Ronnie had one of the most distinctive voices. Her voice could sound tough then tender and always had the trademark vibrato sound in there. Been less than a month since Ronnie passed but it's her voice that will remain in the memories of many. RIP Ronnie Spector ❤️
So sad to know Ms. Ronnie passed away.
always had a crush on her.....
@@brianbyczek3042 She was seriously cute
Don't know who came first, but Ronnie's voice reminds me of Brenda Lee's in her early recording days. Like "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" and "I'm Sorry."
Ronnie sang this as a back up in Eddy Money’s “Take Me Home Tonight”. She makes the song!
The official video for that song is great. Loved the way they brought Ronnie out little by little. She did make the song. So sad that she has passed.
She is the only reason I listen to that song.
The absolute best quote in any rock song is Ronnie singing "be my little baby" in Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight" which was his idea to have Ronnie sing the line and appear in the video. She was so awesome!
@@douggaijin same with ME!!
Music doesn't get any better than this. These were beautiful, classy, talented ladies. Their music was awesome, and Ronnie Specter was great.
Veronica "Ronnie" Bennett (August 10, 1943 - January 12, 2022) was known professionally as Ronnie Spector. She was the lead singer of the girl group the Ronettes (aka, Ronnie & the Ronettes) with her sister, Estelle Bennett, and their cousin, Nedra Talley.
They were eventually signed to Phil Spector's Philles label and he produced the majority of their recordings. They had a string of hits in the 1960s.
In 1980, she released her debut solo album and her career revived when she was featured on Eddie Money's song "Take Me Home Tonight" in 1986 (you can easily hear Ronnie singing "Be my little baby" in that song).
Some of the Ronettes other big hits include: "Baby, I Love You"; "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up"; "Do I Love You?"; "Walking in the Rain"; "I Can Hear Music"; "You Came, You Saw, You Conquered".
OMG this is still wonderful after so many years. NEVER sounds old.
I love the Ronnettes. They were one of my favorite girls groups of the 60's. I was 15 when they came out with this hit!
This is another one of the fabulous girl groups from the early 60's. Phil Spector produced this group. He later married the lead singer Ronnie. They had some great hits including "Be My Baby", "Baby, I Love You", "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up" & "Walking In The Rain". Sadly we just lost Ronnie but she left a great legacy of her music.
Yeah Phil Spector he was a genius but a maniac scumbag who screwed them royally. They got jack while he made out like a bandit and to compound things held Ronnie practically prisoner in their home. What a shame. Another one of those groups back the day taken advantage of.
R.I.P Phil Spector ! Thé master !
Yeah, I have their CD, and I have listened of all those songs. I simply don't get tired of listening to them. Yes, sadly, Ronnie has left us...RIP.
Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys called this "the perfect pop song". The girls from Spanish Harlem!!! Ronnie Spector on lead vocal, RIP.
He plagiarized much of it in his song Don't Worry Baby, which he wrote after hearing this one.
They were from Washinton Heights.
@@eximusic he wrote that song FOR the Ronettes but Phil rejected it. Ronnie finally recorded it decades later and it moved him to tears.
Was so damn sad that she passed. RIP Ronnie
Cindy Lauper also copied her vocal style and runs in most of her hits in the 80's.
Saw the Ronnettes sing this live at a Beatles concert in Boston August of 1966. Awesome then…. Awesome now.
The lead is Ronnie Spector, who passed away just two weeks ago. Such an amazing song and group!
Omg!! Really!?😮😟
@@Alisha1686 Sadly, she passed on January 12 😔
@@Alisha1686 At the age of 78.
@@AJfanboy1 So sad 😞
@@Alisha1686, Apparently from a brief bout with cancer. 😥
I believe this was 1963. probably the best song on the radio. Beatles were still unknown & unheard, but this was clearly as good or better than what they had that year.
Very inaccurate info. This was released in August 1963. By that time The Beatles had already released 4 singles 3 of which had reached No 1 and 1 No 1 Album. The phrase Beatlemania was also first used in 1963. They were already the biggest musical attraction in the UK and most of Europe. That's not to detract from this song as it is one of my favourites and was also one of John Lennon's favourites as he always used to ask Ronnie to whisper it into his ear when they hung out together!
