I’m not sure I should do such a video? There are many videos that show the basic tools beginners will need and I think if I did the video mine wouldn’t be much different. The tool videos I produce are to show the tools in great detail because when you go to buy them, there is not much info on the websites and when you find videos they can be quite short. As you know all watchmaking tools are very expensive so my aim is to show them in detail so people can make an informed decision about the purchase. I certainly don’t rule such a video out, however I do have few tools here I’m planning to make videos of so if I make the video it would be a while. For your information, most of my tools are by Bergeon, some are by Horotec. No doubt some of the cheap tools will be good but it’s trial and error and I prefer buying tools I can rely on.
Thank you Leo. Suddenly the light came on! For the past four years I’ve purchased many vintage wood planes along with other wood tools all of which require regular ‘blade’ sharpening in this exact same way, only ten times bigger! I totally agree that you only get what you pay for. Needless to say I’m pretty good at it after four years with the angles, oils, stones (diamond block), and cutting each side of the blade equally … I guess it’s time to down-size to miniature screwdrivers! Many thanks again for the great content.
Now you’re telling me! I wish I thought of the banana. I use Q-tips for small tools to give everyone a good idea of the size. Next time! 👍Thanks for the tip
@@MacroTime28800 no worries, relax. I also watch Stian at Vintage Watch Services and Jo at Nekkid Watchmaker and they both put humour in, no harm😉. I’ve just received a new spring for an AS1187, so got that job this weekend!
...there's also a stone to flatten the stone...if I remember correctly...because with time the stone will be unevenly excavated by the blades and has to be re-flattened
If you can come across it at some point, could you send me the link? I thought I’d have to use all four sides over time and then eventually buy a new stone but if there is one to flatten it, that would be great 👍
@@MacroTime28800 ...this vid is actually about razor blade sharpening (a form of art 😃) but the concept is the same. towards the end of the vid geo shows how to flatten the stones with a special stone...best
I sharpen my knives razer sharp using two stones standing up V shape and the angles can be adjusted, different grits, ending up mirror polished 👍 Could you send me a link to the video so I can see how they are flattened?
Because my brain can't do 90 degrees, I use a 6cm cube of hardwood with suitable diameter hole drilled through the centre ( with a bench press ) to do the tip dressing.
I would like the Horotec sharpener but that’s for parallel blades which I don’t have and the sharpener is expensive. It’s a nice sharpener though: www.cousinsuk.com/product/screwdriver-sharpener-tool-horotec
Great video! I would love to see a video on your opinion on all the basic tools needed to start this journey.

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it. It is a very important tool if you want to avoid slipping and keep the screw slots looking like new 👍
Love your video! Thank you! But where is the banana for scale?

@@MacroTime28800 no, no, thank you for the Q tip 😁
Great info Leo. I found cleaning it with my toothbrush left a nasty taste in my mouth so now I use the wife's!
😄If you ever get the opportunity, try cleaning it with your mother-in-law’s toothbrush 👍
Iron smile
Nice one Leo! Always very informative. I was waiting for you to joke about who’s toothbrush you use🤣
I missed out there. I always get so serious when I talk to the microphone. Next time 👍

Nothing better when parts and tools arrive in time just for the weekend, have fun and enjoy!

Got it, thank you. Flattening stone, he said it was made by Norton. The stone for this sharpener is also made by Norton 👍
