    The 1st time I voted, I voted for Ronald Reagan. I remember that election vary well.
    The Republican establishment didn't want Reagan to win. Bush was their man.
    One Rep. Senator said he would support Carter if Reagan won the nomination.
    Thay gave Reagan the full treatment. Extremist, etc. Reagan compromised by picking Bush as VP. Still, they had Republican turned Ind. Anderson run as
    3rd party.
    Now, they all claim to be Reagan Republicans. Where did they stand in 1979?

      We need a candidate that embodies Reagan's moral fiber and principles, but, instead of trying to be Reagan, he/she will dedicate himself/herself to being the best individual that they can be, regardless of who they happen to be.

      Dr. Ben Carson is in the same mold as Ronald Reagan. I supported and worked very hard to elect Reagan in Jonesboro, Arkansas and I will support 36 years later Dr. Ben Carson.

      Great sentiment, my friend! That is why I wrote the book, "Resurrecting Reagan" by Judge Hal Moroz.

    I live in Hungary, a former communist country. Before 1989, the fall of communism, the Communist Party always told us that Reagan was a villain, a warmonger and a criminal. Being a little child, I believed the communist lies . But now , as an adult, I realized that President Reagan was one of the most brilliant statesmen of the world, someone who liberated Eastern Europe from communism without firing a single bullet. Eastern Europe will never forget you, President Reagan!!

    Same problems, same approach with Carter 2.0. We so need a man like Reagan with clear vision and clarity of purpose to step up and lead this nation back to greatness. RIP Ronoldus Magnus.

    "...to once again see honor placed above political expediency;
    to see government once again the protector of our liberties,
    not the distributor of gifts and privilege. Government should uphold
    and not undermine those institutions which are custodians of the very values
    upon which civilization is founded: religion, education, and, above all, family.
    Government cannot be clergyman, teacher, and parent;
    it is our servant, beholden to us."
    Today, we must all be like Ronald Reagan, and fight.

    @RisingStarOfKorea It truly takes hearing this from someone outside the box per say. Thank you for your kind words regarding President Reagan. He wasn't perfect. However, I will take someone half the person he was. I sure hope that we get someone with similar qualities soon. If not, I am not sure America will be around for long. Once again, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ronald Reagan is a brilliant model as a leader, and somebody who inspired hope and good feeling in many people. The Left have never have come close recently with matching this.
    In scrutinizing Ronald Reagan's ideas in practice however, it's hard to see him really as a libertarian. He was correct on the 10th Amendment - States' Rights, and New Federalism was an improvement so far as constitutionality went.
    Ron Paul, then a Congressman, did point out even at the time, that Congress was very hypocritical when they blasted President Carter in 1977 for a $38 billion deceit, but in 1981 praised Reagan for passing a $45 billion deficit in the budget, and thought it was a big improvement.
    Paul perhaps is the continuation of the Reagan course - but both Bush's, Dole, McCain and Romney have been huge diversions off of the path really - not really that Reagan himself stayed on this path all too strictly either.

    Love this man....I was 3 when he was elected but spent my childhood adoring him and how happy he made my parents! It wasn't until I was around 12-13 years old that I began to truly understand conservatism vs. liberalism and Reagan became my own personal hero!

  • @broadstreet21

    I wondered why Reagan didn't announce his candidacy before a large crowd. Then I read Obama's own memoir, where he said these initial announcements were small by design to allow candidates room to work out their kinks. When he gave his campaign announcement before a big crowd, he said he had no room for error, one gaffe, one wrong move, and his campaign could have ended before it began at that speech.

    The Last Founding Father at his BEST!
    This speech reads like a very manifesto for the Conservative Movement. Just tweak all the references to the Soviet Movement (maybe with some references to terrorism), and you get a rallying call for the Tea Pary and the 9/12 Project!

    Yeah well the establishment was glad once he was gone. They didn't like that type of talk.
    They love the power and control over people's lives. I bet they felt the same way after Coolidge. I know several were upset when Reagan changed Jefferson's picture for Coolidge.
    To bad we can't elect someone like either Reagan or Coolidge.

    Business has to pass its tax burden on to the customer as part of the cost of doing business. You and I pay the taxes imposed on business every time we go to the store. Only people pay taxes and it is political demagoguery or economic illiteracy to try and tell us otherwise.

    Please don't let it be true that we get a great president only once, maybe twice, in a country's history. We need a Ronald Reagan today, in 2016, so much more so than we did in 1980. Is Barack Obama, the very worst president we could ever have, really destined to be replaced by not a Reagan, but a Trump, a Clinton, or a Sanders? God help us.....
