Overrun it like they do at 1st to get there quicker. This way, you would need to be tagged out while rounding toward 3rd base. Meanwhile runner from third scores for winning run, ballgame over. It happens more than you think, a shortstop's throw from the hole gets the runner by a whisker. Anyway, the radio guy gave me short thrift on air and almost laughed at the stradegy. Years later, Bobby Valentine, as commentator on a nationally televised game said one should never overrun 2nd base unless it wins a ballgame as I described. Way to go Bobby. To this day though I have never seen it done.

I'm a Dodger fan but find this funny they don't learn from history. Bill Russell did the exact same thing in the 1977 (I think?) World Series. Reggie Jackson was the runner on first and he leaned his hip into the throw to Garvey at first. The umpires did not make either call and let the play stand as is. With the deflected throw Thurman Munson scored from second. So Russell would have been better off just catching the line drive.

I heard Rob Manfred is writing a Field of Dreams sequel called Future Soccer Field. The tag line is "When You're an Idiot, They'll Stop Coming"

What is wrong with Los Angeles California that not even their baseball players can be honest? There is something fundamentally wrong with that entire part of this nation.
