VanHalen is the name of the band. It was named that because of the two brothers Eddie (guitar) and Alex VanHalen (drummer). David Lee Roth (lead singer) is a showman for sure. Very theatrical 😂
He was on the gymnastics team in high school. He doesn't hold any black belts, but practices kenjutsu since age 12, and also practices kenpo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
***ICE CREAM MAN*** hahahah David Lee Roth was my first concert alone as a teenager in the 80s...This guy is a showman and entertainer, not the best voice but he gave amazing performances.
Funny that you mention the Nicholas Brothers. As crazy and zany as he might seem, lead singer David Lee Roth is a well learned consumer of various fields who has credited part of his moves to inspiration from . . . you guessed it, the Nicholas Brothers!
Van Halen is the name of the band. The lead guitarist is Eddie Van Halen. The lead singer is David Lee Roth. Later, he left the band and was replaced by Sammy Hagar, and as far as I'm concerned, the band went to hell from then on. But for a while this band was the BOMB! Jump! was a hit in '84 or '85. Back when Michael Jackson was touring with his brothers on their Victory Tour, Michael had a hit single called "Bad," on which Eddit Van Halen played lead guitar. I attended the Jackson's Victory Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, and then fllew home to Dallas and saw them again at Texas Stadium. Eddie Van Halen appeared that night with the Jacksons to play on Michael's hit, "Bad." Then the next night, Van Halen performed at that same Texas Stadium and I saw them there, too. A fun little stretch of days when I got to take in some incredible live music.
These performances are for the listener and the viewers, the music and singer is talking to you that is why he is looking at you.. Jump, dont let anything get you down..You gotta roll wiith the punches. Back when music was talking to you not at you.. Peace. keep on keeping on. enlightenment awaits you.
Oh my heart!! So love that u younger generations r digging into all this music that was the soundtrack to our teenage and young adult lives!Pure talent back then! RIP Eddie Van Halen💜 U gotta see AC/DC live at River Plate doing Thunderstruck, one of the best live performances AND Phil Collins live in Paris doing In The Air Tonight! A stunning and mesmerizing live performance! 😎✌🏻
Van Halen (Hay-Lin), was about the Alcohol, not much into the d.r.u.g scene. These guys are the reason the term "Rock Star" has the meaning it does today. "Hot For Teacher", "Panama", and "Ice Cream Man" are all great bangers. OF Course you should watch the "Eruption" - Live guitar solo video, Eddie is an extension of the guitar, he IS THE G.O.A.T.!
It is fair to say that Eddie Van Halen changed the way the world looked at rock guitar. And that is probably due to a more European notion of how music should sound (speaking as a fellow Brit). Born in Amsterdam, his influence was perhaps not directly the rock and roll groove. But in that he revolutionized American music. It didn't have to be just about the beat. It could also be about the notes.
This is perfectly good pop rock, but Van Halen is better known (and loved?) as a straight hard rock band featuring one of the best guitarists to have lived. Check out Eruption, Drop Dead Legs, Ain't Talking Bout Love, Mean Street, Unchained, Panama, and many more!
Eddie Van Halen is the guy with a guitar and big smile all the time...his brother is in the band, too along with David Lee Roth the front man, name of band is VAN HALEN and later they split up and it was ugly and they got a new front guy named Sammy Hagar and fans split...I love David Lee Roth. :)
❤❤❤❤ Yes, for sure, they just were not the same without Roth!!!! And Dave did a couple good songs on his own, but wasnt the same either. Same with Sammy, he was better before VH.
@@aprilnewsome1932 Early days of the internet you could go into theme chat rooms for like rock music and just start trouble by asking who did it better, roth or hagar....hahaha fun times...I would start fights for giggles...not as much fun as going into car chat rooms saying I wondered if Ford or Chevy was better....the internet didn't used to have RUclips y'all....we had to make our own fun.
I never thought about the Nicholas Brothers being an influence regarding splits but you may have a point there. Other than being the lead singer of Van Halen, David lee roth was quite a showman and he employed a lot of showbiz antics into his stage routine including high kicks, splits, jumping off of drum risers, as well as Dean Martin drunken antics. His vocals sound like Louis Prima at times. Jump is their biggest hit song in terms of chart position.
You might give "Hot for Teacher" a listen. Totally inappropriate these days, and quite misogynistic but even as a liberal, old woman, I still love the song and the music video. I love my 80's hair bands!
The video for Hot For Teacher was considered inappropriate when it was first released. It was nearly banned from ever being shown. Yet, the video for it was released. Van Halen consistently hit that wall and drove right through it,
The 80s was when Mtv hit the airwaves…the videos were an extra bonus to the music. That’s when Mtv was worth watching. Because it was Music tv…not the reality tv that’s on it now.