@@brianalmeida1964 The Beatles had been a band for years before this. At least with Harrison full time since early 1962. I didn't include the words "here in America" which was my meaning. Beatles didn't become known in America until December of 63. When CBS aired a special, they had finished by early November. It was scheduled to air on November 20th, but unfortunately that days' news events were overshadowed by the assassination of the president.
@@chrisjamieson3452 By the time the Beatles got off the plane in America they were already very well known in America. They were greeted by thousands. They came here because they were so popular. Elvis had been off the circuit since 1958 in the military, and the Beatles and other groups began filling the gaps. Elvis wasn't back on the circuit until 1964, but his star hadn't diminished at all even with the Beatles on the ascendancy.
The most amazing thing is when the Ronettes performed in England, the Beatles were their opening act. . .when the Beatles toured America the first time, the Ronettes were their opening act (sans Ronnie as Phil Spector didn't want her to go on the tour). . .
Loving that a new generation is discovering the greatest girl group of all time and the sassiest lead singer the world has ever known. I have loved The Ronettes since I was a boy in 1964 and that love has only grown stronger as I approach old age. I truly envy people hearing these classics for the first time. Great job guys.
What a Class Act these Ladies were loved listening to them when I was growing up. When I was in high school early 1960's we had NOON Dances Everyday and when Ronnie came up on the record player all the girls would line dance to this tune brings back some very good memories
Asia could not contain her fascination with Ronnie, and who could? I'd love for y'all to do either a karaoke bit, or a real vocal shake at this song. It think it was meant to be. :) Great show y'all.
Ronnie Spector....a beauty with a beautiful voice.
No twerks....no crotch grabs.....no simulated sex......real singing, real talent.....
All she had to say was “Be my baby”
Another one of my absolute favorites from my teen years Motown soul whatever you want to call it it was the rage and the music is perennial it holds up even today. God love you.
This is almost 60 years ago but even when you watch this video now, The Ronettes feel like the center of the fuckin world. They shine like gold
Got the thrilling pleasure of seeing Ronnie Specter perform live in 1975 or 76 at one of the Cleveland World Series of Rock concerts. Most of us were there for Todd Rundgren's Utopia or the heavier rock sounds of Nazareth and Aerosmith. But Aerosmith cancelled at the last minute and the legendary WMMS d.j., Kid Leo, introduced us to Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes in their place, who brought Ronnie because of a summer hit song. It was a total surprise that launched me (15 yrs old) and another, older guy behind me to our feet when they announced her. My mom had been a big fan of the "girl groups" like the Ronettes, the Crystals, the Shangri-las, so I was pretty much raised on those 45s spinning on the home record player. She was just stupendous and won the hearts of a lot of head-banging rockers.
Guys this is one of my favourite songs of all time. You have hears it if you watched the movie dirty dancing with the late Patrick suwayze ( not sure I split his last name right lol ), it was a classic film . Ronnie Spector & her ronnets was so big back in the day they were brilliant their music still brings joy today in 2022. Ladies were ladies & men were men back then 😃❤️🌷⚘️
I wasn’t born in the sixties and oddly drawn to this kind of music.
I have to say what 3 gorgeous singers and so stunning!
Whether you like this older music or not I personally feel most modern music today doesn’t even come close to what I have just heard.
Bless you Ronnie x
Asia’s smile says it all! I’ve always loved them! Thx y’all!
Asia's smile is exactly what this music does to all of us.... the music from this era is joyful.
Ronnie Spector is the lead singer and she just passed away last week. Her husband (Phil Specter) created the song and the "Wall of Sound" that influenced everyone. They were the predecessors for all the great pop/soul female groups that would be all over the radio in the early 60's. Unfortunately for many of these groups/bands of the early 60's the end would be soon near as a little band in Liverpool was about to explode on the scene and the world would never be the same!
Had a crush on her the first time I heard and saw her on radio and TV. RIP SWEET LADY 😋. I'll be 74 in February. N Y girls
In Eric Clapton's autobiography he describes how he was at a party in London and Ronnie Ronnette was there. He fell instantly in love with her, and was heartbroken when she left with... I wanna say Mick Jagger?? Oh to have been around in those days.
