    Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

    Beautiful animal Gus Congemi, as well as a beautiful shot. Most people will complain about it, and then go to the grocery store and buy a pound of hamburger and not think about the cow that died so they can feed their family. Mostly just a bunch of hypocrites that have no idea how the world really works. Keep the vid's coming, I'll always watch.

    For the non-hunters and the anti-hunters:
    "A ton of blood" means that it was hit in the vital organs and humanely harvested. As an experienced hunter myself, I can assure you that the pain this bear went through was minimal. Because we are omnivores, it is necessary that other animals are killed for our sustenance. This hunter was very ethical in his choice of shot, as evidenced by his relief that there was a lot of blood immediately seen and in his decision not to shoot the first bear, even though an archer of his capabilities could easily make the shot. He said specifically he "wanted a double-lung shot," and he got it. He was also being ethical in that he chose to take the responsibility of harvesting a wild animal himself rather than relying solely on others' industrially-raised animals.
    You don't have to understand exactly why people choose to hunt, but a little understanding and respect of those who do makes you more informed on the subject and will make your opinions have a little more weight.

      I agree but the bear I shot had a 29 9/16" skull #1 SCI at the time. he was 19.5 years old. He might not have had the same body size as the first bear but I doubt the first bear had a larger skull. Not that it mattered, I was shooting any mature bear that gave me a clean bow shot on but skull size are how bears are scored

      No doubt, sensible hunting keeps the ecological balance - but hunting with bow and arrow only means evil torture to the creature and fun for the killer!
      Only use big-bore rifles. That`s quick and clean.

    • @LivetheWildLifeTV
      @LivetheWildLifeTV  8 лет назад +6

      I disagree. Any poor shot, rifle or bow, will not result in a clean kill. The amazing thing about a bow shot is the apparent absence of shock after the shot. I have had animals run and not know what had happened. They died quickly and cleanly. This bear died within minutes of my shot. It is up to the hunter to decide if he can make a clean double lung shot. If you watched this video you know I passed up a shot on a standing bear because of that very reason.

      Live the Wild Life TV I hunt with dogs in the UK and personally think guns can make things to easy dogs take healthy animals but will always pick out the weakest keeping the prey population healthy... guessing hunting with a bow when the animal, especially when injured, can literally take you to pieces makes you MORE careful of your shot and swift closure to a hunt

I, as woman hunt to feed my family, only my father and husband say bear is an awesome meat to fill a freezer. I am not THAT good with a bow (like Dad) or a rifle ( like the husband) to shoot something that dangerous, but I have been saving for their trip for many years, so they can go and look forward to trying it. (we havent bought domestic meat in many years thanks to hunting and the grocerie bills are next to nothing because we dont have a meat bill.

    Gus, I'm not a hunter myself but I've been learning more about it lately and I've been wanting to go sometime in the future. I think if hunting if is done ethically and humanely, there is nothing wrong with it and in some regions it is necessary. I will say that I don't think animals should be killed just to say you shot a huge bear with a bow and from your comments I can tell you feel the same way. My only question is what purpose did the bear serve after you killed it? Was the meat used for food? (Also, how did you get the bear out of the brush?)

    It always amazes me that videos titled about hunting, killing, etc are watched by people opposed to hunting. Why watch it if you're going to be upset by it? Hunting is a way of life and a God given right. I hunt for food and I can tell you that when I kill an animal I use every part of it and the animals I kill have lived a much better life than farmed animals and have died a much more humane way. If you don't believe it, punch in slaughter house floor on youtube. Hunters are the main contributors to conservation, how many of you who are opposed to hunting contribute to conservation in any way at all?

    That was so cool. I shot a medium sized brown bear just south of Katmai national monument in the early 80's. We watched it cross the river coming right at us. I was knelt on a bear trail that lead right where he was crossing the river. Instead of taking the trail, she walked up a small creek that was just to my right a couple of feet. I twisted as far as I could to get a shot. When I looked through the scope, all I could see was blurry hair. I sighted down the barrel and hit her high in the shoulder because the angle was very similar to this shot. To our surprise, she went down and never got up from that spot. We estimated the shot at about 10' from the muzzle of my 7MM mag.
    Needless to say, my heart was racing when it was all over. Thanks for the video and bringing back memories.

      @Freecheese It is not a ridiculous statement.Alaska has a brown bear hunt on Kodiak island.They issue so many permits and the hunters are allowed to kill the big males.You are only allowed to take the skin and leave the meat behind for the other animals.There was a whole series about it.It is because the older bigger bears on the island will kill the younger ones.