#ayFlexREAL The lead singer is David Lee Roth. He's a black belt in many Martial Arts. The band is called Van Halen because the two brothers Eddie (guitar) and Alex VanHalen (drummer) started the band. And David was the theatrical front man and liked to bring his martial arts talents to the stage. And the name is VanHalen with Haylan pronounced: Hay-len.
And please stop making claims of what is and is not possible. This was a time when actual talent was still required to be able to perform. No, it wasn't backwards. It was a front flip and then he did a back flip as well. Stop making assumptions!
While being one of the greatest to ever play the electric guitar, eddie also had a problem with drug use, which eventually took him out of the game. I saw Van Halen at the end of the 70s, and a couple of times after. They were phenominal.
***ERUPTION*** If you haven't seen that you MUST!!! You won't believe ***HOT FOR TEACHER*** was even allowed on MTV hahahaha....and ***PANAMA*** is another big one!
You want some music rabbit holes? Check out these bands: Siouxie & the Banshees, Echo & the Bunnymen, Billy Idol, Duran Duran, Culture Club, Eurythmics.
You mentioned the lack of black representation in 80s rock and you aren't wrong. There is one band that managed to break through, and they even had a massive hit. Unfortunately, despite their blisteringly intense level of talent, they didn't achieve much fame past that one song. I have no doubt it was because of the industry not being able to deal with black hard rock at the time. If you want to check out their one hit, the band is called Living Colour and the song is called Cult of Personality
Elvis created a short-lived trend of singers incorporating martial arts moves onstage. He studied PaSaRyu, a variant of Taekwondo taught only by Kang Rhee in Memphis. I briefly learned it myself, only reaching yellow belt before a chronic joint problem made continuing a bad choice.
IMHO probably not the best introductory song for the band. It's off the album 1984 and creatively I like some of their earlier stuff. Songs like Jamie's Cryin' or Beautiful Girls from the early albums as the band was just astonishing people with their music and talent are probably a better way to become acquainted with their music. When Jump came out many people thought it sounded too commercial and the old VH was getting lost.
The video is playing off the lyrics of the song. David is playing this confident, braggadocious, macho man but it just isn't working for him. He might as well just jump off a roof. The flip side is Eddie, the guitarist, getting all the attention from just acting cute.
Produced by Ted Templeman. Written by Van Halen. 40 years 🎂 Classic 🙌 1980s song 🎵. David Lee Roth on lead vocals. He practices monkey 🐒 kung fu. Thus, he does splits here. He still does in 2024! 🤯 Alex van Halen on drums and percussion. In the studio 🎙, late Eddie van Halen played all keyboards. On tour in 1984, he played keyboards during the song except for the guitar solo, which he played. After Year 2000, he put his keyboard track 👣 on while on tour in order to play guitar 🎸 throughout the song. In the studio 🎙, Michael Anthony played only the bass guitar 🎸. On tour in 1984, he played bass synth and keyboards. After that tour, he stuck with bass guitar 🎸. Suggested video 📹: Van Halen performs I'll Wait live in Montreal in 1984.
No hes autistic a sevant and non stop practice child bieth for his mothwr must have been difficult he came out playing the guitar his brothwr alex being born with drums might have helped
VanHalen is the name of the band. It was named that because of the two brothers Eddie (guitar) and Alex VanHalen (drummer). David Lee Roth (lead singer) is a showman for sure. Very theatrical 😂
Don't forget Michael Anthony on bass
@andreadeamon6419 Oops I forgot. Thank you 😊
🌸David Lee Roth (the lead singer) is a black belt in many martial arts... that's why he is so flexible.
He was on the gymnastics team in high school. He doesn't hold any black belts, but practices kenjutsu since age 12, and also practices kenpo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Van Halen (hay-len) was the band name because Eddie (guitar) and Alex (drums) Van Halen started the band.
VanHalen was one the best bands ever to exist
Hair Bands ....yeah
🤗😍🤗
David Lee Roth was a funny guy also.
He didn't take himself serious at all.
And Yes...KARATE GUY
🤣😂😍
Van Halen is the band name because it was formed by Alex and Eddie Van Halen, two brothers.
***ICE CREAM MAN*** hahahah David Lee Roth was my first concert alone as a teenager in the 80s...This guy is a showman and entertainer, not the best voice but he gave amazing performances.
🌸 they had a lot of fun!! if you haven't already checked out the song called 'Panama', that's another super fun video
Funny that you mention the Nicholas Brothers. As crazy and zany as he might seem, lead singer David Lee Roth is a well learned consumer of various fields who has credited part of his moves to inspiration from . . . you guessed it, the Nicholas Brothers!
This song was a huge hit - 5 weeks at #1 in 1984
You're uncomfortable? Try being 14 years old and trying to deal with that!😂😂😂
Brother brings back my 80's child hood kudos 👊👊
There's a reason why they call the lead singer "Diamond Dave"!
They have a song called "POUNDCAKE" where Eddie uses an electric drill to play his guitar 😱😱😱😱

