Whoever wrote the script for this video needs a raise. This has to be the most informative video I have found regarding the Toyota Crown.
As a watcher of the car industry, I was not only shocked, but bewildered, dismayed and quite frankly, flummoxed at this new revelation.
Thanks, Scotty! We bought a Crown in march and so far, we’re very pleased.
Had two Camry Hybrids that I took to 160k miles and 150k miles respectively. 1st was totaled when I got rear ended. 2nd I traded in when my wife wanted something new. Both were wonderful cars and incredibly reliable. That is ZERO problems. And not a hint of reduced efficiency due to battery wear, although I realized I was probably getting toward the end of battery life. Another thing to mention on those cars (2009 and 2012) while Toyota called their transmission CVT, it was for lack of a better term. The transmission was actually one set of planetary gears that stayed engaged all the time. No wear components like you’d get in a traditional transmission (CVT or otherwise) so I saw that as a reliability trade off with the battery. The best cars I’ve owned.
I still drive my 2012 Camry Hybrid and have had much the same experience. The battery drives like it’s new and I’ve never done more than basic maintenance and replaced the front shocks. I’m getting ready to pass it to my son for his first car.
@@Egalitarianism_Secularism They really are the best for fuel economy without range anxiety. I”ve since passed on my Camry and picked up a Toyota Crown. It’s a hybrid and a real fuel sipper, as well. I have just over 1,300 miles on it and I’ve used about two and a half tanks of gas. I really don’t think I will ever own a non-hybrid again.
We love our 2023 Toyota Crown, especially ALL the safety features. Easy in n' out seating, great gas mileage, definitely a keeper for many years to come.
I'm vacationing in Japan at the moment, I saw one of these new Toyota Crowns in Yokohama city just three days ago. A fine looking car, if you can come to terms with the "unique" body paint scheme. It's a Toyota so it'll be a good'un. Many years ago, (1975), I owned a 1963 Crown wagon with the 2.0 litre 3R engine, then a 1969 Crown wagon with a 2.3 litre straight six they were both "brilliant" vehicles and were great to drive.

Scott I remember researching Toyota hybrid batteries before I bought my first prius in 2014. I believe it was a Consumer Reports study that showed prius batteries are extremely reliable and long lasting as they had tested numerous batteries with 200,000 to 300,000 miles and still retained like 98% of their efficiency. I was immediately convinced to buy a prius. I'm hoping to enjoy my 2018 for hundreds of thousands of trouble free miles 😊

Stuff the consumer report - the majority of taxi drivers drive Auris/Prius/Corollas. That’s why I bought a Lexus CT200 - now 10 years old with 100% perfect reliability.
I think the NYC Taxis are a testament to Toyota's hybrids being reliable.
We recently purchased a 2024 Toyota Crown in the platinum trim level and we love it! It definitely has a unique look and in the bronze two tone it’s a classy look. Glad there is a distinctive sedan on the market that’s not boring. Love your channel Scotty keep up the great work.

Scotty, your content should be course material for a high school/college elective. You could license the vids in several series to universities and students could learn about, and fix their own automobiles, and earn credits. Publish more books. I have two of them, but for the schools to sell students. They should give you an honorary "Mechanical Engineering Degree", because you have taught and informed me about auto stuff I was hazy on. You clear it up, and it saves me money. This is good stuff. Very ineresting and focused correctly. Good clear production as well.😉

I saw the new Crown in Japan recently. It's absolutely magnificent in the flesh. I want one.✅️
We had a Crown for 25 years in Japan. Wife didn’t like the new Crown and it’s difficult to get in/out of. Our Japanese dealer told us Toyota will produce a 2024 Crown sedan in late 2024.
As for us we ordered a Toyota Harrier (Venza) and should be available in early November.
Harrier is no longer the Lexus Rx didn't know that it's now the venza.
I just got a Venza here in the US. It's by far the nicest car I have ever owned. It's a limited trim, and has every feature Scotty mentioned that the, "Crown", has. I'm getting 46-47+ mpg, not the 39 he mentions. It will switch to EV mode anytime it doesn't need a lot of power, I've seen it happen at 75 mph.
I saw one of these the other day and I thought it was very interesting and impressive looking!
Thanks for another great video, Scotty! My wife loves her 2018 Avalon Limied. I love my 2021 Venza Limited. Both are comfortable to drive and get around 40mpg. So if we decide to trade in our two "loves" for a single vehicle, the Crown has the best features of the Avalon and Venza.
The crown looks pretty sweet. That may be the biggest selling point. Sweet class A combined with other selling points like mpg and extra space
Though it isn't my kind of vehicle , it looks pretty cool and modern. .

