Commenting the sizes so I can come back to it later. (and for anyone else who may like it) Thanks for this great pattern and your explanations were perfect! * 10"x10" square (2x outer fabric | 2x lining | 2x interfacing) * 3"x15" rectangle (1x strap - outer fabric) * box corners - measure 2" from corner
Made this yesterday morning. It took a little longer because I kept stopping and referring to the video. I had never done boxed corners or a lining. You were very clear & it came out very nice. Thank You
I just started sewing and this is the first substantial thing I’ve made and I’m in love! Thank you for easy instructions. I first read the written instructions and was quite confused so I was so glad for video. I had to seek out another video to box the corners, but everything else was great. Thank you! I’m so proud of myself!
You are such a Wonderful Teacher 🎉❤. As you have given Clear instructions, i will surely stitch this & gift them to my friends. They will Love this !! .Thank You❤❤.🎉
i love this. trying to find inexpensive gifts to make for christmas. found this on Pinterest but i am a visual learner so looked up video. making my list and heading to fabric store this weekend. will add a box of Kleenex and some spray hand sanitizer, whew cheap useful gift. i am all about useful gifts. thank you SMILE
Thank you for such a detailed tutorial! I made the trash can for my car, and am really using it. Made it more so for my 16 year old who is always leaving candy wrappers.
I loved making this trash bag, but I also took it one step further after I made a few. I didn’t like the thought of wet things going into the trashcan so the next one I made I put iron on vinyl on the inside liner fabric so it could be wiped out.
Planning to make a few of these to put face masks in after they’re worn. Then I can wash the masks and the bag. Thanks for the step by step instructions!
I have two cavalier King Charles spaniels and purchased fabric with them on it. I’m going to make my car trash bags out of this fabric. The video was very helpful and the end product looks very professional (wasn’t sure about it when I started it). Wish me luck.
Thank you for this tutorial. I made one several years ago and have been very happy with it, but it is now dirty and faded. So I just made a new one with sturdier interfacing and a waterproof PUL lining. I also have a shorter version hanging above my dryer for discarded lint.
Thanks for this great video. I have made about 6 or 8 of these now. I played around a bit with a couple of them and added strapping at the tip to help hold them open. I bow have the thicker interfacing seems and that seems to work well without the extra hassle. :-) I still have to make one out of Loon fabric for my husband's car. Lol. Thanks again. Such a good tutorial.
This was extremely fun to make! Thank you for the step by step. I had a bit of trouble with the corners, as you weren’t in the camera, but I figured it out! Can’t wait to do more of your videos! Tyvm :) 🥰❤️
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create this great trash bag for the car. I love ❤❤❤ how it turned out. And I’ve subscribed and give you a thumbs up too. I would have liked to have seen you sewing 🧵 it, but that’s a minor thing.
I just made this with the following modifications: 1) I measured the size to fit around a plastic container, the type you would keep cereals in with a lid that has a smaller opening you flip up to pour out the cereals. This has been my trash container before but it was irritating to have it float around the car floor. I skipped the lid...Now it is inside the bag, easily removable and washable. There could be some nasty hankerchiefs etc I would not put in a textile bag. 2) Instead of sewing the strap I used what I had at home, the type of string you see on hoodies, to draw in the material. I placed two of them on the same side some 14 cm apart thinking that it would be relatively easy to change the position of the bag when needed just untying them and tying yo another seat e.g. . I need to test how this works...if you choose this way you could use any bucket/container to fit in the bag. Update:tested, works fine! Happy sewing! This was fun, easy and useful
If you use shower curtain for liner on the bag, it gives it some water resistance. The shower curtain is very inexpensive so you can get several lining pieces out of it. It is also washable, but I let it air dry. No need to use interfacing because the shower liner gives it the stiffness you want.
I love this so much! I’ve been needing to make a reusable trash bag for my car and this is perfect! I’ve made a few bags that are very similar so this will be super easy for me! I’m new to sewing so anything that’s just slightly different from what I’m already comfortable making is perfect for me! The only difference is the way I do the boxed corners and of course the strap! And the best part? I already have my fabrics cut out! 🤗 I’m so excited to make this tomorrow.
Sew Very Crafty thank you for sharing your creativity with us!!! I love my little trash bag! It was easy and quick (sort of lol. I kept sewing the wrong sides together and then I sewed the handle sticking up instead of in the inside smushed between the fabrics lol.). I love it and it’s the perfect size! I even sent a friend this video because she loved my bag so much!
I am getting requests right and left for these! I made one for my new truck that I gifted myself. Then my oldest daughter wanted one. I posted on FB, now EVERYONE wants one. This literally takes 10 minutes for me to do. I have been sewing for 50 years. (Back in the 70s it was required for young ladies to know how to sew.) But, even a 1st timer could make these.
Also, I trimmed the edges off of the boxed corners. I do not believe in the tutorial it stated that. And, I did one can with the cut boxed corners as well. Both are simple and easy methods.
@@SewVeryCrafty plus last night I whipped up 3 more. 1 because I did not feel the quality was up to snuff on the one I made for my aunt and 2 extras for gifts. :) Thanks for the video!
@@marielitapineda2835 It depends on whether you are going to put it over your gear knob. If you are then it can stay the same size. If you are placing it elsewhere like ver the back of the seat it will need to be longer.
Thanks for the video! Is the interfacing machine washable? I want to make one that is machine washable but the video mentioned that the interfacing has a glue. Will it loosen if submerged in water?
Good video! It is better if you cut off the extra triangle material in the boxing’s ends before you turn it at the end, less bulk. Thanks.
Thanks for the tip! I usually do that. Don't know what I was thinking.
I left my corners. It makes the boxy bottom keep its shape a little better. I made mine in purples for my work vehicle. 😎