One of the biggest rock anthems in the US ever.
Love you! Love this!
I had the 8 track of them and almost got into an accident with a firetruck! It was cranked up! 1982!

💙💙💙 Hey Jay still here! Loved your reaction!
Great song and video by Van Halen. Great reaction as well.
If you think this video is distracting, wait till you react to Hot For Teacher. I can't wait.😂
The late great Eddie Van Halen on guitar and keyboards.

The Van Halen band was founded by brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen.

On jamie's crying that's from the original band van halen
Eddie Money "Shakin'" was a good one from back in the day.
This came out in 1984. It was on their album, aptly named, "1984".
We were all on drugs 😂

Check out ***CALIFORNIA GIRLS*** hahahaha the guys will love that one.
Fun fact: Alex and Eddie Van Hale
n, received the OPPOSITE instruments when they were young, and they switched, and made rock and roll history.
Check out “Mean Street”, “Drop Dead Legs”, and “Dirty Movies” oh, and “Everybody Wants Some”
It was 80s, and 80s bands were like this.
I worked for Dave back in the day. He's a ton of fun. Nice guy. You should watch "Hot For Teacher".

Check out Motley Crue and Ozzy Osbourne!! Other GREATS!!! 🤩
My first concert was in 1987 in Virginia with Barry Manilow! Have you seen him?
One of the first bands I ever saw live when I was just 13, albeit with Sammy Hagar as lead singer at the time.

David Lee Roth studied martial arts from age 12
Seems to have had a thing. For high adrenaline if you look at his bio

He took martial arts.
Van Halen was always awesome, but after Roth left the band, it was never as spectacular.
They only spent around $600.00 making this video.
I didn't "jump" at the end 😊
Lots of whiskey and cocaine back in those days.
Risky
Aerosmith love and an elevator

If a video makes you uncomfortable, it may not have been meant for you but the other sex
It's not complicated, this is called music
