When i was 9 years old my dad and I found a 1968 Dodge charger project for sale on the side of the road. It had a 440 V8 in it from god knows where since the vin said it was a stock 318 car, but we took it to a dyno and this primer black rat rod charger drew an ENTIRE crowd. People were there betting 350 to 410 horsepower, but one guy came to us asking where we found it. We told him on the side of the road, a true barn/garage find. He took one look at the motor and told us it was most likely out of an old Dodge truck or something, and bet 220 horsepower. Lone behold our poor charger on the indoor mustang dyno made an angry 218 horsepower, and we later found out there was a hairline crack in one of the cylinders. That car was a lot of fun but we had to sell it for medical bills due to my dad getting hit by a car on the job covering a police detail. Ill own that car one day again, and hope to hoon the shit outta it like you are with this super sick ratty mustang. Keep the vids coming!

There is usually more than one idle mixture screw on the carb, depending if it is 2bbl or 4bbl you'll have a screw for each on the right and left of the front and 2 in the back if 4bbl

It looked like it was the same Autolite carburetor that was on my 69 302 that's in my 67 Mustang before I took it off and added a four-barrel
But my Holley 600 CFM has two one on each side of the carburetor and none in the back
I would imagine if he had someone to tune that carburetor and set the timing better it probably would have pushed out a little bit more horsepower

Great daily driver trust ability and great horse power and torque..might be a cool way to go, and keep the original parts.

I really enjoyed your video. The hp and torque curve shows how well the engine was designed for that car. I have the same engine in my 69 stang and I am happy with the performance just the way it is. My car's exhaust is modified with 4 inch pipe and flow masters. Sounds great and has very good driveablity. 87,000 original miles. Ford did their homework on this engine I believe. It's a great cruiser with just a little get up if you need it. Not going to change the engine a bit. I have had the 351. A 69 engine also. I liked it maybe better but I am happy with the original engine with the car.

Clean it up and paint motor and get some nice valve covers to keep the numbers matching and put some nice old school cams on her and mostly restore Betty man, other then the paint she needs to be black like sally and Miley. Give the engine an overhaul. The Boss 302 made about 370hp. A healthy 331 or 347 stroker will give you 420hp easy. Then put a 5 speed in it and do a fastback conversion for added style. And get rid of that hideous green interior too.

It also has long tubes, exhaust, double timing chain, re did the crank and bearings. Supposedly a mild crank but who knows about that. Would love to see an intake swap, heads and cam swap for your 302! Rebuild the c4 with a shift kit and get a limited slip for the rear with a 3.25-3.50 ish gear so you can still drive on the highway without the engine screaming. Awesome video! Cool to see a 69 Coupe getting done!

Sounds like a 2 barrel carb. You probably have the basic F code engine, which was rated only at 210 bhp when new which means by todays ratings was actually only about 190 horse. Rebuild it, swap intakes, with a 4-V. If you could find a set of 302 boss cleveland heads and intake would be great. Put 2.225 intake valves, & 1.647 exhaust. Bore 30 over and put flat top pistons. There are several sites useful with information on bumping up old tired 302's. Oh, and get rid of the AT & get rid of those street gears in the rear end.

  • @dustinjenkins1709
    @dustinjenkins1709 5 лет назад

You definitely need to get a 4 barrel intake manifold and 4 barrel Holley carb. You need to start small before you go to things like cams. Plus if it can't breathe your not going to see gains and you heads and cams need to work together to make good power. Also the c4 is killing your power too a toploader 4 speed would make more power. When doing you're pulls you're better off to shift it 1,2,D because the auto isn't going to ring out the engine high enough in the power band. Don't get too crazy tho those cars don't have rev limiters.

I have always wanted to do a swap in an old mustang with a 302 from a Fox body Mustang or V8 explorer. Great power potential, fuel injected and much cheaper than coyote

If you're gonna do any kind of engine swap, a Coyote is the only way to go. Drop an LS in this car and you'll disappoint a lot of people, including yourself eventually.

If you wanna do something really cool, you should build a 302 or 351 with Cleveland heads for it!

Cam, 351 heads, 3.73 gear and a new air cleaner. Electric cooling fans might be a good option too

Zanders 351 heads are just e7s he needs gt40 heads or afrs

When he got the car, he said he was trying to keep it classic. Gt40 heads weren't available then so 351 heads were the best option when you had a 302.

Depends on how much time you have man. If it was me and money was no object I’d pull the motor and get it painted while I rebuild the motor.
But some guys like the aged look with a sexy clean ass motor. As for the motor 4.6 4v is not a bad route but you’ll have to change the drive train. As for that motor bad ass intake machine the block ( fresh start ) total over haul cam update the fuel system and maybe port the block you’ll be right around 350-400 nice cruiser but also beats grocery getters

THE HIGHER THE OCTANE OF GAS THE LESSER BTU'S. SO IF THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO RUN ON 87 OCTANE, WHICH HAS A HIGHER BTU, YOU HURT THE RESULTS BY USING A HIGHER OCTANE AND OCTANE BOOSTER.

Why is the vacuum advance on the distributor disconnected? It will run much better with it working.

I like the Classic 69/70 Shelby GT500 Body with Modern Chassis Drivetrain!...For Example if I could Purchase a 2020 Shelby GT500 Base Model and I would put a Custom 69/70 Shelby GT500 Body on Top of the 2020 Shelby GT500 Chassis!...I am Just Saying!... God Bless America! 😇
