      I've read that Dewalt is working on a new model to 1-up the competition. That's what's awesome about having choice, they're always making bigger and better tools. It's just like anything else, it'll go back and forth on who offers the most torque at the moment.

    I just got one and so far I'm impressed. I used it for one tire change and soon ill be using it for my suspension. I just use setting 3 to loosen my lugs nuts. Mine are torqued to 90ft/lbs. But I've found setting 1 to be useful for tightening the lug nuts a good few smacks before setting the car down. Makes my tire changes soo much faster. After using hand tools for 12 years ill be happy to use it again.

    I use mine in an industrial setting w/ various size bolts and this thing is a boss. We break rusty nuts w/ it all day long and it's paid for itself numerous times. The detent (sp) pin is a must if you use a swivel. Trust me I've taken a socket to the forehead. The bother is worth the trouble. You can't go wrong w/ this model - Dewalt got it right on this occasion.

    You are correct about the tool's durability. I was at a stop light when a Dewalt DCF889 literally fell off the back of a pick-up truck in front of me. By the time I realized what it was, the p/u truck driver was long gone. Anyway, I stopped and recovered it but the handle cracked off leaving the battery dangling from a small section of the handle by the tool's wires. I took it appart at home and glued it back together with Gorilla Glue. Bought a charger for it and a year later and it still works fine. Dewalt tools takes a licking but keeps on ticking.

    I did a similar test while changing wheels for the summer, my lug nuts are torqued at 80 ft-lb, I could remove most of them at setting 1 (100lb). However, to tighten, no way it's 100 lb, even at setting 2 (300 ft-lb), I could still tighten maybe 1/16 of a turn with a hand tool afterwards. When I torque it by hand feel, might be higher than 80 but not above 100 that's for sure. So yeah, not quite at all compared to the official numbers. Reverse torque might be higher. Don't know about setting 3 but doubt it's 700 ft-lb for forward torque. Oh and I did it with a fully charged battery, so no, no difference with your numbers.

    • @DS2951
      @DS2951 4 года назад +1

      You shouldn't be torquing something with a impact anyway. It's to get it loose and to get it tight tight. All impact are notoriously unreliable with tightening torque numbers. You snug them down and then torque them.

    • @thaik56
      @thaik56 4 года назад

      @@DS2951 As I've said, I could even turn it with a hand tool which means, the torque was from being excessive from the power tool at setting 2.

    Wow, i work in a truck body shop, and use these dewalts on everything! We have 3/4" and 1" CP windy guns, and these dewalts perform just as well. We torque 1.25" bolts to 1490Nm using a 6' long 1" digital torque wrench, and the DeWalt guns will crack them back off again if needed. I'm having trouble believing that you are struggling with lug nuts... Something seems amiss.

I don't know what kind of trouble you have with yours but mine has broken many brand new and old 5/8 grade 8 bolts. We use all new bolts when shortening semi trucks or changing fifth wheels or axle torque rods and my DeWalt can easily break the old rusty bolts and can back off over 1000 ft lbs easily enough I am sure. My click style torque wrench only goes to 650ft lbs but I can easily tighten past that with my DeWalt so I think 700 ft lbs tightening is no exaggeration in most cases. I run an 8ah DeWalt battery. I have even used it to change wheel loader tires. I would not even want to use it on that little wheel you used it on for fear of twisting it up like a pretzel.
