      Haha. Yeah. Which is why we also have a video in how to mend / darn dress socks. If you properly launder them, always hang dry, and mend when holes develop in the toes, and a pair of our Sovereign Grade socks can last years with regular use.

    Greetings from Hua An. Fabulous video, practical and useful! Last week we learned so much from your tie class Kirby! This week you are adding knowledge to our sock game. This one is particular useful since all I have are my routine colorful socks. Thank you again Kirby, for covering so many different menswear topics, much appreciation Sir.

    Even though they are not popular in the U.S.
    I recommend sheer socks ( I get them from Spain)
    They look like women's pantyhose, but they feel Great with dress shoes.

    Put a sock in it, Kirby. (sorry couldnt resist that). rock on Mister Allison. Only time we have seen casual was during your office move. How about some features on casual clothes too? I note folks menitoning price, but people you get waht you pay for, and remember as one who sold expensive stuff for decades. Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten

    Socks are still tough to find for men with small feet (less than size 8). Even the wider range of sizes you’ve offered, they’d all be too big. Bunching at the foot is just one problem, the other is the heel of the sock occurring near the ankle.

      Mes Chausettes Rogues, Fort Belvedere, Bresciani and Marcoliani are good sources for high quality dress socks in small sizes. I wear a size 7-7.5 US and get my dress socks from these sources.

    Odd in the recommendation of cotton over synthetic fibers. In the active fitness world, especially running, experts in those fields highly recommend avoiding cotton due to its characteristic of holding sweat against your skin leading to discomfort and possibly blisters. Instead they recommend going with quality synthetics which wick moisture away from the skin to the surface to dry quickly which allows feet to breathe. The camping/hiking/backpacking magazines and websites I follow recommend against cotton for the same reason and instead recommend synthetics for the same reason.
    I wonder why the discrepancy with dress clothes? For two decades I have purposely avoided cotton in all my socks, both dress socks and active socks. I guess I will have to give a pair of 100% cotton socks a try and see how they compare. I have loved the synthetics but who knows, I may like the cotton even more.

    Mr. Allison, I enjoy and learn a lot from your videos. Could you kindly help me with this matter: do you recommend to order an extra pair of trousers when buying a suit? Do you yourself commotion an extra pair? Greetings from Vienna!

    I find that wearing socks over the calf can drag on the inside of the trouser leg. Sitting at the bottom of the calf is my preference.

    • @timothytikker1147
      @timothytikker1147 2 месяца назад

      That might be largely a matter of the thickness of the sock material. A sock made of thinner cloth would be less prone to do this.

    Socks from England are considered world class. A quality mid calf sock should not slip down. Try Pantherella

    • @kirbyallison
      @kirbyallison  4 года назад +1

      I’ve never been impressed with Pantherella and have found the Italian socks to actually be of higher quality. English socks tend to be thicker. Perhaps for their colder climate.

    • @sidhsolanki9300
      @sidhsolanki9300 4 года назад

      Kirby Allison respectfully disagree. I wear Patherella daily with my various St. Crispins in California! Very high quality English milled socks.

    So in the end what is the best choice of fabric for hot summers? I agree on the natural fiber construction as even mid-range sellers use 25% nylon/poliester, but what is the most appropriate between cotton, wool and silk or a blend for hot weather? Your wool sockets mention being appropriate for cold weather and nothing is mentioned on the other pairs, is it really appropriate for hot summers?
    An off-topic question as well, it seems most of your accessories are made in europe, do you also ship directly from europe for EU orders or does it go through your US warehouse first?

    • @kirbyallison
      @kirbyallison  4 года назад +3

      Really anything but wool or cashmere is appropriate. And you can certainly get away a thin wool-silk blend. Most of my socks for summer are 100% cotton, but I also enjoy wearing our 100% silk and wool-silk blend.

  • @ewann3

    Almost the entirety of this video is UTTER NONSENSE! I have a high natural body temperature and as part of that, blood pooling means my feet are always hot, so I sweat, lots. I have spent YEARS going through socks and cotton it by far not the best so your 100% cotton isnt fooling me, however high synthetic (Polymer) socks do make me sweat horribly.
    The best sock materials by far are Bamboo Viscose and Merino Wool, both are breathable and comfortable while able to stay up easily (mid cut). Merino is a wonder however frays easier (blend and quality dependant) Both are lower in durability that cotton however personally I avoid a cotton only sock. I would also not recommend any sock blended less than 50 - 60% BV or MW.
    I have a selection of merino blend socks in different qualities and thread gauging, cycled in tight rigid cycle shoes and never had issues.
    Certain brands do different weight socks (summer, autumn, winter) and my merinos are relatively thin for colder climate but manage moisture and temperature perfectly and look very elegant and slender. aren't

    This is so wrong and elitist that it becomes pathetic at a certain point. Most people here have never even encountered over the calf socks. Maybe you just have slippery legs.
