I sympathize with his character too from these trailers, especially this one. Rather than 1 bad day, it is many bad days and a guy who's trying his very best to play by the rules and be a good person but what he gets from that is everyone turning his back on him + physical violence. Now this is the end result and it is something beyond terrifying. A guy who sees his life as a comedy views the universe as his playground and living beings as his toys. I agree with you regarding bullying.

I really do think after this movie comes out and everybodys seen it Joaquin phoenix will be the gold standard for the joker. I really loved Nicholson's and Ledgers jokers both but I think Phoenix is definitely capable of surpassing them in the role especially after seeing these trailers.

I like how this went from a reaction to a speech on society. Usually the people who complain think they are not part of the problem, but you are pointing out how they are ... especially prophetic given how much more important social media has become since coronavirus hit.

I remember when they announced that he was going to be playing joker and EVERYONE trashed him and said what a horrible choice blah blah,..I KNEW tho with his talent and immersing himself in his roles, himself hat it would be epic!!! Dark , but based on actual realities of our society that just keeps getting worse! Had total faith it would be good but had No idea it could be this. AND I LOVE going back and was watching teaser trailer reactions to it, people are crying and feeling real emotion and gen at the end going on and on about how they were wrong and SO excited. For it!! How awesome!!
This isn't a superhero movie. This is a film about a man finding himself. Its about a man Finding his confidence. It's a man who is finally on his path in life (even though it's bad). People may or may not like him. But you have to respect him!

Joaquin Phoenix is a an Oscar worthy depiction of the Joker, as Ledger was. Great many thanks for your kind words, they are really needed in times like now. Here in Russia we have similar stories, like your school shootings, the last one was a teenager who committed suicide, but killed his whole family before jumping of a radio tower (He left a note, that he killed them so they are not sad about his demise). The world is going crazy, because somebody didn't take some time to see or do something to prevent incidents like this. I agree on you girl. I didn't even know that this movie exist, like how this movie relates the mental health trend. A psychological thriller that will drives us through it. Dealing the negativity on our lives sometimes lose us.
I LOVE seeing that he was a REAL genuine good person. Trying to bring happiness to people, taking care of his mom, falling in Love, and then slowly starts falling down hill and he gives up finally! The use of Frank Sinatra's 'Send in the clowns' song added such a haunting tone throughout.
That comparison of Anakin/Vader is a good way to view this picture. I like how this version is creating a completely brand new version of a character that has been around for decades.

I think this film will put us all through the emotional wringer honestly, we'll laugh, cry, be outraged - can't wait, to see this version of the rise of arguably, the greatest comic book villain, he's always been a compelling character & I think casting Joaquin Phoenix was a master stroke! & I loved the sloooow build of 'send in the clowns' through this trailer very foreboding!!

Do we need another Joker? Yesaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. This question was probably asked by many when the Origin Story by Todd Phillips was announced. But Joaquin Phoenix removes all doubts in the first and second trailer. Not only do I predict an Oscar nomination, but he also wins the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role. This film will silence all doubters. Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow incredible. Holy shit. This movie will hit like a bomb. I think Todd Phillips was inspired by the movies Raging Bull, King of Comedy and Taxi driver. I also think he was inspired by the books, the killing Joke by Allan Moore and the return of the dark knight by Frank Miller.
He definitely will be nominated, but I think Tom Hanks will win for Mr. Rogers!

Thank you so much for saying everything you did about cyber bullies and the effect their negative remarks and actions can have on people who are struggling daily to deal with their own fears and demons. Someone very close to me deals with this regularly; struggling with mental illness yet also having to contend with unwarranted negativity and meanness from internet trolls and bullies. It must make them feel powerful to constantly tear down others or to pick on someone they consider weaker than themselves. I don't know what their problems are, but it's disgusting behavior, so thank you for being one of those who speak out against it.

Cyber bullies or any type of person out there who likes to sh"t on others has deep self hatred and needs to bring others down to their level because of that. They need serious help. This movie is a stark warning about some peple out there that not only snap but think they are justified in causing serious harm to others because they themselves got bullied. It is never ok to do that to anyone regardless of how much you hurt. Its understandable but never ok to do that. You will just cause more hurt to someone and around and around we all go as a society. Joker is the warning, the tragic part of society that thinks its ok to hurt others. I have a feeling it will get very nasty at the end like Carrie. We all felt sorry for Carrie but when she snapped it was not ok about what happened and what she did.

Problem is we take all this online shit way too seriously today, online used to be a place where you would/could escape reality, and say things you would never say in the real world, well now this bullshit has become a new reality, and now we judge people by their online content, even it's it content from several years as if nobody changes overtime. This Joker movie really (I don't believe) won't have much to do with comic book lore, it's meant to take a famous character, and create a tragic new origin that also works as a cautionary tale. If the message of the movie if to treat people better or we risk creating monsters in the process it's not the worst message. Connectivity through social media has done more bad than good in my opinion, now everyone has voice and far too often those voices are nasty.

Not a place to be a hateful human and bash others and bring people down. We need to stop that and stop supporting those who do that. It takes one person to stand against it and maybe we all will figure out that this needs to change and it’s up to us to change it. I understand if this took a step away from lore, but I think the joker still will send a good message and an example. Be the one person who tries to create happiness in a world of hate but don’t shut him down. We need a community of positivity and respect. Not hate and bullying.