Such a great old song, love it! R.I.P. Ronnie Spector
Back when they were touring in Europe their opening act was The Rolling Stones. Also Ronnie was Amy Winehouse's idol hence the eye makeup and tall dark hair.
This Classic is from the Fall of '63, both before & after, 11/22. it's just not possible to come close to describing what it was like, hearing this, for the 1st time . it was pure, teenage, heaven. -----I had just turned 17, a senior in HS, & this wAS MY song ! RIP, Ronnie & Estelle.
“Stop in the Name of Love” was sung by Diana Ross and the Supremes…
Ronnie Spector, Lead Singer.. RIP..💞💞💞💞LOVED HER VOICE...😪😪😪😪😪😪😪
Keith Richards has the kindest words for Ronnie in his autobiography. I think he would have married her if Phil hadn't been there. Richards is the Rolling Stones lead guitarist. She was great talent RIP.
It would probably had been a lot better if Richards had married her. According to Ronnie, Phil was controlling, abusive and a real nut case. Some of the things he has been accused of could be called psychotic.
@@AJfanboy1 Phil Spector was a genius producer ,but like a lot of them flawed & as mad as a box of frogs .
The Ronettes was a unique song that dates back to the Brill Building Sound. Don Kirshner and Al Nevin had a group of different writers, competing against one another, and as a result alot of the same hits that started coming out of that building, all started sounding alike which was how the Brill Building Sound was born, back in the early 60s, before the recording industry moved out to the west coast.
I sang this as a lullaby to my children
Love you Ronnie!
The Ronnettes sang this at the Ed Sullivan Theater on the Ed Sullivan TV show. The late Glen Campbell played guitar 🎸. The late Ronnie Spector returmed there when she sang Take Me Home Tonight with the late Eddie Money 💰, an ex New York City cop 👮♂️.
The song inspired Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. He and the late Roger Christian wrote Don't Worry Baby. The modern rock band Garbage 🗑 sampled that song in the song Push It. Written by Garbage 🗑.
RIP Eddie Money, Ronnie Spector, Glen Campbell, Roger Christian and Ed Sullivan.
Still get chills hearing this… just turned 80 yesterday
Perfect observation Asia- Cute ! So choreographed and smooth- love the subtle dancing. This was a monster hit for them- Ronnie Spector, the lead singer just passed last year. She was soooo cute as you would say Asia.
Yes the GREAT incompatible Ronnie Spector, whom we just lost recently. A very super unique voice. Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys said Ronnie and this song were his favorites. Eddie Money wrote a song in the 1980s featuring Ronnie Take Me Home Tonight. He has a few verses where he says ,just like Ronnie sang, Be My Little Baby!
Amy Winehouse always said she was inspired by Ronnie Spector, when she died Ronnie did a cover of "Back in black" as a homage and now Ronnie is gone too...
Ashley, Lead vocalist Ronnie (Veronica) Bennett vocals, the "whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh", is a blend of two of the most successful singers of that era, Connie Francis and Brenda Lee. These ladies never wore wigs. "Be My Baby" was released in August 1963. In 1961, The Ronettes, the New York City girl group made up of Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett, her sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. By 1963, the trio caught the attention of producer Phil Spector, and moved to his Philles Records, expanding their sound with his famous “Wall of Sound” production technique. “Be My Baby” was recorded at Gold Star Studios in Hollywood, California on July 5, 1963 and released in August, 1963. They released only one studio album and broke up in 1967. The Bennetts' mother was a Black American and their father was Irish-American. Their cousin, NedraTalley, is Black American and Puerto Rican. In America during the time they were popular, they were a "Negro group". There was no social media so most white people didn't realize this. The group never denied their Black heritage, in fact they graced the cover of Ebony Magazine, the most important monthly magazine for Black people throughout the USA.
Ronnie Specter and the Ronnets icons! And you guys are having to much fun 😂.
Oh man they started doing that dance and I teared up. I miss the old simple days.
East Harlem represent, the one and only Ronnie Spector! R.I.P. Angel!
