Sorry all, no "Back to the Future" or "The Goonies" but still some iconic titles playing here include:
National Lampoon's European Vacation
Weird Science
Real Genius
Cocoon
Rambo: First Blood Part II
Gremlins
The Gremlins re-release and Rambo II seem to be the hot ticket in this fuzzy little video.
This one last around 4 minutes or so.

So true
Gremlins, but I mostly agree.

Sadly true, what happened?
Let's go see Rambo! Then Gremlins. Real genius. Weird Science. And then European vacation! These people... they really had no clue how good they had it. They took it for granted.
And Cocoon
Yup... golden age of cinema (and music too) was then all the way to basically 2000 and maybe very early 2000's.
I need a flux capacitor to go back, now!
I got a DeLorean and a flux capacitor! I'm having problems finding some plutonium!
Every store clerk/manager looks at me like I'm crazy when I ask if they have any. 🤨😝
Hands down my favorite movie ( esp. the first one, but all three are great! )
Next are Trading Places and Coming to America ( have to watch Trading Places first to appreciate the cameo by Randolph and Mortimer in Coming to America 😄).
What About The Black Cauldron?
@@georgehenderson7783 Lets go! First one is great, as well as the others. I agree!
Admittedly embarrassing story.
I had worked at an auto parts chain (knew nothing about cars - they hired anyone with a pulse, while hadn’t seen much Back to the Future).
Someone had called looking for that flux capacitor for a 1985 Delorean. I went bonkers for several minutes trying to find listing…Eventually another employee became aware and said something wise to / hung up on whomever called.
Disney’s Very First Animated Movie Who Gave A PG Rating For All Ages.
I'm unsure who archived all this footage, but...thank you. History deserves to be preserved as such.
I just wish they uploaded this in a higher resolution because RUclips hates 480p and they would degrade the quality.
Plus this would be in 60fps if the person that did the transfer took de-interlacing seriously.
I actually miss coming up to a theater and seeing the lines at the box office. Feeling the hype and energy. Now I go to my local theater, which sits in this really nice mall-plaza round, but it's just void and liminal. The box office is abandoned, because everyone just scans their debit card at a kiosk, or order online. I think you have to go to the customer service desk to get a physical ticket.
Just one of those "sign of the times" type things. Conveniences at the expense of culture. Same thing with Blockbuster. Who doesn't miss the experience of wandering the isles, buying microwave popcorn and candy, and that fragrance of VHS abundance?
Im 35 and already sound like an old timer saying 'back in my day', but these days are very different, and to honest, i hate them in so many ways. I despise smart phone and refuse to ever have one myself. The world was a much better place before smart phones alone. Before Netflix and all that crap when there was more excitement about going to see a film at the cinema or going to the movie store with your friends on a Friday night. Now everything is instant... no waiting, but also no real excitement or ceremonial build-up, if that makes sense..
The 80s were such a magical time for films! It was pure fun, and the world was better. Was it perfect? Certainly no, but we were still able to be in the moment. We "lived" life. Yep, I would go back just to watch people and remember how lucky we were before social media!
Weird Science is a highly underrated 80's flick. Anthony Michael Hall slays in that movie, and Bill Pullman as Chet was perfect 80's camp. And, of course, Kelly LeBrock stole our hearts.
There's some heavy hitters in the theatres at this particular moment in time
Most definitely!

