only to speed up into a trench for the last corkscrew. There's more elements, but the pacing is slowed down by the slow rise into the brake run, and the trims slow down the extra elements.
Of course, there are two kinds of enthusiasts. Ones who only care about the intensity of the individual moments and elements, and those who care about not only the elements themselves, but how they flow together as a single experience. Montu may be taller, faster, better themed and more physically forceful, but the similar yet smaller Afterburn has it beat in its perfect breakneck pacing. So the enthusiast that cares more about the elements by themselves will prefer Montu, while the enthusiast who cares more about pacing will prefer Afterburn. Most enthusiasts don't put much thought into how much they like coasters and simply enjoy them, so you'll hear Montu fans more than anything. I'm the latter, and I put more thought than I should into my rankings and my opinions, but I think that helps me really appreciate perfectly paced coasters like Afterburn.. although I still adore Montu. BGT is one of my home parks, so I'm fond of the ride. And it's not like the pacing is abysmal, it's just not good enough to make it the best in North America, and especially not the world. Looking forward especially to Black Mamba and Nemesis in that regard!!
Fidel Camuze You make a lot of good points there, and summed up I think what I was trying to say, very nicely.
+Fidel Camuze Okay. Your opinons are officially amazing, so... can I subscribe to your nonexistent channel? Also, that means you appreciate Flight Dek at CGA if you're the second type, right?
(Yes, I know that you have a channel.)
Very accurate summary of the ride! Your views on what makes a coaster exciting are interesting to read. Thanks for writing that long comment :)
Nemesis is much more intense but sometimes rougher.
Thank you for doing this review, I really appreciate it!
That was my first ever roller coaster ! It was a great ride
One of, if not the best B&M Inverts.
I do miss the alligators outside the station.
The batwing looks amazing
Not only my favorite invert but currently my #1 overall favorite coaster out of only 53 so far
This immediately became my new favorite B&M invert after I rode it a few days ago! It was more intense than I thought it would be! It was so good that I even got 6 consecutive rides in the back row towards the end of the night!
I recently watched an old VHS tape of mine called America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills Volume 2 which featured Montu when it was pretty new, and I noticed in the offride footage in that video that it looks like it was going much faster in the mid 90's compared to how it looks in this offride footage.
An awesome review for an awesome coaster!
Outstanding as always.. I love this channels honesty, and they always do it with such class while giving their well thought out honest takes, weather it is a review on parks, food, flats or coasters .... nice
Great Video!
I love the thumbnail!
This Christmas I had an amazing night ride on this, it was a train full of people, during the lift hill this girl yells out "WHEN I SAY MERRY YOU SAY CHRISTMAS" so we just chanted that out for a lot of the ride. Might sound kinda silly but it was fun in the moment cause everyone was just having a good time and spreading that holiday spirit
That's the only inverted coaster I have ridden and I am proud to declare it as the best coaster at the park
I love this ride
The season is almost here
I wasn't the biggest fan of Montu when I first rode it, but it's really grown on me since I was able to start concentrating on the elements ahead of the action that the elements provide (if that makes sense).
This is the best inverted coaster I've been on. That good old B&M roar and smoothness just gets me
I agree with your thoughts, I personally think this is the best invert. It was nice reviewing a coaster at my home park! Can’t wait till more amazing content from your channel,Taylor.Be brave and Ride on!!!
shane brown nice
Montu is the best invert in my opinion... but BG Tampa is my home park. I have rode this ride at least 150 times, so I am bias. Great review.
This one is the best, love Busch gardens Tampa
Wow, I've been to this park countless times, as I live 20 minutes away, and you're the first person I've ever heard say that Kumba is better than Montu. Both are definitely great though.
I'm looking forward to Afterburn now! I totally loved Montu. It was actually my favorite ride at the park, and I usually don't care as much for inverts. I went in not knowing about the hype, so without any expectations, I was blown away by this ride. It's in my overall top 15.
