I was lucky enough to catch a full odds shiny Venonat in Fire Red version. I was nervous and unprepared, but managed to get him. :)
Congrats mate!
That was my first shiny I got right below pallet town !
That’s amazing!
Fun Fact: I am still hunting for shiny Treecko in Ruby and Sapphire. 26k soft resets in. Hunting it since 2018. The games give and the games take :D
Consider joining my Discord server as well!
discord.gg/Zsf4agBjYg
@BeatByTobi Unfortunatly not, I'm not actively hunting at the moment. Maybe still in 2020 but who knows :D
How about now?
Dang, good luck, im trying to get a shiny smeargle in Emerald, so i hope it doesnt take too long for me. I hope you get that shiny soon.
Well, the good new is after 1 day, i caught a shiny. The bad news is the SOB is in the wrong nature, even with synchronize.
Im masuda treeko in black rn
Another pro is that you can clone them if you have emerald, and transfer them up to all the newer games while still having a copy of it in the original game that you got it in! :)
That mf'in part!!!
I felt really frustrated when i encountered the Uncatchable shiny poochyena on a normal playtrough
Very nicely put together video, and I learned some new stuff. That’s all I can ask for! Thank you :)
Con: some shinies look either look indistinguishable from the original or look worse than the original color.
Pro: They’re rare.
I'm going to attempt a Shiny Living Dex. Arceus help me...
My R/S and Emerald are all dry batteries but I've found a Treecko and Wurmple on my Ruby so far.
The worst part is the extra display telling me my batteries dead on start up. Really adds up.
Bummed i can never get legit gen 3 Mythicals either.
to My knowledge, having a dry battery results in the RNG being fixed for R/S.
There are services on ebay that will give you the event tickets
It is possible to insert a new battery, done it a few times myself :)
Be sure not to heat the battery itself tho.
The 3 mythicals are also huntable.
Celebi and Jirachi using the Gamecube with their games and Mew through an event in Emerald.
Though no one would hurt you if you use an cheating device to get the event for Mew, for most people it’s about the hunt itself ;)
Good luck!
@@cecillewolters1995 nice I’ve replaced batteries in ruby, sapphire, emerald, crystal and gold. Also have found a shiny treecko in emerald.
@@keeganfaulkner1240 That's amazing! gg
Thanks! It helped a lot!
Thanks for the info!
The Pokémon gods have truly blessed me along my playthroughs with shinies from time to time, but no games like the gen 3 games have I had the best luck with.
Most recently I found a shiny golbat in fire red, a shiny nincada at the very beginning of my current emerald playthrough, and on ruby (over 3 different saves) were shiny zubat, a shiny wismur that died because I was on autopilot mashing the A button farming for exp one time RIP wismur.
And lastly, Ruby's best shiny on one of my playthroughs was after I'd run all the way through meteor falls, on that tiny 2x5tile patch of land where bagon spawns - THE FIRST BAGON ENCOUNTER OF THE GAME WAS A FREAKIN SHINY
Truly blessed
Pokemon gods????? Never.
I found a random full odds shiny Caterpie (now a Butterfree) in Leaf Green earlier this year. It’s now sitting comfortably in my Shield PC. :)
Feed it the Gmax Soup and make it a Gmax Butterfree
It’s still baffling to me the only random shinys I got as a kid were in Gen 3 with Oddish and Latios. I’ve gotten more now as an adult but none through all my gen 4-7 playthroughs made me sad.