Thanks for this! I was born in September 1973, so, I was turning 12 in 1985. "Back To The Future" and so many other good movies came out that year. Six dollar movies and 90 cents a gallon gas. 🤗
Movie tickets even under $6 were certainly common, but 90 cent gas went out in the 1970s.
$6 Movies actually are still available at Emagine Theatres in the Upper Midwest for most pre-matinee movies. All-Day on a Tuesday and you even get a small popcorn too. So I guess it's true what they say, the real money's in the concessions not ticket sales.
Gas was 90 cents in the 90s.
@@DJTexan I remember paying anywhere from 90 cents up to a dollar and ten cents per gallon of gas. You could actually run around all day with just pocket change, including snacks. 🤗🛵💨 It seems so unimaginable now.
Oh my god I miss the days before smart phones and Netflix!!!!!!!
I wasn't born until '87, but it's cool to see what going to the movies or what life was like back in the 80's.
Same!
1985 was certainly an iconic year for movies as was the year prior.
In the Summer of 1985, I returned to the States after a two-year tour in Germany, all the buzz was about Rambo and seeing it was my first order of business. I arrived at the theater late with the movie already in progress, so I decided to see something else instead and picked Back to the Future based on the movie poster alone since I had never heard of it. I can't recall when I finally saw Rambo but saw Back to the Future multiple times that year!
I can't choose which. So many good movies!
Awesome movie lineup compared to the crap we have to pick from today.
99% garbage sound about right? The only films I can think of that ive liked in the past decade or so is Top Gun Maverick and Old Henry.
I See posters there for some of the greatest films of all time. I was too young to see Rambo 2 at that time but I remember the huge billboard posters here in the Uk. I remember seeing that and Weird science on cable tv shortly after though. Great times , great memories. How things have changed. Wish I was back in the 80’s now.
Movies I saw at the theater in 1985. Rocky 4, Back to the Future, Teenwolf, The Best of Times, European Vacation, The Goonies, Godzilla 1985
What a time to be alive. My 11 year old self saw all those as well
Another amazing time capsule. Thank you for sharing these.
Glad you like them 😀
$6.00 back then equals $17.00 in today's money!
6$ is expensive for 85.
It is ny so that makes sense.
Quite the lineup of movies. Cant get more 80's than those films.
I was a junior in high school and saw all of these films at the theater.
If you think about it, movie tickets today are under $20 and tickets to be charged for $6 in 1985 is not such a huge price gap nearly 40 years ago.
in mid to late 90s my local theatre only charged 1.50 and 3 dollars for movies after 6pm. Small town.
Where I lived at that time there was an old single screen movie theater near me that showed $1 movies into the 1990s. Then it became a porn theater for a short time and finally a live concert venue, which it still is today. I hate to say it, but I never watched a movie there. I could have certainly afforded it, but I found it more convenient just to watch the same movies on HBO or Showtime.
"Murdock! I'm comin' to get you!" That scene is the one to remember especially when Rambo gunned down his office and pulled the knife on him. Lol! I wish I was there to see it in the theatre along with Rocky IV, Commando, Back To The Future, The Last Dragon, To Live And Die In L.A. So many good ones that year.
dang i was only 1 year old. would be an absolute dream to see Rambo and the Terminator in theatre. :D
"So, what would you little maniacs like to do first?"
Thanks 4 the digital time travel back to 1985! That was a great era!!
Man,to be able to go back!
Oh god....the amount of movies to choose....all great ones....Oooh Mask, I heard it was an emotional movie, cheerful but also sad, and Cher's in it too
It was a pretty good movie, would have been better without Cher I think.
Can't go wrong with Sam Elliott
I saw Rambo in the theatre and then we waited to watch the next showing and no one cared. The guy came and cleaned while my friend and I ran around playing Rambo

Cocoon was massive also, a great watch @@MaxZomboni
@@HypeIsHereMedia I never saw it, but it doesn't surprise me. In the 80s you couldn't watch a bad movie or listen to bad song. Virtually everything was great.
@@MaxZomboni Howard the Duck was considered a bad film when it came out in 1986 and it's still bad now, but to be honest it's bad in an appealing sort of way, so bad it's almost good. It's not atrocious like many movies today are, even terrible films in the 80's had their charm. And then there are the many films that were panned when they came out in the 80's but gained a cult following decades later, like Carpenter's The Thing.

I wonder if this was a re-release for Gremlins since it originally came out in Summer of ‘84.
Was re-released from what I have read, while “We’re Back” on poster likely a formal revision from earlier that showed just hands of Gizmo peering from gift box.
@@Metsfan7232 ah, makes sense! In summer of ‘86 it made its cable debut on HBO. I suppose that was common practice then. It was just around the time when home video was making a turn around.
@@Metsfan7232 I didn’t realize that until you mentioned we’re back. I think on the VHS it said we’re here or something like that. Subsequently on future home releases past the original dvd the original poster art was never to be seen again.
It was the rerelease poster from December of 84, but back then certain movies (at certain theaters) would stick around for a while. Gremlins had kid appeal so that's why it stuck around... and its why I was able to see it a total of 13 times before it hit video.

Exactly how are local mall theatres looked with these familiar movie posters of childhood. It was such a magical feeling of being a child then going to the movies. I was thinking $6 was expensive, considering that's how much it cost just 20 years ago when I was first going to movies with friends. I figured this was NYC but didn't make that connection. Yeah everything's way more expensive there, haha