This is my personal favorite coaster ever, I’m 4”11 and people think height doesn’t matter. But it does. Like I got whipped around and on the bat wing and all the loops. This is just phenomenal. And I would give it a 9.5 just for little bumpy spots. But I respect the 8.5. Love the channel
I agree with everything you say. This is my personal favorite invert but I still was expecting more from it. I will see if this or afterburn is my #1 invert this year because last time I only went on afterburn once. I feel that this ride could have a bit more intensity to it seeing as I found the batman clones and after burn to be more forceful and whippy. As someone who has ridden 6 inverts (including 2 batman clones) this on does exceed them all because of how much larger it is than the others and it's amazing layout. I do put kumba and sheikra above this though.
This is 100% my favorite inverted but I’m a Florida boy and it was my first so it will always be the best for me
So far, Montu is my favorite B&M Invert. I've added 4 B&M inverts just this year (Afterburn, Raptor, Talon, Great Bear), and may Dueling Dragons RIP (used to be my fav at Universal). I've also ridden Batman at Six Flags St Louis.
But out of all of those, my top 3 would have to be: 1. Montu 2. Afterburn 3. Raptor.
Next year I will be adding Banshee and Alpengeist, so we'll see how my list turns out after those.
What seats did you ride in? Because if you rode in one of the "magic seats" (1-1 & 8-4) montu in those seats is very whippy & powerful. The immelman numbed my legs a bit in 1-1 so did the batwing and the zero g roll is one of my favorites I've felt.
amazing ride... love it and a good length too... Although my all time favourite invert is Nemesis... It just can't be beaten IMO
It was so good that you wanted more
Honest, but polite and accurate review! Expressing even slight disappointment is not that easy, but you did a good job sharing your thoughts about Montu ;)
This was my favorite at Busch Gardens
The coaster looks nice. Ive hadnt ridden it yet, but it looks good.
This was my first invert. I made a pretty good choice
Posted on my birthday
This is my favorite invert. Best ride for me at BGT.
Love ur vids Taylor!
Montu is my favorite invert, and coaster at BGT.
Montu is by favorite invert and I’ve ridden about 6 or 7 including Afterburn and Raptor. I do hope you got a night ride on this, because it absolutely hauls and improves the ride. It’s number 10 in my overall rankings and one of the best B&Ms I’ve been on. I don’t disagree with you because before my night ride, I was bit let down but at night I was blown away, especially in the back left seat!
Every time I ride in the back seat my ribs hurt so ride usually in the second or third seat to the last
The batwing is even more insane than usual when the trim is turned off
This roller coaster has alot to ask for! 7 inversions! I’m going to rate it once I get to go on it but I’m going with your rating based on what you said!
Favorite invert, theming and intensity as well as still having a longer layout makes it for me. I like it better than Afterburn and Banshee, but they're close behind.
My favorite invert, and easily the best in the world in my opinion.
The only inverts that look like they may be able to beat it are Katun and Pyrenees.
i rode it when it was pretty darn new and when you left the station you went over the alligator pit. what happened to that? that was awesome
Thanks taylor my thought is that it is the best but yeah.
The one time I’m gonna have to disagree here. I think it’s the best B&M invert. And that batwing element... either way, Coaster Studios is awesome :D
My favorite is banshee because the drop is incredible especially with no pre drop
I agree here. This is #2 for me (Banshee is my favorite invert of the 16 that I've ridden)
Rode it 7 times in a row it’s really fun
Seamus lol I love the ride but I can always ride it once before getting dizzy
@@jamesbarrett4539 I was real dizzy after
Nemesis (UK), Black Mamba (Germany) and Montu are the best inverts in the world. It's not just about the coaster but the whole experience for me and the theming on these plus the stations etc just put them in a league of their own.
Alpengeist #1

It's my second favourite coaster!!! My favourite is Taron!!!😁
I love Montu
If this is good for the tunnels.............. Nemesis wont disappoint. The hole seems 10x bigger when your there, you cant be disappointed with it. Best Invert, and i live half and hour away😁
Might be biased being that BGT is my home park , but Montu has always been my favorite roller coaster of any of the parks I’ve been too Six Flags over GA , Dollywood , All of the Florida Parks , I’m going to Carowinds next month though so we will see if Afterburn will take Montus spot for me personally
Give it the B&M vest restraints and you'll have a shorter version of banshee . And just as comfortable. I like that freedom and the way the vest restraints fit you. it feels like a jet pack restraint so that makes it more fun to me .