Hal Blaine, the great session drummer, inadvertently produced one of the most iconic drum beats at the beginning of this song when his stick got caught in something. Producer Phil Spector initially wanted a Doo Wop sound, but loved how Blaine’s beat sounded so it stayed. It’s more pronounced on the studio version.
Guys Ronnie Spector, lead singer only passed away the week before Meatloaf. She was 78. Classy, beautiful and they were fully clothed. Just shows women didn't have to be half baked on stage. It's all about the talent
ank you guys! this song is the KEY to Eddie Money's (and the Ronnettes) "Take ME HOME TONIGHT".
I remember watching this on the TV lol how old am I but I have to say this era was truly great
Love this! Great share, Asia and BJ!
RIP Ronnie Spector. She died a few weeks ago. Zendaya is going to star as her in a film biopic. Apparently Ronnie hand picked her for the role before she died. Zendaya paid tribute to her after she died. The song was in Dirty Dancing (amongst many other films). Her death really touched me. To think the Ronettes were formed in the 1950s and Ronnie was still performing until quite recently. Also, Amy Winehouse idolised her and emulated her style in her music. There are several videos of Ronnie Spector singing Amy's 'Back to Black' as a tribute to Amy after she died. You guys should react to that.
The producer who helped with arrangements was her then husband Phil Spector the man behind the wall of sound features behind many sixties groups including The Righteous Brothers. He also wrote this song for her and to her
My moms era of music 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 timeless
RIP Ronnie Spector
I always Loved Childlike innocents,Youthful excellent vocals!
Phil Spector wrote this song with Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich and from the start till the end you can feel their touch. Orchestration, choirs, choice of instruments...genious people on a musical point of view!
Notice Phil Spector's WALL OF SOUND background. Perfect setting for the gals' treble vocals.
You asked during the Eddie Money 'take me home tonight' song who is Ronnie when he sings the line "just like Ronnie sang". This is who he was referring to. Ronnie is the lead in the Ronnettes.......and also singing with him in his song take me home tonight.
That move that the girls did towards the end of "Be My Baby" was a dance called 'The Jerk'.
This time era had so extremly many unforgetible singers and vocal groups and songs that never will be forgotten . This sound is just amazing. And singers could actually sing for real. Say what!!!!!
Thank you guys! this song is the KEY to Eddie Money's (and the Ronnettes) "Take ME HOME TONIGHT".
The 60's were awesome. This song is legendary for coolness. Ronnie Spector's voice is classic. RIP Ronnie. Please watch Martha and the Vandellas "Dancing in the Street".
Ronnie Spector was a great singer underated in my opinion. Very good catchy song. Walking in the Rain may even be better. Her husband Phil Spector added greatness to the song with his Wall of Sound
One of the best record producers ever
Crazy as a paranoiac bedbug, but a great producer.
AS an old white guy this song brings back great memories. Veronica and the Ronettes were great.
Ronnie Spector was frigging amazing!
Beautiful and classy. I was seven years old when this hit the radio.
rip veronica bennette beautiful women beautiful voice
This song is in the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Ronettes are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One of my favorite Cha-Cha tunes.
Great early 60s music! 60s girl groups were the BEST!
Its super famous Ronnie Spector, singing one of the biggest hits of all time !
Please check out Eddie Money "Take Me Home Tonight" and Ronnie sings some of the lyrics from this song on that song. Check out the official music video. :)
Omg I love this song 🎵 😍! It's the beginning of my favorite movie (Dirty Dancing). Thank y'all and whoever requested it 💖 ❤ 💕
Beautiful reacction beautiful song ❤
Good choice! R.I.P Ronnie! Maybe you heard it in Dirty Dancing
Ronnie Spector, the greatest voice all time.
Ronnie Spector was the lead singer of the Ronettes. She died on January 12, 2022..
The song captured the essence of teenage love. Very powerful back then. It's sad to see these times in every generation come and go never to return.
Spector was a genius, nuts but a musical genius
I remember playing this 45 record over and over and over again. Brings back such fine memories.