What ,a latios! That's rare man. I hope to get one in the future
I’ve always wanted a shiny Latios but never managed to get one. That’s cool dude
@@bigbadchupa9511 it’s was shocking. I was on probably my 11th play through of gen 3, my 3rd or 4th of emerald, and it was on the route just below mt pyre, it’s was standard at this point to see it and catch it but it was shiny this time and I just threw the master ball and lost my shit. Unfortunately I had my house robbed, and therefore had all my games taken with my shinies. I still miss the original but I’ve done a hunt and gotten it back
Oddish was my first ever shiny on sapphire way back in the day and I thought my GB was glitched and that’s why the Pokémon was that color didn’t even know what shinies were back then so I ran from it haha
@@mesadrums375 don't worry, I garauntee the guy who robbed your house and stole your shiny cartridge is rotting in hell
Dang man underated content
Recently started fire red with my roommate, he got a shiny squirtle first try and didn't know til we battled. Also I found I shiny pidgey soon as I got pokeballs in same playthrough and first ghastly in lavender was shiny. So lucky
thats really lucky! thanks for sharing your story :D
Your shiny poochyena comment brings back memories, It actually happned to me, Exactly as you described.xD
I thought i was the only one.
just found a random shiny linoone on a bootleg copy of ruby. i didnt even hunt for it, just stumbled upon it going through some grass. my last save file on the same cart i found a random shiny spheal and shiny hariyama. i think the cart is loaded with shinies or im just lucky either way im so happy!
Congrats! Thats some insane luck (even tho its on a bootleg) :D you could try to trade with a retail game and have them saved! Bootlegs arent really known for stable savegames.
I caught a Shiny Zubat in Meteor Falls in Emerald, I was a little upset about it, but I still caught it, My other Gen 3 Shinies have been Geodude in Team Magma Hideout on My Emerald's original save file, a Pidgey on five island in Leaf Green and... that's it, I don't normally hunt in those games, I'm not patient enough... yet.
Both of mine were random. I got a shiny Taillow in Sapphire by Capt. Briney's house and a Zubat in FireRed in Altered Cave on the Sevii Islands.
Brand new gen 3 hunter going for my first ruby sapphire shiny! Wish me luck yall!
Good Hunt and good luck :D
I once encountered a shiny poochyena
But had zero balls in my pack :')
Oof, sorry to hear :(
In leafgreen while hunting for a lucky egg off chansey in the safari zone i managed to catch a shiny paras and ryhorn.
Congrats! Yeah catching a chansey with the lucky egg can take a while :D
I got lucky and found the lucky egg on the second chansey i caught
This game has so many cons but i think all hunts should be full odds, it makes the shiny a lot more valuable, as a kid i played this non stop and found 14 shiny pokemon, 8 years later i started playing it again and just caught a shiny gulpin
Been playing off and on since 2005 and only caught 2 shiny pokemon in Ruby years later
Damn those are a lot of shinies :O
I wish I can unsee my 1st shiny now I can't start playing my childhood gen 3 pokemon Games I thought in gen 2 red gyarados was the only shiny
Heyyy I have a question,, If I had my battery dry on my ruby and sapphire copies but i changed them to new ones,, Does de RNG problem that affect soft resets and encounters for shinies is gone??
Hey! If you replaced the battery and dont get the "the internal battery has gone dry..." text anymore when starting the game then everything is normal again and soft resets work as intended!
@@RJRacoon thank you so muchhh
I always play Emerald but have not seen any shiny in years. Of course the battery is dead, but how do I know if I hit the "shiny frame" you talk about in the video? If I did not hit the shiny frame, does it mean I can never encounter any shiny in Emerald anymore?
The shiny frame is hidden from the player and is what the game calculates out of values like your trainer ID, secret ID, ect. With a regular ruby/sapphire (good battery), the frame where you would encounter a shiny is randomized when you soft reset your game. With emerald (due to a bug it doesnt matter if or if you dont have a good battery) and with ruby/sapphire with a dead battery the shiny frame will be at the same place every time you soft reset.
For example, if you encountered a shiny on your emerald at frame 9650, which is roughly 160 seconds into your game (1 Second = 60 Frames), you will always find a shiny at that very specific time once you soft reset your game. With R/S and a good battery shiny frames are will always be randomized.
It doesnt matter that shinies arent possible in emerald, but due to that problem many shiny hunters avoid static encounters where you need to soft reset. Normal wild encounter shinies are the better alternative, especially if you hunt for hours without soft resetting, the chance that you hit the same frames over and over are pretty slim
Sorry if its a bit too technical, but I hope I could help a bit explaining it!