It may not be the car I'd buy for my hard earned but it's definitely something I wouldn't mind driving.
As for hybrid, Toyota's hybrid system is pretty good. Somebody in my family who just wanted to have a small run-around, bought a Prius C many years ago and it's been a reliable vehicle. Toyota's servicing cost (in Australia) has also been lower than for most competitors. (We still have nightmares about Mazda, in that regard.)
In the family, we've had a few Toyotas over a decades and they proved to be among the most reliable cars, compared to all the other brands we had. There were some years when Toyota made what you could call "appliances" but a few years ago they even started to make fun, sporty cars again.
As for me, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for an FJ Cruiser reincarnation. The only thing that pushed me onto a competitor in the last minute was the ugly look of the FJ. In hindsight, maybe I should've got one. They have legendary reliability, from owners' reports. A few years ago, some FJ Cruiser concept drawings were circulating but unfortunately, that vehicle looked like it had been redesigned for Barbie and Ken, for when they go the beach a few times a year.

There were other Crowns not mentioned. Anyone who has been to Singapore knows the durability and longevity of the Crown Diesel used as taxis. These are full sized 6 pass stately cars that run for decades. Toyota has lots of great cars that never made it to the US. Id pay double if I could have a Toyota full sized van.

I wish Toyota would offer a non hybrid version of the crown. Then I would probably buy one.
I think the battery is going to be the issue with these cars when looking at the second-hand car market. People will keep them from new, then around the battery life expectancy, trade them in.
As with all used cars, you're buying someone else's problems but knowing possibly $1000s of dollars right off the bat. I know I wouldn't.
From what I understand, with the hybrid set up, you don't really rely on the high voltage battery to operate the vehicle. This is a great advantage over other set ups because your engine will just run more if the battery is pooched. No biggy.

Nah I have 2 used Prius for my kids and have had no problems they are both at 150,000 and smooth as ever
i rented a hybrid a few years ago when my lexus was in for service. i was surprised how nice it was. i would have no problem buying one, but knowing about the battery issue scotty brought up is good to know, as i always buy used cars. let someone else pay for the new car smell.
The money you save on other maintenance will go most of the way towards paying for the hybrid battery replacement. Toyota batteries are designed to last for the life of the car, though. If you take care of them, it’s not a problem.

As a Camry Hybrid owner for several years, I can speak to benefits and downsides. Benefits are with in city and rolling hill suburban driving fuel economy. The downsides are fuel economies with long distance and mountain drives. The small 4 cylinder engines are not efficient in those conditions. Very cold weather increases fuel consumption as the system tries to bring the engine and hybrid electric systems up to optimal operating temperatures. Two cooling systems and the long term battery maintenance or replacement have increased maintenance costs. I have paid them.
Current internal combustion engines achieve the same or better fuel economies as my decade and a half old Camry hybrid, without the downsides. My replacement will most likely be a conventional internal combustion engine in a sedan or crossover. My winter fuel costs will be better by 15-18%.
I love the Crown. It looks like no other. My brother bought one on my recommendation and everywhere he goes Tesla owners are overcome with awe and envy.

No the crown is being shipped to Western markets. It's Toyota's longest standing model. I have an 2005 S180 series Crown Athlete. A sedan.
I think Crown will sell well because it still drives like a car with greater performance, has plenty of room and great gas mileage. That's my kind of a car!

I suspect the taller stature of the Crown is because eventually it will have a huge battery eventually as a EV.
Exactly why they got people used to bulky high profile vehicles.
How do theses things hold up in Arizona heat,everyone here has to replace batteries and window electrical components every every two years,can’t imagine what electric engines would cost!
I think the thing that turns me off about the hybrids is the added complexity. As an engineer, I'm well aware of the fact that a product that has more components & complexity is inherently less reliable...
The hybrid does have some advantages, at least Toyotas do. The transmission is a planetary gear set connected to a hybrid motor and the engine, so there are no clutches to wear out. There’s no torque converter, starter, or alternator (those are functions of a hybrid motor), and the A/C compressor and water pump are both electric. They only operate when needed and their mechanical components are spared a lot of wear when they aren’t. Maintenance costs are also significantly lower. My 2012 Camry Hybrid still has the factory brake pads thanks to the regenerative braking system.

100% agree! Otherwise, would purchase the Platinum. However, the front end of the now-extinct most-recent Avalon was also a mess in my opinion.

I was smiling and chuckling as I watching the video. I drive a 19 year old Avalon. My next ideal Toyota described: manual transmission, not driven off road, no 4 wheel drive, no computer on each tire, no need to hook up to electricity at home or on the road, no heated seats.
And I read that the Crown has a nimh battery pack, like the earlier Prius hybrids, not the highly flammable lithium battery. That one feature would cause me to consider the Crown.

