This is from the movie “Twist around the clock”. Everyone in that room was an actor except Dion. The guys behind him are not even singing or playing instruments. Obviously it was lip synched for the movie. The Del Satins backed Dion on most of his solo hits. Dion left the Belmonts in 1960. This song was recorded mid 1961

*Yes Asia...this is a movie from the early 60s, from the 1961 movie "Twist Around the Clock," about the time I was born (1962). And remember, it is less than ten years since Rock-n-Roll was born so the audience in this club are supposed to act as though they've never heard this sort of music before...and have no idea what to do with it.*

Back in the 50,s and early 60,s, You had different classes of Dinner and Dance clubs. The higher class it was the more reserved the people were. They would call it civilized. Others would call it boring. Me personally I wouldn't mind a show without screaming, yelling and people jumping all over the place once in awhile. But I also like a Jam party. Just depends on the mood.

This was 1961, nearing the end of the Doo Wop era (roughly 1955-1963-ish). Classic song. Fun fact. Released around the same time as this song was Dion's "The Wanderer" in which the tables are turned on who the unfaithful person is. I'm not sure what this video is from... it does look kind of like it's from a movie.

This was a common sight, adults sitting in confusion wondering what this "NOISE" is. Rock and Roll was not accepted for many years and guitar rock was thought to be a passing phase for a long time. Plus dancing was reserved for dances. You can see even Led Zeppelin shows where people sit mesmerized.

Dion is the best !!! I can't wait for Asia to go crazy for THE WANDERER, RUBY BABY, and a cover of the Chuck Berry classic, NADINE. Dion brought swagger and a carefree rascal attitude to his early songs that won over his audiences. The do-wop hand clapping and perfectly measured vocals deliver the message with a style now long gone.

That’s not the Belmonts with Dion in that video. But it is great .Dion actually hasn’t performed with The Belmonts since 1972 for the live reunion concert at MSG.

I saw an interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show several years ago. It was women who songs were written about. "Sue" was Dion's girlfriend when he was 17. He saw her talking to another guy, and wrote this song. 😂

Another great group from the late 50's-60's. They had some hits including "I Wonder Why", "No One Knows", "A Teenager In Love" & "Where Or When". Dion went solo & had some big hits such as "The Wanderer", "Ruby Baby", "Lonely Teenager", "Donna The Prima Donna" ,"Drip Drop", "Lovers Who Wander", "Little Diane" & "Abraham, Martin & John".

At the time, television studio audiences were often instructed to stay still and silent due to the recording equipment limitations

There's actually a live performance of Don McCleans American Pie where the people in the audience are just sitting there.
