As an avid mustang enthusiast, it never ceases to amaze me the things you do. It’s a good channel don’t get me wrong but you really really need to brush up on your facts and how modifications add hp and tq. You can throw big numbers at anything but there’s a few of us out there who know a little something about small block fords and there capability’s and a simple long tube, eddy 650, and 4bbl intake probably not even going to make 280 ish at the wheels on your best day. There good motors and can be fast motors but you have to spend money just like on your Miley. And please quit running engines with no manifolds. All that blue smoke is a good sign your valve seats are on there way out. Open headers isn’t going to help that. You have no back pressure and your loosing the little bit of low end power you have. Please do your research and provide accurate numbers and continue the entertaining content.

He ran the car for literally 3 seconds with no headers, calm down my guy. And yes he is a bit misinformed about 302s and such, but everyone can still learn a little, as time goes on he will learn more about them. And what you said about “valve seats” going and throwing blue smoke is simply wrong as well, valve seats don’t burn, they are not rubber or even an insulator especially on a 302. His engine is old and is most likely burning oil, the “valve seats” are not burning, they warp and even sometimes don’t get seated correctly.
Ugly Dogg the valve seats get beat to death with unleaded gas. He shouldn’t run it without lead additives or hardened valve seats

Before you add 300+ hp.. upgrade the brakes. They make front disc converions if its a front drum setup.

@@scruffy5119 drums hold heat and tend to heat up more than disc brakes, it would be better to swap for disc brakes especially for 300-400hp

I actually just found your channel. Now im a subscriber love the 1969. Im 53 and spent all my life as a mechanic I started with cars like that. Now i have the privilege to build my daughter a 1967 mustang she is helping. Who knows maybe she will become a mechanic also

I don't know if classic industry in California has a cam for ford 1969 ford 302 but classic industry has everything you need for the 1969 mustang

Yea good luck getting 400hp, i just built a 351w on the cheap howards cam, flat tops, headers, carb, intake, roller rockers it makes like 300whp. I dont what yall are thinking throwing around 400hp you might might see 250 with carb and cam.
Forst thing you need to do is rebuild the engine its worn out. Then rebuild the trans or upgrade it remember a stock never rebuilt c4 isnt gonna be happy with 400hp.
Add disc brakes also stock drum brakes are terrible. I love your content and i appreciate you dont have much expierience with older cars which is fine and your learning so its ok. Im 15, i just bought a 68 mustang did a disc brake conversion rebuilt the engine as i said and i stripped the whole car down had some help with body work and got it painted. Basically restored it. I did all the worm except for paint i sanded it i rebuilt it etc.

And thats a 351w backed by a 4spd toploader your 302 makes like 200 to the crank. It takes time and thought and money to make it fast trust me ive just learned this. Your doing a good job but dont plan for a 400whp hotrod with 3 bolt in parts it takes alot of work and time. Forst steps i would suggest are a front disc brake conversion kit and booster plus rebuild. I accomplished all this on my car for around 1300 including machine shop.

Open Headers on a old engine, will only create blow bye past the rings and eventually that motor will spit a bunch of white smoke from all the oil leaking past the seals and pistions will sound loud tho .
Not to mention the possibility of running lean and blowing a head gasket due to not richening up the carb and advancing the timing.

The 302 can be stroke out to a 347 you will keep the look, but add a lot more fun. A stroke kit run between $800 to $1500

Pull this engine, clean up the engine bay, out a 351 in it, and then clean the outside/interior.

Needs to find an old 351m for dirt cheap, then stroke it into a 408. 351m is the same block as the 400, just has a shorter stroke
351 Windsor and stroke it to a 408! You will have a strong motor
Put a 351 Cleveland in it with cobra jet heads and a bigger cam or tmeyer makes a stroker kit called the track boss for the 302 and I believe it strokes it out to be a 347 ci motor. It’d be super cool to see that

Put a E303 or B303 cam from ford performance no tune needed! E303 adds mild performance improvements across the rpm range and The B303 takes the performance up a notch without losing much streetability.

I have a 88 foxboby hatch with a 351w block sn95 heads intake and plenum heads had to be drilled out for bigger bolt size but it makes 540whp

Motor has 13:1 high compression pistons billet rods and runs on 110 but I'm sure you could make nice power with stock parts as well

it hurt me seeing y'all put those new pipes on the dirty engine. But it sounded nice! I'm running some Thrush glass packs on my 67 302 but now I wanna do open headers!
A good 300 hp setup on a 302 would be ported gt40s with 2.02 1.60 valves or some aluminum heads good headers and a mildish cam with like around .500 lift or a little lower and around 230-260 ish degrees at .50 that should keep the power in the mid range where it will be usable and a lot of people overcarb a 302 around 600 is plenty
And if that is an original 69 302 you should have a c9oe head which are pretty much equivalent to a gt40 you can work those over and have a pretty good head... sbf’s need a lot of work on exhaust flow so anything you can do to free up that will get you places faster on a 302
convert to hydraulic roller and get a trick flow stage 1 and some trick flow 11r heads

Hooker headers sound way better then the Tri y headers got a set of full lenght tube hooker headers on my 65 mustang with 23/4 tubes with flowmasters.

I heard something about back pressure on exhaust and that running open headers sounds great but isn’t the best for performance? But then Im also told that it’s a bs and don’t worry about it. Thoughts anyone?
Back pressure allows your engine to make torque at lower engine speeds. Ultimately the less exhaust the more torque and horsepower your engine will make, but your car will feel sluggish at lower speeds because it doesn’t have that back pressure to allow for that torque to be present while cruising around down. You will have to go high in the rpm band to make that greater amount of torque and hp. If you like a torquey street car, don’t go open headers and stuff. Get the right exhaust diameter size that has good flow and sounds good.
It's only bad for performance if you're not going fast, if you're going fast the less back pressure the better
I've gone from single exhaust to dual exhaust w/headers etc before, my experience:
You'll get more torque and horsepower if you find the right balance. Open headers is not the right balance, you'll have nothing down low.

I bet money on it if you take the pistons out you will find at least one with a crack in the piston skirt. 302 had a short rod and made it hard on the piston. The weak link in the 302.
