Thanks for the comparison, most of the others are comparing the older Tamron, nice seeing the G2 is so sharp, I just got it and was wondering how these would compare.
Glad it was helpful! I too, thought that this was the defacto comparison to make, and unfortunately I don’t get first dibs like bigger channels, so it took me a while to get hands on.
I've watched this video 5 times already an I'm still not convinced which one is best for video on a gimbal. I'm more inclined for the Tamron just because it doesn't have so much distortion and vinieting
Fair and honest review - much appreciated! I think a lot of people are deciding between these two. Do you need the weather sealing + extra button of the Tamron, or do you prefer the size + extra $100 of the Sigma? Having owned the V1-Tamron since it was released, I never quite liked the size and hand-feel. However I’d love if they updated the 17-28 with the new features!
So I have the original Tamron 28-75mm G1. Aside from not being a fan of the insane lens flaring in directly sunlight, I was never extremely happy with any of the shots I got with that lens. They were fine and it was definitely a better option than the GMaster price wise, but I felt like it lacked a litlle... magic? I don't know how to articulate that more clearly.
I came here for one purpose, see which one is better for video, I already have 14, 28,55,85, and 90 (macro) primes for photos but wanted a zoom for video. Sigma it is, thank you for the review.
I bought the sigma before knowing random was an option. I love the photo quality and have noticed it’s pretty perfect for street photography and even decent at macro for subjects like flowers and eyes. I will say the tamron seems sharper however I will say if you’re careful or primarily shoot on a tripod the sigma is razor sharp. All your photos will come out sharp but if you want the same level as the tamron you can get it you just have to set up for it I think.
Sigma is great. except one shortcome, the image quality around minimal focus distance (which you did not test). I do a lot food photography. I notice it immediately the first time I use it for a shoot. It is softer and quite noticable. That is the reason I sold it and bought tamron. But honestly I like everything else better from sigma. Smaller, lighter and zoom ring has better feel.
Good job and interesting comparison! FYI, I found your sound levels a little low in the studio shots. It was noticeably different than in the comparison portion. A happy and healthy 2022 to you and your long suffering wife!
really very useful video, I bought the sigma used on amazon and it looks really great to me, my only problem is that every so often as you said you lose focus too, you say we both had a faulty model? because I am thinking of making the return
I think that's just the nature of sigma, even the 24-70 had that issue. I think the correction is to turn down the responsiveness and the locking of the AF, and then it'll behave better.
@Guy With Camera can you tell me how the lens behaves when manually focusing? does the focus ring have a linear input like on manual glasses or does it depend on the rotation speed?
During the part of comparison, you put Tamron on the right side. But on the chart, you put Tamron on the left side. Not a big deal. But it should be perfect for the professional RUclipsr. I am your fan.
Haha what a joker! - as my father would say. The little jokes thrown in made this more entertaining. Thanks for the video, it helped me decide that I want the Tamron over the Sigma.
Thank you for the comparison! Exactly what I looking for. But did you compare the video autofocus of this lenses to native Sony lenses? As I understand the native still faster in video
Hi, I’ve now watched this video 4 times, I’ve just sold my Sony 24-105mm f/4, I was going to purchase the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Art “but” now there’s a new kid on the block the Samyang/Rokinon 24-70mm f/2.8. Do you have any plans on doing a comparison between the Sigma and Samyang? Please help me out, Regards William
if samyang sends me a lens, but they've been flakey in all honesty, other than that, I have no way of acquiring their lenses other than to outright buy it..... only if that made any sense 😆
Hi, I noticed the sigma on wide static shots in video can randomly go out of focus as well! It’s so annoying. Any idea on why that is happening or how to fix it? I thought it was an issue with the FX3 but seems it is the lens
I'm using a7c and want a compact size lens. So I'm going to buy a sigma. But I'm worried about the anti-spinning part. I'm going to take pictures in clubs and mountains. How about comparing the anti-spinning part to Tamron? And would you still recommend a sigma?
@@오뜨-h9x on the first question, I'm confused of the "anti spinning", but overall, I can recommend the sigma, a fantastic lens, still have it, dont use it as often because of so many other lenses I have, but the sigma is solid. The holster I have is custom made, I made it myself using kydex, which is commonly used in the gun industry. You can research about kydex diy stuff, and it's quite simple and works very well. That said, I do use a slightly different hoster style setup these days, but it's still a holster 😁
@@CharlieVN That's really cool💯💯Unfortunately, I can't get it because this is Korea. I need to look for a replacement. I was talking about waterproofing. Sigma was worried because I heard that sealing is weaker than Tamron. I need protection from liquid and dust because I'm thinking of shooting photos and documentaries at techno clubs and mountains. I'll go to Sigma as you recommend. Thank you so much :)
pretty much all my sharpness tests are with the A7iii, most people use a 24mp camera of some sort, appeals to most. moving on, I will be moving tests to 33mp to match the A7iv. 70-200ii, tamron 70-180, 35-150 comparisons will probably start next month? trying to finish up A7iv content before moving back to lens comparisons, still have a few outstanding
@@CharlieVN oh cool thanks ! so there still is a noticeable difference bw the two, even without an a7R. I think Tamron will have my money, but I just hesitate bc of the creamier sigma bokeh haha
Sigma ticks all the boxes for me But im just really really like super concerned about its autofocus performance 🥲🥲 i wanna use it mainly for video and pair it with a7c or zv-e1 What do you think? I was terrified when i saw it losing focus
@@savnac I strictly used it at 2.8, if you are just uploading your photos online the sharpness is perfectly fine at 70mm , I got some very beautiful sharp portraits from it even at 70 so its just fine. If you are like printing these photos and stuff then thats a tad more questionable but its a fantastic lense, ill gladly trade off that tiny bit of sharpness at 70mm for the tiny lightweight body, its lovely to carry around