So for Ruby. Would you suggest shiny hunting through random encounters or breeding? i'm going for a zangoose
Thats a tough one, since zangoose has like only a 20% encounter rate. Personally I would just do random encounters, because I would not mind shiny swablu as well. If it has to be zangoose specifically, only breeding makes sure its 100% the pokemon you want to have, altho its much slower.
@@RJRacoon Appreciate your insight. I've actually been doing eggs for like 40 hours game time and no luck. So maybe ill switch to random encounters. But on the plus side I do have 2 level 100 Zangooses
I am playing an original, authentic sapphire version with a working internal battery on a gameboy advance SP, and I managed to find a Shiny Treecko after only about 300 resets. I turned the gameboy off and on rather than soft resetting with A/B/SEL/START.
Does dry internal battery mean it’s impossible to get a shiny starter in ruby and sapphire at ALL? Or does it just make it more difficult? Sorry I got a bit confused at this point
Its not impossible, chances are that you hit the same frame (creating the same non shiny Pokemon) over and over again with a dry batteries as the frames are not randomzied anymore when soft resetting. Unfortunatly its quite technical.
@@RJRacoon how would you determine if the reset is actually giving you a different Pokémon??
@@pabliko81 One way is to check its stats for example, in theory with a dry battery if you encounter your starter at the same frame it should have the same gender and stats every single time.
With an intact battery it gets more or less randomised
I'm a little lost, in the specific case of soft resetting in Pokémon Sapphire for a Regice and the internal battery has run dry, I can get it, but every time I reset, it gets set back to the same values?
So to get a shiny I would have to wait a different amount of frames every time before I interact with it? So it could be possible that I have to let the game run a few hours or even days before interacting?
Yes you got it right! Letting the game run for hours or days wouldnt matter much, as with any soft reset it starts at the same, original, frame again. Letting it run only affects random encounters, when hunting wild pokemon you can run away from. Shiny hunting pokemon this way is very possible.
For the games, each second is divided in 60 frames. Problem with Emerald or RS with dry battery is that with each soft reset you start from the same frame again. If you interact with regice always around at the same time (which you usually do when soft resetting) then theres a chance you hit the same frames over and over again. Shiny frames happen every once in a while, so its not impossible to get a shiny this way.
People who got an early shiny frame and know when it will happen manage to abuse that to get a lot of shinies in no time. I got a shiny torchic on my emerald version, and I got it around 4 seconds after entering my game. With that knowledge with any legendary I can just save and soft reset, wait 4 seconds and soft reset again if I didnt hit the right frame. Hitting a certain frame within 1 second is basically a 1/60 chance so that takes a bit of practice.
With a good battery on ruby/sapphire your frames after you soft reset will be randomized, and you will never hit the same frame when you interact with your target.
Back to your question, you could wait an additional second or two every 100 soft resets or so after resetting your game, that way its at least more unlikely that you hit the same frames over and over again. Replacing the battery would be less tedious in the long run tho.
Hope I could help! Good hunt!
@@RJRacoon ah ok, thanks for explaining. I didn't understand how it works at all but the video helped a lot!
I have a question, I just started playing Pokemon Ruby again and I can't get a final answer if (having got a dead internal battery) I can encounter shiny Pokemon randomly in the grass, without soft resets, is it possible ??
Yes, you can!
The task of the internal battery is, for one part, to continue the internal clock, but for the other, to re-fresh your frame once you soft resetted. If a pokemon is shiny or not is solely dependend on if you hit a frame which allows the pokemon to be shiny or not.
Playing Pokemon Emerald, or Ruby/Sapphire with a dead internal battery, sets your frame back to the SAME POINT once you soft resetted EVERY TIME.
This means that, for every pokemon you actually need to soft reset for, you need a shiny frame that is so early that you could hit it in the time it takes you to reset the game and press A to interact with your target.
Playing Ruby/Sapphire with a good battery and you reset means that the frame you re-enter the game is completely random. If you do the same on Emerald or R/S with a dead battery you need to have good luck to have frame which allows a shiny pokemon early on.