Phil Spector was a very influential music producer in the 1960's and created the "Wall of Sound" style of instrumentation and tempo which so many of the girl groups sang to in the 60's
Ronnie was a combination of beauty, grace and talent, my first crush when I was a wee lad of 14 (when this song came out), if you get a chance to check out any of her interviews, she was funny, flirty and just incredible. . ."Stop in the Name of Love" was the Supremes. . .I am glad that you are discovering these old songs, have you checked out "The Locomotion" by Little Eva (1962) or "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" the Shirelles (1960). . ."Be my Baby" was the opening song in "Dirty Dancing"
Spector's Wall of Sound...Ronnie was a cutie. Brian Wilson said he was driving down the road when he first heard this on the radio and he had to pull the car over because he was so overwhelmed by the sound coming out of the speakers... : )
Watching your genuine reactions and facial expressions makes me soooo happy. You two are great...the music takes you away..
Ronnie Bennett------------Estelle Bennett, & cousin, Nedra Talley-----------this is a Phil Spector production , classic. REcorded at Gold Star Studio, here in LA, with The Wrecking Crew, a group of LA musicians who did everything IN THE 50'S, 60'S, & 70'S, HERE IN la.-----Composed by Jeff Barry, his wife Ellie Greenwish, & Phil Spector. Released in October of '63, this is a classic. ------MJL< 75 y/o
Lead Singer is Ronnie Spector - Amy Winehouse loved her and emulated her style. Ronnie did a great re-imagined cover or Amy's Song BACK TO BLACK which you should react to. Ronnie was married to mega-music-producer Phil Spector the creator of the signature WALL OF SOUND which was also very well reproduced by Mark Ronson, Amy's producer. #fullcirclemoment
I saw them in 1963 for the first time and once a few years later. Yes, they were charming onstage. But for us guys they were also exciting with their beehive hairdo's, tight sweaters and Hispanic looks. In truth neither Ronnie or her sister were Hispanic, but we didn't care. I was fortunate enough to see most of the great girl groups of that time including The Supremes, Martha and The Vandellas, The Marvelettes, The Shirelles, Patti LaBelle and The Bluebells, The Shangri-La's, and The Crystals. We miss you Ronnie.
The lead singer is Ronnie Spector, who passed away last week. She founded the group which consisted of her Sister and Cousin. Thanks for the video.
Asia and BJ, The Ronettes, the Beatles favorite group. Cheers, Chris Perry.
Phil Spector was also teaching a young Brian Wilson how to produce records at the time this song came out. Brian was allowed to copy the chords & rhythm to make his own Beach Boys song called "Don't Worry Baby", which was also a chart topper.
they do my most favorite 'frosty the snowman' ever
I love 50s and 60s music. Know what i just found out recently......she backed up Eddie money in Take Me Home Tonight. Singing be my little baby
This is one of the greatest single recordings of all time!
Love everything about Ronnie! RIP Ronnie! Always our baby!
Love this song ❤
There's another video of the Ronnettes performing this song at a live venue with back up dancers in the background and the audience is going bananas. You'll also hear the song in its entirety. That other group u got stuck on are The Supremes
The 1960s was the best era for pop music!
The people were the best as well.
GREAT MUSIC! - a BLAST from the past! I was a young kid when this came out.
1960-63-pre Beatles; what a beautiful lady and The LOVE SONG which was one of many in these 4 years; songs of joy and relaxed.
"STOP" is probably Diana Ross and the Supremes. They did that gesture when they performed live. The Ronettes success opened the door for girl groups like the Supremes.
There's some great videos of The Supremes performing on Ed Sulivan Show. Pretty good quality for back in 1960s.
I love all 60's music the girl groups back then were awesome Did you all ever hear of Connie Francis a big star in the 60's surprise few seem to react to her songs like Where the Boys are , Frankie, and Teddy , just to mention a few and she had many hits
A lot of the girl music in '62 especially was real big and introduced a new term to popular music, The Wall Of Sound
So great to hear that song.
I heard this song sometime in the seventies. I've been a fan ever since. Isn't she so cute?
Not sure how I missed this video .. Ronnie Bennett , Estelle Bennett and their cousin Nedra Tally were the 3 lovely ladies. These ladies dated different members of the Rolling Stones on their tour in the UK supporting the Stones
