I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

im a Semitruck mechanic in germany the nuts on the wheels get 600Nm which would be around 500 lb/ft (i think) that thing just rips them loose no problem it literally has more power than the 3/4 inch compressed air powered impact wrenches we have in our workshop

Going on a road trip this Thanksgiving into December. Several 1,000 miles, 6 weeks. Old guy. Getting weaker. lol. Just bought the DCF899M1, driver, 4ah battery and carry bag, $299 at Home Depot specifically for flat tire lug nut removal. I will bring along the breaker bar and torque wrench. But did I mention I am getting older? lol. I need to get a lighter jack also. I can use this on my two shovelhead's primary's as well, rather than the air impact. ( I have the 20V max outdoor tools with 5 ah batts, used a lot this fall and older 18V shop tools. Got the retro adapter to run the 20V in the 18Vs. Anyway your video solidified my purchase. Now I can tell my Wife............be cool
Great tool. I attach a dough hook to it to use it as a baking tool. I've used it to mix concrete. I also put a mower blade on it to mow my lawn on a creeper.
I bought this tool shortly after watching this video. Better or worse than the Milwaukee...who knows? It doesn't matter anyway, because batteries are expensive. I am on the DeWalt platform, so I bought this one. And...WOW! It rips my 8 lug nuts off like it is melting butter! I am old school. I am just not used to battery tools being this powerful. My old impact hammer was pneumatic but...man... ...If DeWalt keeps putting out tools like this, I am going to have an air compressor for sale soon!
I bought one of these almost three weeks ago after returning a smaller DeWalt impact wrench. The DCF899 was more powerful and it was only a few bucks more. I am very glad I made that decision. I needed the highest setting to remove the lug nuts on my Dodge Stratus because the place that put on my tires way overtightened the lug nuts. I'm going to carry this tool in my car trunk in case I have a flat!
…and now we have the Milwaukee-bustin’ DeWALT DCF900 with the Craftsman CMCF940 being a rebadged version of the old DCF899 that even outperforms it on Torque Test Channel. :) After a nightmare with lug nuts so tight they ripped the threads off the studs, I got a broken DCF899 and a used CMCF940 and confirmed they had the same internals. I swapped parts from the 940’s identical internals to fix the 899’s broken anvil and then ordered replacements to restore both. Even though the 940 was only months old after being released with a 4AH battery in 2022, I found it with an upgraded 6AH battery for only 140 (online pawn shop listing). Since I didn’t need two versions of the same tool I gave the 940 to a friend and he’s been absolutely blown away by it! Again, the 940 is a rebadged 899. Anyway, he used to work in a Toyota dealer service department and knows what a good pneumatic impact can do but he’s mostly using it for personal car and ATV work these days. He even tore apart a 20 dollar bolt with it last week and was so impressed he wasn’t even upset! Meanwhile, I look for excuses to use mine (the repaired 899). :)

great video, i’m sure it doesn’t hold as true now with better and stronger alloy rims, but i was always taught to tighten lugs in a starlike pattern in order to center the wheel better and minimize the flex of the rim. Thank you for your video, i believe i will be purchasing one in the future.
Cool. The mass of the socket also has a big effect on how the tool performs. I would try a heavier socket on the smaller guns and see if they will do the lugs on your truck.
I've got mine in the UK. Ours are called 18v, but they're the same! Trying it on a crank bolt soon!! My battery wobbles about a bit though? Swapped for a 900, eats this for breakfast
I have one of these guns and it took a 250 pound rusted nut off, my 18-volt battery ran Flat earlier, so I stuck a flexivolt 6 ah battery and to my surprise it did the job well, it took a bit of a struggle on some of the other nuts but it finished the job. I also have Milwaukee impact wrenches but I'm going to keep this DeWalt one, proud of this one
I’ve been a tech for 45 years and been using a “Mac” version of that tool. Mac is De-Walt. Looking at them the Mac has a more heavy duty protection on it and the batteries. Had it for a long time, works great.

Great video presentation. After watching several of these videos & trying to decide between this 899 or 894, I've noticed no one jacks up their vehicle to lessen the weight on the wheel. And that can make a big difference on the torque necessary to get those lug nuts off.
Run the 899 with the 8ah battery...gives it a little super charge! Most of the time I use the 5ah battery. But if I need a little more kick , I switch to the 8ah.
Just to be clear, the 8ah battery won't give you more "power" just a longer runtime over the 5ah battery... More power (increased torque) would be accomplished by increasing voltage....
@@skilledjack7054 Actually, due to the differences in design, higher AH batteries at the same voltage will produce better tool performance under heavy load applications, such as in a big impact wrench like this. Protoolreviews gives a great explanation of this phenomenon. Aside from the written proof, I would have known it anyways in my every day tool use. The small batteries just don't have the 'umph' on the tools that require immense energy
They are good aren't they.😊 Another use I found for mine is removing the SDS arbour from my hole saw , which gets very tight after drilling through a 4½ inch brick wall two courses.I managed to find an SDS to ⅜ hex adapter for that plus a socket from my set . Speed three but it managed no problems. Ps, great to hear Imperial/Sae measurements as well, here in the UK, they tried to wean us onto metric too but nobody bothers with that unless forced too. I've had the 899 detent pin kit for a few years, it's great but a bit big for tight areas.... recently bought the new 922 detent pin kit and it's very impressive for its size....lug nuts are nothing to it.
I work at an auto shop and am looking to get out of using pnemautic tools and have been thinking about which 1/2 inch battery powered i will get, im invested in dewalt 20V already (which is such a great line) and im gonna go with this thanks :) i just need to find the right package i dont need a charger or anything
Dewalt make a better 1/4" drive impact than that, you can pick it as it has the 3 way switch on the base. It'll happily snap 1/4" adaptors if you go full send, yet setting 1 is "finger tight". Perfect tool.