The thing is, With Emerald or R/S (dead Battery), that your frame is still advancing when the game is running. This means that random encounters are not affected at all for shiny hunting.
TL;DR: Yes it is very possible. I just would not recommend soft resetting.
Hope I could help! good luck hunting!
@@RJRacoon oh, that's great ! thank you very much for the info !!!
No idea if you'll read this since it's been a while since you've uploaded this, just bought a nice modded GBA sp, looking to get emerald, I'm very into shiny hunting and breeding perfect IVs, can I just jump into a new save file on emerald and do what I want or do I have to do something funny to enable shiny Pokémon?
Hey! Sure, when it comes to randomly encountering shiny pokemon in the wild you can still use emerald. Due to a coding error in the games, hunting stationaries is not preferable in emerald, since the game always loads the save from the same frame. A frame (60 per second) where you encounter the pokemon determines if it is shiny or not, based on a complicated calculation including your Trainer ID and Secret ID.
In Ruby/Sapphire with a working battery the state of the initial frame when starting up your save is randomised, while in emerald it is always the same after starting a new game.
The longer you keep your game running without soft resetting the more the frame will advance. Thats why random encounters are not affected. But Stationaries, where you soft reset has a chance that you will hit the same (non shiny) frame over and over again, since its not ramdomised.
Magma Armor/Flame body egg hatching only works for Emerald
Regarding Emerald, the RNG can operate as a pro and a con.
Due to how the RNG works, while not having an early shiny frame can make hunts harder, alternatively, having an early shiny frame will make shiny hunts easier.
- that’s why some hunters flat-out start a new game and reroll their Trainer ID in hopes of better Shiny RNG
Yeah some like it some dont, you make a fair point
I’ve been shiny hunting a Southern Isle Latias for a good 8 months now. 15 hours+ literally thousands of SRs. Still nothing.
By chance is your battery dead?
I found a shiny Magikarp on Emerald years ago after 50 hours fishing on a dead battery. But I wanted a male one so now I'm searching again on Leaf Green. About 15 hours in no luck.
Roughly takes 36 hours to encounter 8192 Magikarps.
Found a full odds shiny wurmple in Sapphire when searching for a ralts yesterday, guess I'm using a dustox on my team now 😂
..or a Beautifly, one never knows :D congrats!
So i started a save file with a dry battery on Ruby and i wanted to shiny hunt for a Eon ticket Latias. I saved right in front of the stone while I still had the dry battery. I replaced the battery and the dry battery message is gone. Can i soft reset for it now and is my game still loaded with the exact same values every time or is it randomized now every time i soft reset?
Yes, as long as the dry battery message is gone, values, nature and shinieness is randomized from every Soft reset again. Good luck hunting!

I know I’m really late but if your internal battery has run dry does that mean you can’t hunt for shinies? Or is it just a longer process
sorry for my late reply, I forgot to answer. Yes, it is indeed possible to hunt for a shiny, but every shiny you would hunt via !soft reset! is unlikely to be shiny, except that you are lucky enough to have an early shiny frame. I explained it to another comment of mine as well, I'll repeat my explanation of how the RNG works for you gladly ^^
-The task of the internal battery is, for one part, to continue the internal clock, but for the other, to re-fresh your frame once you soft resetted. If a pokemon is shiny or not is solely dependend on if you hit a frame which allows the pokemon to be shiny or not.

RJRacoon oooh okay understood. So with that explanation in mind say I wanted a shiny starter, i would need an ungodly amount of luck or A LOT of resets to get one? Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to reply🙏 I really appreciate it.
@@Oh.Nah_ Basically, yes, it is not that uncommon to have an early shiny frame tho, but there is no odds on how common that is!
Another explanation I like to use more lately is the following:
You try to find the love of your life (the shiny).
With a dry battery or when palying on emerald with every soft reset you start in the same town, while with a healthy battery you can look in a different city every time you soft reset :D
That doesnt mean that you wont find the love of your life in your town, but its very very unlikely.