I rode this twice last week (front and then back row), and compared to Batman at SF Magic Mountain (the only other invert I’ve ridden), this was better. I thought it was more snappy, especially in the back. The theming also puts it over the top for me. Batman had no theming, except in the queue line. This was my number 2 in the park, below Iron Gwazi
This is my top B&M invert for sure. I literally felt it had a similar intensity to Intimidator 305. Until Iron Gwazi opens, Montu is definately the best steel coaster in Florida (I say Steel coaster because Mine Blower is my #1 woodie and that's honestly a tough call for me).
I have not ridden this, but im assuming its just like the other b&m inverts that have the over the shoulder restraints, and its so hard not get knocked out while riding roller coasters that have these restraints, so what i would do to improve all the b&m inverts, is give them the vest restraints, banshee is my favorite invert, and great bear because it was just so smooth, afterburn on the other hand was almost as bad as a vekoma slc, and i rode it twice and it was the same each time
Lies
I'm REALLY looking forward to your Nemesis review , it's my favourite Invert out of the 5 individual one's I've ridden (Basically the Invert's from Florida and the UK). The MCBR did trim the speed down a bit too much for me to rank Montu higher than Nemesis, but it's an easy no. 2 Invert for me. I just love that no MCBR's hinder Nemesis' pacing
XplosiveGamer105 Nemesis is garbage, having been on it over 100 times that’s just my opinion
Those two statements contradict themselves. If you think it's garbage why would you have been on it over 100 times? Is it garbage for any coaster or just B&M inverts? Did you develop that opinion over time? I just can't understand why you'd ride it over 100 times if you didn't like it.
Efan Hywel i’ve developed the opinion over time. I first rode it in 2014 after hearing great things about it for four years, and was extremely disappointed. I’ve only been on it over 100 times because i usually hang around forbidden valley until RCR opens, and just ride Nemesis and Galactica for an hour
Personally, it lived up to the massive hype I had for it. In fact, it's my favourite coaster. That was way back before I rid as many coasters so I was probably a bit stupid :P I'm going back at Easter so I'd like to see if my opinion changes.
I'd only call Nemesis overrated if I see it placing above rides such as Helix in lists of the best coasters in Europe. It is without a doubt the best the UK has to offer. I don't know where people get The Swarm from, it isn't as intense and should be so much longer with a 127 ft hight. Not saying Nemesis couldn't be longer, but Swarm is too tall and too fast for it's short ride time, especially when rides with less height such as Raptor at Gardaland give longer rides
Oh RIP the people expecting Montu to get a near perfect 10. Regardless, your reasoning is well enough to back it up. Unfortunately, I can't entirely apply that well, for despite riding it, I wasn't all that interested into roller coasters at the time, and only screamed all the way through. I haven't ridden a coaster in years, and now that I'm interested, its on my bucket list to revisit what would've been my home park, Busch Gardens Tampa. Despite all of this, Montu is still a well acclaimed, and presumably smooth ride.
How would you compare this to Alpie though?
I totally agree with you I think that this ride left me sort of underwhelmed. I like balls to wall crazy so naturally Afterburn is my fav
I was supposed to get to universal and this busch gardens but my moms friend who we were going to stay with didn’t by a house down here and I was 😞
I have some differing opinions on this topic. While Afterburn (my first B&M invert actually) literally feels like your face is going to be ripped off, it just ends right after the amazing first half (or three-quarters of the ride). Every time I get off of Afterburn, I love the ride, but I also come off saying, "That's it?" It's just way too short to be called the best B&M invert. The whole "ripping your face off" type of feeling is also on Montu and Raptor, but those two rides are actually complete rides and don't end right when it's getting good. I get off of those two coasters with pure shock and disbelief over what just happened. If I had to choose what my favorite B&M invert is, Montu or Raptor, I have to choose Montu. It has a perfect sequence of elements and is VERY intense going through each element. The MCBR now doesn't slow down the second half much at all. I went into Montu thinking the MCBR would destroy the second half, but it didn't really affect it. The trench factor really ramps up the excitement. Fight me but Montu is definitely the best coaster in the state of Florida. Even though I prefer Montu, Raptor will always hold a special place in my heart, forever being one of my top coasters. Cedar Point is my home park, so I get to ride Raptor all the time. I personally think Raptor is really intense, smooth, and keeps its speed throughout the entire ride, not even slowing down a bit on the MCBR. I think Raptor is better than all of Cedar Point's coasters except Maverick (and most likely Steel Vengeance). Fight me and my unorthodox opinions, but here are my top B&M inverts:
1. Montu (amazing roller coaster; very intense with perfect pacing; my personal #3 coaster)
2. Raptor (still can't believe Montu is my new favorite B&M invert and this was actually beaten; my personal #6)
3. Afterburn (too short of a ride experience; my personal #11)
4. Alpengeist (way too much hate for this ride; love the "journey" you go on with the terrain; my personal #12)
5. Dueling Dragons: Ice (R.I.P.; my personal #14)
6. Dueling Dragons: Fire (R.I.P. again; my personal #15)
7. Banshee (overrated; not intense enough and too spread out to be considered a top-notch B&M invert; my personal #19)
As you can see I love B&M inverts and think they are one of the best coaster models ever built.
