I'm suprised more batters dont throw bats at the pitchers. Some of this tit for tat shit is ridiculous but it was a slow curve so if it was intentional, it's a free bag. High near the head, then it's a bit more justified. The showboating can be done by both sides without people getting hurt. Baseball can be boring so if you cant celebrate a big HR or a big strikeout, then the game gets even more dull. Other sports have celebrations without 100mph balls being thrown at heads... .

@@Loghy It was explained that he was trying to go around the catcher (for whom it's customary to stand on the inside and swipe backwards after the catch). When he saw that the catcher was on the outside he made the decision to slide headfirst around the inside. The throw brought the catcher inside (as the announcers said) and they ended up colliding. He looked sorry and publicly apologised bc he was trying to avoid a tag altogether, not cause a collision.

2:02 "He didn't make much of a move to get out of the way, that wasn't that far inside" - Guerrero backflips his helmet off to escape a pitch exactly where his head was 0.1 second earlier.

Imagine the terrible situation we would be in if Marisnick got hit in the head by that ball and it broke his face. That was stupid by the Angles. Hit him low.

Agreed. There’s a clear lane to the outside of the plate, that’s the lane you use with a ball coming from right field for sure. Lucroy didn’t step on inside, and the guy fucking lowered his shoulder and just laid him out

@@cadekuster1301 ruclips.net/video/qe3qCWHVh68/видео.html Oh ... the inhumanity of playing catcher. Lucroy was on the line, appearing to be setting up outside. Both the runner and the catcher go inside, which the angles shown here do not show. Marisnick lifted his arm in defense of the collision. It was not malicious. It was an unfortunate happening. No way is it meant to intentionally hurt the catcher as many of the collisions in that video I am using as an example. I'm guessing you are just a Angels or Cardinals fan. The only 2 teams or people affiliated with them, that think this is an absolute horrible act of intent. If Marisnick isnt a class act, I guess he was telling his teammates to get back in the dugout so he can wipe out the catcher again if the opportunity presents himself after being hit by a pitch.
4:48 if you pause, is the moment both Lucroy and Marisnick shifted their momentum from outside to inside of the line. The replay where it shows Marisnick running from 3rd to home, which is hardly shown anywhere, you can see the decisions made, that led up to the collision.
According to the new rules by the letter, he is out, however there should be consideration when a catcher also changes his positioning in order to get the runner to deviate from his running path. I don't believe Lucroy was trying to do that, I think he was setting up for his glove hand to sweep Marisnick but the ball was coming to his right shoulder and he turned inside to catch it at the same moment Marisnick also decided to go inside and it was too late to alter back. It should be a judgement call on whether there is intent. I bet you if it were Boston or New York, there would be more discussion about whether the rule needs to be amended or even if their players would be out.

Fuck that if the runner thinks his best chance at scoring is going inside and the catcher takes that lane away (which he should) the catcher should be prepared to accept the consequences

  • @Drozzzable

You can tell Jake Marisnick did not hit that catcher on purpose when you see him get hit by two fastballs near his head in the same game and just ran down to first not wanting to make an issue of it. That tells me Jake felt really bad about hurting that dude.