I'm planning to own a car shop in the future (will work mostly on all cars and engines) so would be a long term investment. I suppose you cant use this on smaller bolts ? Like a 10 mm because it will just snap them off ? Is there a tool for that kind of stuff ? (probably the impact driver you showed ad the start ? ) Thanks for any information. Nice tool...nice video... just one thing....use metric sockets on metric nuts...almost every manufacturer switched over to metric in the late 80s...especially overseas items...standard/imperial will work..BUT....ahh, anyways,,great vid.
I wouldn't use the wrong socket... lol Everything is not metric. Loads of manufacturers still use standard dimensions. My truck runs 13/16 wheel nuts (aftermarket).
Great question! Torque wrenches work on spring tensions. If you leave the torque wrench under tension in storage, the spring can weaken, which takes your torque wrench out of calibration!
I use the Dewalt dcf899 at work and the Milwaukee 2767 at home and the one thing I dislike about the dewalt is that my sockets always come off the gun the pin is bad I've tried others to and it is repeatable, the milwaukee uses the locking ring and sockets come off 70% less
It looks like you are yanking down on the torque wrench. That’s going to give you false readings. Don’t yank quickly on it. Smooth steady pressure until it clicks.
I'm now major confused. You show "899" but Amazon and others show "889". So what is it? Could you provide a link to Amazon and say: "this one". I will need a battery and a charger, I don't need a bag, but it would be OK if that is the only way. I am really confused now. I don't want an '889" if it isn't the technology you demostrated. Ben, the exact one I have is right here at the top of the comments section. The 889 is a different gun. The 899 is what you want. The link I have listed includes the battery and charger!
…also, Milwaukee recently lost the “most powerful” half-inch high-torque crown to the new DeWALT DCF900. The DCF899 in this video was already several years out of date and he was very clear that it was DeWALT’s best… not THE best. Since last year DeWALT’s best and THE best have been one and the same: DCF900. Milwaukee is great and typically beats DeWALT in most categories so there’s no reason not to get Milwaukee’s latest and greatest half-inch hi-torque if you are already in the M18 line… just avoid that faulty B variant that keeps breaking. Milwaukee should have replaced them all in sales channels but there are still some circulating in the wild.
Well it's service to this community without regard for remuneration. Said reviews carry much more weight - as they're by definition objective, or at the very least, not skewed by any kind of obligation towards the brand.

Whatever setting it takes to remove a lug nut, use the next lowest setting to put it back on and then use the torque wrench to final torque setting.
Great strategy! I also use the 'ugga dugga method'. When re-installing, I count the ugga duggas to gauge tightness!

between buying the air compressor and the hose and the impact gun, this must be a great deal altogether.

Those that complain about the DCF 899 not living up to its claim must not know how to use the tool and it’s setting purpose.

Good review, one thing to note though is the max torque is 700 ft lbs, the breakaway torque is whats 1,200 ft lbs

Ingersoll Rand W7152-K12 has 1500 ft-lbs nut-busting torque.

Is it better than Milwaukee?
No, it’s a 7 year old design but the latest DeWALT DCF900 finally takes the crown from Milwaukee for the most powerful half-inch hi-torque.
It looks like you are yanking down on the torque wrench. That’s going to give you false readings. Don’t yank quickly on it. Smooth steady pressure until it clicks.
I'm now major confused. You show "899" but Amazon and others show "889". So what is it? Could you provide a link to Amazon and say: "this one". I will need a battery and a charger, I don't need a bag, but it would be OK if that is the only way. I am really confused now. I don't want an '889" if it isn't the technology you demostrated. Thanks!
Ben, the exact one I have is right here at the top of the comments section. The 889 is a different gun. The 899 is what you want. The link I have listed includes the battery and charger!
889 is the mid range impact gun. 899 is the high range impact gun.

…also, Milwaukee recently lost the “most powerful” half-inch high-torque crown to the new DeWALT DCF900. The DCF899 in this video was already several years out of date and he was very clear that it was DeWALT’s best… not THE best. Since last year DeWALT’s best and THE best have been one and the same: DCF900.
Milwaukee is great and typically beats DeWALT in most categories so there’s no reason not to get Milwaukee’s latest and greatest half-inch hi-torque if you are already in the M18 line… just avoid that faulty B variant that keeps breaking. Milwaukee should have replaced them all in sales channels but there are still some circulating in the wild.

Well it's service to this community without regard for remuneration. Said reviews carry much more weight - as they're by definition objective, or at the very least, not skewed by any kind of obligation towards the brand.

What's the betting the lug nuts which had been carefully torqued to 150nm are now at about 400 after tightening back up with the DeWalt!!!! 🙂
