BC hunter here. I fully grasp the gravity of this moment. Cant for the life of me understand the paradox of bowhunting with bait? A spot and stalk hunt is the pinnacle of hunting. Leads to some of the most amazing experiences you can have outdoors. Because of it leading to moments like this. Bowhunting which requires more skill than hunting with a rifle is like showing off. Tip of the cap to bow hunters , that is taking spot and stalk to the highest level. Bow hunting with a bait barrel is like completely missing the point. Definitely no shortage of bears in this area. Soldier on young fella but try bear hunting without the barrel its more fun.
Fully agree with your dislike of bait hunting, I wonder if this bait hunter uses a salt lick for Deer... The only time I use bait is in my Mouse Trap...
Some countrys its illegal to hunt with bait, for example here in finland, hunting wiht bait isnt even considered hunting here and you can get a fine or jail time hunting with bait.
IAD Fishing hunting has been going on as long as humans have been around. There is a distinction between man and animals that is profound and important. Those who are farthest from the natural world have the most extreme attitudes towards the protection of animals. It is ironic that many people who have these extreme ideas of protecting animals have no problem with aborting a human baby. Hunters have the most respect for wild animals because they want them to be around for future hunts. Wish more people respected human life to love and respect the unborn babies that are treated like bio waste.
@@sheldonberg125 I have a problem with aborting human babies, I also like the hunt as a mean to eat. I even respect hunting for sport if it's respectful and not harmful to the wild life of the area. But I have a problem with western adrenaline addicts hunting wild animals at point-blank range without even trying to surprise them when they're obviously accustomed to human interaction. It's morally questionable. I eat meat everyday. Did you get my point ?

@@bearhuntingmagazine Its not about that. I work in the forest, for the forest (in wildfire management though, not wildlife but we work closely together). What made me dislike your video (and keep in mind, it randomly appeared in my feed, Im not aware of the controversy). Is the cheap shot you took. It seems that this would have been a great occasion to have mutual respect. The bear showed you respect by leaving you alone when it could have killed you (most likely) easely. It seems like the good guy thing to do would have been to spare his life during that moment. Don't be fool enough to believe that everyone disliking your video are suburban morons who don't understand anything about conservation. Disliking your video isn't an attack either, its a simple expression of dislike. As far as you personally, I don't know you, so it can't be personal.
@@bearhuntingmagazine Yeah, well I'll admit I don't know anything about shot placement on a bear. It looked like the shot were taken carelessly but Im glad to be wrong on that.
@@HoboTango I think the bear came too close to the hunters, it had no respect from humans. Next time it could attack people. So I think the hunters shouldn’t have spared its life and they did a good work, such animals must be shot.
Qwert BM yeah that’s to be expected there’s always way more prey than predators but the grizzly and black bear conservation status is least concern so they’re not at risk of extinction or anything
It's true though. Everyone in this video should be ashamed of themselves. I've done a bit of bear hunting myself. Bear baiting is unsportsmanlike, it teaches bears that human stuff means food means survival. And, it's not even hunting to just walk to a giant barrel of food that you left out and sit around for a bit. Trophy hunting is unsportsmanlike, in nature the weak, old, and sickly are killed, to do anything but that promotes weak and sickly populations. Killing big boar bears is in no way good ecologically, what is he even talking about with bear populations at all being related to moose and caribou populations? They kill off some calves in the spring, but bears and especially black bears just aren't realistically predators of large mammals. And, having predators for large mammals doesn't hurt populations of game, it holds them in moderation instead of boom-bust as they decimate vegetation and then run out of food and die off in mass on a cycle a couple of decades long. Learn your ecology. Be a moral sportsman. This guy is gross.
@@Jangers-i4s I have zero doubt that "this guy" knows tremendously more than you do about game animals, ecology and bears. I'll take his word over someone who has hunted bears "a bit", which I doubt is true.

It didn’t, bears usually come and investigate than almost immediately come back to see if your edible and they will either take a chunk out of you or attack harder. He would’ve mostly likely been attacked anyway

Many hunters and non hunters say bears aren't joke so it is better to have a big gun while you go to forest even for not hunting... They are agressive animals and see numans as a competitor...
allonzo10586 that’s not actually true. Black bears are generally very skittish and will normally run from humans unless they are surprised by them and have Cubs. Brown bears aren’t as afraid of humans but will typically avoid them if they know they are around, that’s why it’s recommended when walking through bear territory that you talk loudly and regularly to let them know you’re there. If you do confront one often they will investigate you to determine if you’re a threat. If they don’t consider you one they will leave, if they do decide your a threat they will attack you on the spot. Bear attacks are rare, because they generally avoid humans, and even when you do encounter one as long as you act appropriately they will more then likely leave. If it’s a black bear you want to try and scare it off, as there very skittish. If it’s brown you want to do the exact opposite, remain calm, talk in a very monotone voice, and slowly back away.
13:22 That lake is gorgeous! Amazingly clean. Which lake system was this? Cus I've been on the Bowron Lakes canoe/kayak circuit, and we saw a lot of cool wildlife. Moose, cool birds we don't see in the PNW of the US, and 2 black bears I think. Gorgeous up there, and the lakes are just as beautiful, since most people are smart and pack out their trash. Sure some lakes had more algae than others, but all of them were super clear. At one point, I think we could see maybe 30 ft down. Grabbed some rocks to tie up to try to measure how far down we could see and how deep the lake was. We ran out of my 100 yd rope before it hit the bottom, but we guessed about 30 ft is when the rock went out of sight. Then again, makes sense those lakes are clean. They are extremely far from major civilization, about 400 miles from the nearest kinda big city.
That sounds wonderful, I just wanted to let you know that "clean" lakes are somewhat dead. If the water is really clear, there is much less life in the body of water than there potentially could be. Algae and weeds are good; it feeds the fish, breeds life. Clear water is perfect for people to swim in though :)

Keep your no choice bullshit, he made that choice when he went hunting bears with a puny bow! As for hitchhikers, they have no right nor need to go into bear-territory.

@@Kylehikes47 +
IAD Fishing hunting has been going on as long as humans have been around. There is a distinction between man and animals that is profound and important. Those who are farthest from the natural world have the most extreme attitudes towards the protection of animals. It is ironic that many people who have these extreme ideas of protecting animals have no problem with aborting a human baby. Hunters have the most respect for wild animals because they want them to be around for future hunts. Wish more people respected human life to love and respect the unborn babies that are treated like bio waste.
@@sheldonberg125 very well said!!

Cause the population difference. There's about 30 million deer but only like 500,000 to 1 mil bears left in the US
Qwert BM yeah that’s to be expected there’s always way more prey than predators but the grizzly and black bear conservation status is least concern so they’re not at risk of extinction or anything

What episode?

Google "bear bluffing." Grizzly bears and even black bears do a thing called "bluffing" where they act passive and friendly right before attacking. You need to either kill or it scare it off with bear pepper spray or loud yelling and posturing. Stop trying to rebuke those who have experienced things you will never encounter.

allonzo10586 that’s not actually true.

That lake is gorgeous!
