In this case, NASCAR stated that the leader spun his tires and failed to accelerate which is why Carl beat him to the line which was also in the rule at the time. A more drastic example would be as the leader hits the gas he spins out, the guy in the inside isn’t expected to stop as he is spinning and stay behind him.
Hey there, I mainly watch Daily Downforce guys but came across you and really enjoy your vids. Going through old vids now. I'm disabled from a life at Joe Gibbs so I watch a lot of RUclips. This is only a suggestion but without an ending segment of some kind, my vids go directly into the next vid that I may not be ready to watch. If we have time to exit out, it would help immensely. I'm do not want to sound like I'm criticizing, just an observance. I believe your channel is good enough and in some cases better to be in the Out of the Groove/Daily Downforce crew like NFJJ just joined. Keep up the good work.
I didn't remember Carson Hocevar's first win being dirty, and upon watching it again I still don't think it was. Sanchez was already wrecking before Hocevar even got to him, and the contact at the end just finished him off. Carl Edwards was penalized for a restart violation in one of the Richmond races the year before, iirc, similar to how Denny Hamlin was penalized for going below the yellow line and also got away with it at a later date in instances both mentioned in this video. You wonder if NASCAR is reluctant to hand out certain controversial penalties to the same driver more than once. Make-up calls, if you will. It sure is weird to see a BMW 7 Series as a NASCAR pace car. It's a good thing that happened on a road course, or else a certain subset of fans who are currently throwing out all their Richard Petty memorabilia over the switch to Toyota (true story) might've seen that. Speaking of foreign, that restart by Stewart would have been by the book in F1 and not controversial at all. Not every racing series is so hell-bent on bunching everyone up of restarts to breed more yellows. Not saying one way is better, because I'll admit F1 safety car restarts are quite boring most of the time, just an interesting observation of the difference between the two.
Even though, I don't think it was intentional. I personally believe that Vickers was trying to stay behind Jimmy, on his bumper, miscalculated and accidentally hooked him.
Richard Brickhouse is listed as the winner of the inaugural Talladega 500 in 1969, however, it is believed by some that Jim Vandiver actually won and Brickhouse was made the winner because Chrysler influenced Bill France, Sr. into creating a scoring error so that people would buy the Dodge Daytona (the car Brickhouse drove in the race).
This Is Just My Personal Opinion But When Hocevar Got Behind Sanchez He Was Already Out Of Control And It's The Final Lap There Was No Lifting, Let's Say Hocevar Lifted And Sanchez Gathered It Up Hocevar Would've Gotten Real Aero Tight In Turn One Thanks To Trucks All Around Him And Would've Lost Time And Would've Ended Up Probably Finishings 5th,I Say It Was Well Worth It And For A First Truck Win That Victory Will Forever Be One Of Hocevar's Favourite Moments And How It Just Happened Out Of Nowhere,The Doors Opened For Him
Hocevar's first win wasn't that hard to call IMO Sanchez was sideways and barely saved it but lost a lot of speed. Hocevar kept in the gas and the truck just ended up on his nose. Not intentional just a racing deal. Not really much to discuss there. 1 to go you don't back down from 3rd with a shot to win.
1:12 I mean menard went first. How can they penalize Carl for menard spinning the tires? You can clearly see menard go first. Pretty sure that was also part of the rules.
@@seanmoulder747 idk many calls were made to protect the guy in 2nd. If that was the rule then what’s the point of a restart zone? The leader can just slow down purposely and screw multiple guys. That’s why many drivers protested every single time specifically for that reason. Which is why that rule didn’t come into play very often
Maybe you should take a second look at the Hocevar-Sanchez incident, because almost everyone here is saying that you're wrong. There was no intentional wrecking or dirtiness going on.
My favorite part of Denny’s win at Talladega was the only call they made. I remember being like “Denny is definitely getting black flagged.” And then a minute later the booth said, “NASCAR says Chase passed below the yellow line.” Hysterical. I guess they weren’t watching the finish. They were focused on the battle for 8th?
How no driver or team owner never protested Denny's move is stupid. And NASCAR is blind. Favoritism was heavily played towards Denny. The real winner is Matty D
Feel like that particular hocevar incident wasnt really intentional tho others hes had were quite reckless, and i definitely dont think vickers intentionally hooked jimmie into jr, similar to mcdowell winning the 500 few years ago, just a product of that type of racing.
The brian vickers one was jimmies fault all the way. Jimmie wiggled right in front of brian losing momentum just as brian was coming down to push jimmie.
The first one isn't really Hocevar's fault bc Sanchez was sideways by the time he got to him and also the Talladega race still makes me mad bc Matt was robbed and I believe he's the real winner of the race you can argue yeah he did force Byron so its fair but it would have also been fair if they penalized Hamlin too
Let’s talk about chase Elliott going way below the yellow line to pass a bunch of cars at Talladega in 2020 and nascar let him keep his position. He was not forced down there or anything just like Hamlin and Hamlin also got to keep that win too. So stupid
Denny has a habit of going down below the double yellow !!
Yeah lol
@@MMCS07Clint Bowyer didn’t spin on purpose! He blew a tire!
Carson didn’t wreck his opponents, they got together and slid down in from of Carson and they made contact.
Yeah, im not sure how he "wrecked his competition" when they were literally wrecking before he was even there lol
0:43 For that one there was nowhere for him to go when the leaders got loose.
True
the hocevar one, sanchez was just loose because zane doored sanchez. Hocevar could've lifted, but it was all happening so fast.
Seeing the white, no lifting is gonna happen. This ain’t on him. I agree wit ya
1:07 They let Carl get away with it the second time but not a year prior in the Spring race. Nascar being SO consistent as usual...
Yup
@@MMCS07W Carl Edwards he is an actual legend

if Hamlin didn’t get penalized he would have 5 clash wins
added to his wins in 06 14 16 and 24

There was absolutely nothing controversial about Hocevar's first win.
Winner's don't exists, there's only those that ride and those that quit.

I wonder why weren't there any controversial finishes before 2000. Or was it just an overlook?
NASCAR not throwing the caution for Matty D is stupid. They’ll throw it for stuff things like dega 15 but whatever.
Yep
Anything that is controversial is it has something to do with Jr losing

Hocevar’s win wasn’t controversial, he got into Sanchez after Sanchez and the 38 got together.
If the vickers move was done by jr no one would say a thing about it cuz hes an Earnhardt, it will be celebrated as a good move
