I don't know why it took so much time for me to bump into this video, but I am so happy I did... Pure admiration is what I feel for Sir Ian McKellen. Thanks for existing.
When I was carrying our first child, I asked my husband “What if they are gay?l”. Given our very Christian upbringing, one which supported conversion therapy - I was so proud that he said it would never change our love and support. I’ve been proud of my children, each and every one of them. I’ve been glad of conversations which have been open and honest. I’ve been grateful that our babies are able to be themselves. I’m glad of the Partners which love my children wholly, for all that they are, glad to welcome them as part of our family through love. We have welcomed friends who have less understanding at home. So many children of my heart, those I’ve given birth to and those who come our way. We pray for the time which will come, a time of grace. Blessings! Xoxoxo
Thank you Harvey Milk. Without you, there would be no Pete Buttigieg. I'm voting for Pete but not JUST because he's gay, but having him represent my community is part of it
I’m not gay, but this video really is moving. I am happy that today gays are mostly accepted and can be themselves without judgment. There are exceptions, but I can feel the difference today.
@@yathinkinc Many a revolution has crumbled for lack of snacks! In fact, nothing like the promise of a full belly to bring the crowds. But if the brownies are special, hope it's a sit-in!
Not gay. I count several friends near and far from that branch of the human family, though. And I am struck by the connection made in my mind: without Harvey Milk in San Francisco in the US...we would not see Kathleen Wynne as premier of Ontario, Canada today. She makes mistakes, but - by and large - she is competent. And she would not be in office today, if not in part for Harvey Milk.
Kathleen Wynne had a competent staff around her. She made a lot of bad decisions alongside the good ones. I think what's more important, what the real result of the efforts of people like Harvey Milk is, is that she is criticized for her actions and merits and not because of her homosexuality.
I love this. Fantastic speech fantastic actor. One feedback is that I have a problem with the fast camera changes and angles. To many, to fast, and it makes me loose track of what he is saying because of the eye-stimuli. Other than that, thank you.
It is cruel to live in a world where People are misjudged by their way and the gender they love. We are human, wich gives us the ability to empathize. It may be, in the eyes of most People, that empahty is the Thing that makes us human. We can Judge our own Actions not only by the Outcome but by the way it is affecting other People. The second Point is that we know that we can`t know anything close to everything About other persons until we speak to them and listen with not only our ears but with our hearts. But we Always have to be open for new opinions and ways that may have never been known to us before. All those abilitys, all this logic and empathy and still we think we could know a Person just by the Information that this Person is gay. What is the Point in beeing human, if we miss the most important part of it? What gives us the Right set our selves above other People? I am just a random Person writing this comment for who ever reads it but still i am a part of the billions of People Living on this earth. But as small as my Impact may be ,it is still there affecting all the People around me just like you (dear Reader) affect the People around you. Everyone of us can make a difference. Just by not giving in to the ods you hear in public and beeing open hearted you make a important step. It is only a small step but it is a step in the Right direction and there wikll Always be hope for better days if we Keep moving. These are just my own thoughts bout this Topic. I am streight. But i still hope this endless war between humans, be it with guns or the war we fight against others People in our everyday life, we have to stop, finaly Comes to an end.
Definition of humanity is where philosophy fails us. What actually matters about a human being, and what is nobody's business and shouldn't be segregated against. What does it matter if one is straight or gay, or black or white, or has an eagle nose, blue eyes, small chin, when one is a fellow human being who loves, and feels hurt when evil is done against them, and knows evil when it's done by one's own hand no matter the current justification?
I didn't raise my kids in a "coming out" environment. I look forward to a day when the rest of the world doesn't expect a proclamation of ones sexuality; a thing which can be entirely fluid throughout your life. I hope my kids run for office. I hope I have created the change I want to see in the world.
Keep your life & thoughts out of my sexual life, along with relationships I have. I shall do same respectfully fair consideration towards you as well. I might be (as you label) "straight, I shall leave that opinion open. One confirmation I declare is I indeed a human. One with love, empathy &compassion for all life. Hideous acts of hatred towards another is inhumane in my life. Judgmental are left to those whose empty life full of goal unattainable, with time on hand to fill with occupied spreading of loathing. How Dismal an exist lacking the happiness & joys tht surround them daily from what offerings available for free. Possibly one day, validation.
The problem is that you're dealing with homosexuality as a fixed state, as if a homosexual is obliged to be so just like a black man has no choice to change his origin. I'm not going to argue whether it's a good or a bad choice for a man to raise homosexual habits and let them form and control his sexual life, character and identity. But I have to say that homosexuality is not something that cannot be changed, it comes from choices, actions, and conditions that pile up building the character of a homosexual person, and just like many buildings, it can be deconstructed and rebuilt. I find it so important to keep humans all over the world aware of the possibilities and choices they have in life far from what they're normalized to believe and do by media and other sources.
I haven't read anything more ridiculous and patronising than this! While you might argue that you meant no harm and this is why I use the word patronising. You are mixing gender and sexuality , which are two different things. You talk about gender confirming behaviour. These are constructed and 'these' can be destructed! People everyday construct their gender through their actions, while some may choose to prescribe to the archaic ones, most of us choosing our roles, thereby constantly changing, revisiting, revising gender. Sexuality cannot be changed. You cannot choose to love someone. You only feel and that has got nothing to how you dress, talk, walk or what profession you choose to be in.
Anwer Al Qaftan You actually repeatedly typed being gay is a “choice”? Are you that ignorant & uneducated or think this is still 1960 since those disoriented beliefs were considered to be “acceptable”!? Your continued use of the word “homosexual” & failing to use LGBTQ, gay, etc is further proof of your thinly veiled bigotry, abhorrent homophobia & hatred for those born different than you. Do you still refer to African-Africans as “colored” & “negro”, which was similarly commonplace 50+ years ago. Your despicable homophobic bigotry & ignorance has NO PLACE on a public forum - or anywhere rise in society in 2021! Educate yourself!
The universe was showing off when Ian was made, he is beyond fabulous.
Harvey would have loved this immensely.
Wishing Ian McKellen the best since his fall. He is and always has been a strong bright light in our flickering humanity.