If its about the starter its not the end of the workd, usually the hunters I know would do the following: start a new game file, soft reset for around 1000 times, then start a new game file and repeat.
RJRacoon alright I’ll definitely have to try that strategy out. 1000 resets then new game. I really want a shiny torchick, and mudkip
@@RJRacoon hmmm interesting. Never knew about this early shiny frame rate? Would that explain how i came across so many RE shinys with full odds in gen 2 silver? I came across about 8-10. Then for ruby in 3rd gen i came across like 3 early in game
I got a shiny Medicham while grinding on Victory Road on Pokemon Ruby. Unfortunately it has MODEST nature, so I transferred it to Pokemon Home in hopes I could give it a mint someday on Pokemon Shield version. I guess I should give up on that dream though.

If my internal battery dies in Sapphire, does that mean I can’t Soft reset to get a shiney Beldom?
Hey Teagan, you can still try to soft reset for beldum, but its unlikely that it will be shiny if it isnt shiny after the first 1000 resets or so. Another comment asked a similar question, I will post the repy I had written for him, maybe this will help to understand :)
-The task of the internal battery is, for one part, to continue the internal clock, but for the other, to re-fresh your frame once you soft resetted. If a pokemon is shiny or not is solely dependend on if you hit a frame which allows the pokemon to be shiny or not.

Replacing the battery is not that big of a deal tho, it can even be done solderless. In contrast to gen 1/2 games, you wont lose your save wither while replacing the battery. I'd recommend exchanging the battery in any case. Just to give you better odds at stationary hunts
RJRacoon Hmmm should I keep soft resetting to try and capture it? Or just give up and get the best nature?
@@teagangiselbrecht8529 I would try to soft reset for a shiny in your situation nevertheless, atleast for like 1-2k tries. try to delay pressing "A" when you get the beldum every once in a while, so that you dont hit the same frame over and over.

damn, thats cool :D congrats!
So you don’t need to reset for a especially id or anything weird?
Please I’m in 5000 resets for a shiny treecko starter and I’m getting worried
If the Battery on Ruby/Sapphire is good and you are not playing emerald you can soft reset as normal. If you are playing on emerald or dry battery ruby/sapphire then your frames wont get refreshed when you soft reset, and you start from the same frame again. That doesnt make a shiny impossible, but the chance is big that you hit the same (non shiny) frame over and over again. Its quite technical unfortunatly

Ruby/Sapphire is good as long as you dont get the "The Battery has run dry" message. From this point its broken as in Emerald.

If the battery is dead on my Sapphire. Does random shiny encounter still work?
You may still encounter shinies, but the times when you do are no longer randomized. If you arent hunting for starters or stationaries, then you should still be fine
@@RJRacoon sorry, but what do you mean by no longer randomized?
@@VictorGonzalez-vj6jy The game decides if the pokemon you encoutner is shiny or not by a lot of math, and it includes the moment you encounter the pokemon (60 frames per second, you may encounter a shiny pokemon at frame 3 for example)
When the battery is dry, the moment, or frame, you encounter the pokemon start always from the same point. That means you do a softreset and it is set when you will encounter s shiny pokemon.
With a good battery this moment gets randomized with every soft reset
@@RJRacoon gotcha. I heard about that, but I thought it was only an issue for Emerald version.
@@VictorGonzalez-vj6jy Emerald version is a bit weird here, because of a bug in the code it behaves the same like ruby/sapphire with a dead battery, even though the battery in emerald may still be fine (Dont get the message "the battery has run dry").

So I can’t shiny hunt in Ruby cause my battery dried out 😰
Hey! Its not impossible but its Kind of a gambling, if you dont have an early shiny frame then Soft resetting is not an option. Emerald or Ruby/Sapphire with a dead battery always starts your save with the same frame generated when you created your game. If there is no "shiny frame" within the First seconds after booting the game then you wont get a shiny when Soft resetting. Ruby/Sapphire with a working battery randomize where the shiny frame is with every Soft reset. Btw Random encounters is still possible, as your frames continue once your game is running.