    • @kodiakpredator
      @kodiakpredator 6 лет назад +10

      Absolutely true. We are currently over run by bears. The big males kill and eat the cubs both as a food source and to bring the sow back in to heat.

      You are not smart. Killing the old bear would allow for over population. They have a perfect natural balance, humans are throwing it off by hunting for the big one. 100 years ago tuna caught were way bigger, the big tuna did not get to reproduce so tuna caught now a days are smaller. Same thing is happening with other animals. No balance.

I am a small teenage girl from the suburbs but I have decided that I want to look into learning to hunt. Whatever it takes. Archery in particular has caught my fancy. I like the way a bow feels. I like knowing where my food comes from, I like meat, I like nature, and I know that hunting is important to conservation and gives the animal a faster death than it would naturally have.

    Correct me of I'm wrong, but hunters are at the forefront of conservation. They drive the DNR studies and then the DNR issues permits on a limited basis so as to keep populations healthy. They also support local economies and help keep environmentally toxic industries i.e. mining from getting established.

      Elk, moose, and bears are all large animals that are hunted remotely and every piece of meat transported for consumption. Usually on the backs of the hunters in many trips over several miles. Bones and entrails are left behind and is usually close to half of the weight of the animal. There are very few or no animals that produce 800 pounds of meat. ( I saw that figure in another Comment I think)

    I disagree with killing for "sport" unless you are feeding a Family and you have to do it for survival. I learned to hunt and shoot since I was little and later went into law enforcement since I was 21 and have over 50 years experience. It is better to commune with nature and not upset the "balance" Native American Indians know and understand all this. Nothing goes to waste. It is also bad Karma not to pray over the "food" you have "harvested" for your "survival". Killing is Killing. I hope most of you will understand. Take care....

      ***** Thanks Gus! Very good answers and professional. I have considered hunting again as I used to when I was a child/teen in Texas. Nothing too serious. I am doing serious research on our Native American Ancestors and "other" American hunters have all but depleted the Buffalo. I think Bears should be protected and Boars hunted. I used to be a Fed and cross trained Fish & Wildlife. I carried a gun for over 40 years but in law enforcement. I also worked at the U.S. Mexican Border and enforced 40 agencies 400 laws, etc..I've seen a few videos with bow hunting Bears and they were allegedly within 3-6 feet? Wow ! A little too close, even for Smokey the Bear. Just wondered what the best type of bow is good for me? I am 6'3" tall large build. Special arrows? Tips? Or would you trust an old fashioned wooden bow(Indian style??) Stay safe okay ?

      ***** Nice ICON Michael! Cloak & Dagger stuff is my background. The biggest problem the Native American Indians had was they were LIED to and they tried to believe their could be Peace between the White American settlers. The Government has not changed very much in 200 some years. American children are NOT taught the Truth about how bad our Calvary and military acted towards the Native Americans by killing women and children and taking their "Scalps", etc...A whole "Culture" was practically wiped out for what? Railroads, Settlers, "Progress"?? I remember the story about how General Custer allowed some high ranking Indians to a "Peace" talk under a flag of truce and were all hanged or killed. ALL the alleged "Peace" Treaties were violated by our Government and Military.
      In other countries like Japan, the natives who are special or significant are given protected status as living historical landmarks.....PEACE !

      Hunting in this form does keep the balance in a good place. There is a lot of research to determine how many can be harvested, and nor over harvested.
      To be in close proximity to something so big and lethal, would be communing at the apex.
      I hope you back up your position with money. The revenue for hunts such as this, do more to ensure wildlife thrive, than the hot air you put out. Bad for the ozone too.

I took some grief from my fellow hunters over not taking that shot I felt and still feel that is a one lung shot and I didn't want to take the risk of wounding that Bear. As hunters we all have our reason for why we hunt For me there has to be some honor in harvesting my game. A one lung shot would have meant a follow up rifle shot or a slow death and that bear did not deserve to die like that. When we left the bear that stood up was still alive

    After all the debating of whether you HAVE to do this, there is still the fact that you choose to, which is disconcerting enough. I have a strong feeling you would still be out there freezing your ass off in a tree even if you could get organic bear meat because ultimately all the reasons hunters give for hunting: pop control, organic, food chain, etc are just excuses to justify their lack of a moral compass. You just like hunting because it's fun. I get it, you go out, it's an adventure, you get to roam around, it does sound like fun. But unfortunately you are harming something capable of experience in the process of that fun. So as a result you have to find some means of justification to yourself and other so you can continue with your fun. It's the exact same line of illogic that goes into justifying meat eating in general. I think you should try just camping, or do just what you're doing now except shoot the animals with a camera not a gun. Let me know which parts of this don't make sense, or more likely just ignore it because you absolutely can and it will be much easier for you.