Awesome! Thank you!
I cut my corners before pinning and sewing, it makes it much easier to line up the seams. Thank you for the great tutorial x
Great tip! Thanks for trying out the project.

great project, super easy, LOVED the result!
I love your straight-forward, step by step instructions. Though a complete novice, I was able to do this! And now I can box corners!!! Thank you!

Nicely done. I will try one with a sanitizer pocket too and it will certainly make a nice gift for drivers among friends.
Thank you. Good luck with yours!!

Many check out the blog at www.sewverycrafty.com
I love this video! please keep making them! very helpful
Thank you! Will do!
Thanks!
Welcome!
Wonderful use for this item
Yes, thank you
I think I would stitch the bottom of the lining before pushing it down in there.
Yes. That is what you should do.
Can't wait to make these for my friends! It seems that fat quarters would work well for them?
Fat quarters may not be enough fabric unlike a quarter yd of fabric.
Awesome!❤️
Thanks. Glad you like it!
Did you give the dementions?
Not the finished dimensions just the dimensions of the pieces
Yes. I provided the dimensions of the pieces. If you missed them you can get them on the website which is in the description section of the video.
Great video except audio isn't good
Sorry about that.
What size is this when you are done?
Beautiful - but don’t put any wet trash it it! 🇳🇿
You can use Ripstop nylon for he interior for we items if you like.
I added a pocket to lining to hold my cell phone.
Great idea.
Do you use steam?
Not usually
Are all the pieces, lining, outer & interfacing 10" square??
Yes. You could cut the interfacing smaller by the seam allowance to avoid bulk if you like.
Just be careful when you put the strap in before sewing that it is nestled between the lining and the fabric.
Absolutely.
what is the size of the strap?
1 piece of fabric that measures 3" x 15" for the strap
Thanks 😃
If I make the the bag part of the trash bag 16”x16” or 17”x17”, is the strap Strap still going to be 3”x15”?

You never stated the dimensions of the strap fabric, I guessed?
I am so sorry. I have now added it to the comments section. It should be 3" x 15" for the strap.
@@SewVeryCrafty thank you
What did you use for the lining?
I used standard cotton for this but you could use PUL or some other waterproof fabric.
Sew Very Crafty I’ve never heard of Pul before, what is it?
Thanks for the video! Is the interfacing machine washable? I want to make one that is machine washable but the video mentioned that the interfacing has a glue. Will it loosen if submerged in water?
What are the measurements for the strap
3" x 15"
I had to watch and wait to find this out... I can't find where she mentions it.. so huge thanks 😊
Is the strap interfaced as well ?? I can’t find the instructions
Without measurements I can't make this.
I give the measurements in the video. The bag itself is 10" x 10" square and the strap is 3" x 15" .