Thank you for this review! Had a hard time finding the G2 compared to the Sigma instead of the older G1 until I found this
Glad I could help!
me too nice..
Excellent video between those two of lenses. I bought the Tamron because its better weather sealed and sharpness.

Great review, thank you.
The Tamron 28-75 G2 is now my favorite all around lense. custom button for eye auto focus makes critical focus easy
Thumbs up for the humour. I'm leaning towards the Sigma too. More manageable size increases the chances of me carrying it and using it.

Have you fallen in love with either of these new lenses?
the FASTER FOCUS IS WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR EVENTHOUGHT JUST A LITTLE MORE THAT CAN BE MAKING THE SHOT IN FAST ACTION
THANK YOU... IVE BEEN WAITING FOR SOO LONG FOR THIS COMPERO
Great video mate. Same here I chose the sigma due to its size.
such a subtle issue that can make a noticeable difference in practice.
@@CharlieVN I agree, I sold my 24-70GM for this small but sharper than the GM, very convinient especially when mounted on a gimbal.

I love your dead pan humor. Great in depth comparison GWC.
Question if I may? Which leg bag did you say the Sony with 28-70mm Sigma fits in?
think tank digital holster 5 is a snug fit
Greatly informative and having fun with it as always loved the reviews

you referring to the wide or telephoto end? I typically use the wide due to higher magnification ratio, can’t say I’ve used 70mm much for that.
Did the tamron do much better for close focus wide open?
For food and product shots it’s always F4 and above. You mean stopping down didn’t improve the shots at all?
Really well done comparison. It answered a lot of questions I had. Thank you!

Does it have parfocal for l mount ? I want to buy this with lumix s5
Cool video - Can I program the button on the lens to turn auto-focus on and off?
yes, technically, any focus hold button can do this.
Did you make video comparing Tamron 28-75 f2.8 G2 vs Sigma DG DN 24-70 f2.8 Art Lens? I love to see it. Thanks.

indeed it is the lens, it behaves like old school panasonic 😒
Is the tamron more confident at weather sealing with this usb port?
probably? Androids have been using waterproof usb c ports for years now. The little usb cover I got is silicone and fits snuggly

Love the sigma's size but the sharpness is unacceptable, like a kitlens

sigma’s focus is awesome and also the image quality is superb.. try watching other reviews of sigma they explain it better
I prefer tamron
Tamron is older should be able to get it cheaper than sigma
it’s actually newer, this is the second generation