    • @sgtsnakeeyes11
      @sgtsnakeeyes11 10 лет назад

      So it's the age old "it's only nature" argument. I never understood why this was such a popular argument as it can't even be illusively or semantically construed as logical. Animals aren't capable of understanding the results of their actions. They are no more to be blamed for their actions as a hurricane is. I'll try to be very brief here: If a bear is protecting its cubs, that isn't morality, it's instinct. Morality is born from the understanding that other things are capable of experience similar to our own and that can only happen through intelligence. Ultimately it all comes down to experience and when we should observe this in other creatures. No one would argue that a human should be subjected to suffering because we know first hand that it's very capable of experience. The question is where do we draw the line? It's a very hard problem with no definitive answer but I think it's abundantly clear that animals are well within that range. Thanks.

    I'm not sure how I feel about archery brown bear hunts. This guy appears to be a true sportsman, not taking the first shot and waiting for the best opportunity for a true killing shot which he took with skill. This particular bow hunt went off well, probably due to the hunter and guide's diligence. While he doesn't state how far the bear ran after being shot, I'm willing to bet it wasn't very far.
    There are so many videos of guys pegging an arrow into a bear only for the guide to kill it with a rifle, making the first shot with a bow nothing more than torture. That kind of thing makes me sick. Seems a little too risky to me. I think if you're going to take a bear, make sure it is done cleanly and quickly, with a powerful gun. This video is proof that it CAN be done ethically with a bow, but I feel this video showcases an exceptional hunt.

    • @LivetheWildLifeTV
      @LivetheWildLifeTV  8 лет назад +6

      Yes I did. Although I differ on the sucker punch part. At 5 yards that bear can rip me to shreds before it dies. I can sugar coat what I did and say that Fish and Wildlife agencies determine how many bears need to be removed to maintain the food supply and health of the whole bear population. Or that larger boars will kill cubs so that the sows will come back into estrous and will breed again. Hell I can go on with more reasons that this is necessary but the truth is this was a rite of passage for me. To take down the largest land predator with my bow on my terms. It's dangerous, exhilarating and what man has been doing since the beginning of time. Sorry you can't understand that. Enjoy your kale. Peace

    • @LivetheWildLifeTV
      @LivetheWildLifeTV  8 лет назад +8

      I understand, but see if you can wrap your head around this. A big misconception is that the Fish and Wildlife agencies are supported solely by tax dollars that are collected from the general public. They are funded by sportsman who pay for licenses and are taxed on the hunting and shooting products they buy. The Pittman-Robertson Act which is also known as the Federal Restoration act became law in 1937. The revenue generated from the excise tax is apportioned to state wildlife agencies for conservation efforts. That hunt cost me close to $20,000.00 and part of that money funds the agencies that protect the wildlife from poaching and uphold the game laws. So although I understand your concern for the death of this bear understand that it is very regulated and does provide some benefit for the total population of bear.

      Really? Normally I don't really dislike hunting, but this was just unnecessary, was no reason to kill that bear, he was just trying to catch some fish and live his life.

    That's what I am talking about. Good clean harvest of a great brown bear. The nay sayers will always troll the heck out of these videos and it's best not to give into their stupidity. Don't feed them, just thank their opinion and when one comes into their backyard and eats their precious little poodle while they are eating their broccoli and all they have is the Internet to hide behind they will sing a different tune. Predator control is mandated by Congress and game laws....you know those things your ancestors probably fought and died for?? I myself applaud you on a ethical hunt and wish you the best...and for those trolls...well broccoli screams when you rip it from the ground...peace

    And you know this because you have spent time in the Alaska bush right? Think about it, a plane drops you off on a remote lake. You are living in a tent for 2 weeks with bears all over the area. No showers, no toilet, eating freeze dried food, it rains constantly so you are never really dry. Then make a shot with a bow on an animal that can kill you. Easy right

      Says trophy hunting is disgusting.....so I guess we all should just go out and kill the yearlings.....oh wait. That's illegal in many states. Funny how people who know nothing of hunting think harvesting a trophy is an everyday occurrence. Most guys (not the ones on the TV "canned" hunt shows on private ground manicured for optimum deer growth) are lucky to see a real trophy buck in their lifetime while hunting...and as I'm sure you know...getting a shot is even harder. Would love to put Shave Classy in a climber, 25' up while it's snowing and a 25 MPH (and the lovely wind chill associated with it) wind for 5 hours. :)