I like it the best of the inverts I've ridden, but I've only ridden four B&M and an SLC for inverts
ride Alpengeist its not glossy but not rough its like a 9 for smoothness an 8 for intensity a 4 for the theme overall a 9.89
I rode Mako at Sea World & hulk at Island of Adventures, my question is: can I be able to ride this coaster or eventually Kumba?? The intesity do not compare? I really want to go on both!!!! 😍
When I rode it a few years ago, it made me feel sick. However that was then.
Btw, I prefer Raptor
I've never been on this, but it looks like the complete package. I'm making this out to be the best of the best of B&M Inverts.
Did u ride this in the back row. Because back is really intense.
I’ve ridden the bear at Hersey park Batman at great adventure dueling dragons at islands of adventure and montu and montu is by far my favorite inverted B&M coaster I’ve ridden.
Best invert!
Is Afterburn still your all time favorite invert?
that I've ridden - yes
will you be re-doing any reviews? for example X2 since u rode it again and liked it, or the Hulk because of the refurbishment
In my opinion my favorite inverted b&m is banshee
The park likes to hype up Shikra but Montu is my favorite!
Have you ever been to Lego Land (or Cypress Gardens as it was called when I was really little). It's right in my hometown! There's 4 credits there.
I could sort the B&M's inverted in two groups, the compact ones like Batman (SFMM and SFGA) Nemesis (AT,uk), Nemesis Inferno (TP,uk), and the big ones like Raptor (CP), Montu (BG) Sillver Bullet (KBF) and can safely assume the compacts are much more intense, strong whip effect and fast paced than the bigger ones.I've rode all of them and from the first group I'll choose Nemesis (AT) just for the theeming (otherwise Batman gets the crown) from the second, Montu (BG).
MONTU IS THE BEST COASTER EVER
Banshee is my favorite
Dueling Dragons was my favorite inverted coaster, but the length of this ride makes up for it.
I'm surprised that you said the elements weren't that snappy and aggressive, despite being built in 1996 as one of the old-school B&M coasters, along with Kumba at the same park. The inversions definitely look fairly snappy
I adore this coaster. Afterburn is great, too. The main difference to me is that Montu doesn't pack the elements as tightly together as a coaster like Afterburn. In that sense it isn't as intense. But for me, I think this makes Montu more just plain fun. It's a coaster I could ride over and over on the same day. Afterburn my head can only handle once or twice a visit. They are both great rides rides. Just depends on what you like.
People may say it's the best invert. But I'm very happy that he is coming to the UK to ride Nemesis. The actual best invert
You pull some negative gs on the corkscrew a little bit too my personal favorite element on the ride
This is my 3rd favourite invert, nemesis being 2nd and black mamba being 1st
I’ve also done raptor, 2 Batman’s, nem inferno, dragon challenge both sides and silver bullet
Its in my top 5, but I can see why some wouldn’t like it as much. My first time on this I got a pretty bad ride, but after I ride it a few times in different seats, I couldn’t get enough (but Kumba is still better imo)
Hey Taylor, which do you prefer, Montu or Kumba? I personally prefer Kumba but what do you think?
Cspettit24 he likes kumba better