Just got the crown in July...we love it, drives awesome. Great 9n gas. We dtove it from Austin Texas to Rapid City S. Dakota....drove awesome. People always comment on how the car kooks.
The Crown really does check all the boxes for my needs. All wheel drive, great gas milage, Toyota reliability and it's lifted for the occasional dirt roads. I love it and I'm hoping to get one soon.

1974 Crown manual 4 speed was a great car , my old man had two of them and he was a panel beater / spray painter , and he had a 1970 before that , I learnt how to drive on the 2 nd one , it kept up with 4.1 fords on the highways at full tilt ... The Crown is a legend , in Japan
I had one of those back in 1985. It was slow but never broke down.
The plug in hybrid with forty mile range is the lowest CO2 emission vehicle if CO2 released during manufacture is also considered.
Upgrading from my 2023 Prius limited AWD to the 2025 Toyota Crown Platinum. I’ll be upgrading the RAV4 hybrid to the Crown Signia when they release the platinum version. Beautiful vehicles they really nailed it.

Great history, had a neighbour in Regina, Sk and I can’t recall it bad motor. Wasn’t a comparison to Duster or a Maverick/ Grabber. But fixed the ‘74 Mustang 0:00
Like your vids and info. At 69 years old I have a hard time with the new direction of vehicles. EVs and hybrids have not been around long enough to convince me of them being long lasting. Why this direction. The car companies always saying last 100K-200K. Yep and then practically have to take a long new to buy new battery. They are also too complex and expensive. Not sure believe the surveys that say hybrid are long lasting and dependable. Except for the Prius no other hybrids have been around that long. BTW 1993 Camry with 305K miles. Not having to buy a battery. LOL😊

There are several Toyotas in my extended family. Every one has been great - few if any repairs, fantastic reliability.
I remember "Scotty" starting, in an earlier video, that the Avalon, the car that the "Crown" is replacing, was so much BETTER than "THE CROWN!?' So, Scotty, what happened, why the sudden support for the cheaper made, 4- Cylinder Crown, all of a sudden, over the better made, 6- Cylinder Avalon???🤔
Hiya Scotty, I think the new Toyota Crown is a great looking Vehicle. Even though it’s a hybrid, Toyota have had the experience of hybrids more than any other manufacturer and as such. Based upon their experience with this technology compared to its rivals. I would assess that this car is going to sell really well.
Scotty, thanks for doing this vid. I'm an oldster and am looking for a 'living room on wheels' kinda ride. I want no road-feel and those damn potholes in my area bug the hell out of me. Isolation from the road, quiet ride, easy on gas and comfy qualities are my main desires. I have a 2020 Acura MDX right now and think its okay but it needs a more silent, comfy ride factor. Do you think the Crown might suit my needs? I have ridden in a new Genesis GV70 SUV, a somewhat older Lexus NX SUV, a slightly older Caddy SUV, many Honda SUVs plus some others, yet they all fail doing what I'm looking for. Please help! Cheers.

Looks more like a bigger hatchback (or estate if you're from the UK) to me. Personally I like my hatchback's with a more square back like the Golf. It's just a more practical use of space but I'm sure the crown is more flexible than the Camry. Camry's are good cars just not as flexible as a hatchback.
We love our’22 Camry hybrid, 47.8 mpg on the hiway at 75 mph, 52.8 around town.
I would love to have one. BUT I fear there is too much driver assist "Options" that are just more crap to break. I'm a Carolla\Camery fan. It has to be DIY for me to allow it.
Well going off of Lexus in my experience they usually let u remove all the driver assists on the gauge menu. I doubt they'll remove that option.

The Crossover isn't the only model of Crown; Toyota has three other variants: Sedan (RWD), Sport, and Estate. The standard RWD Crown Sedan is already in production.

Love it ❤ my next car ! Yes I trust Toyota & Lexus hybrid this will be my 3 rd one lexus HS 250 camery hybrid XSE and next the crown to replace my HS 250 hybrid .
If they limit the rear black paint to just the trunklid, it'll match the front and look much better .

Got our 2024 Crown Platinum 2 months ago.
It was hands down the best riding car we test drove.
The Ford 500 which became the 2008-09 Tarus was a raised sedan and a great car.
I'm weird, can't get into SUV's but have a thing for lifted sedans, Outback Sedan, Volvo S60 Cross Country Sedan, and now this crazy beast. (and wagons of course).

I drive for Enterprise. Drove a new plug-in hybrid Chrysler Pacifica to the Portland Airport yesterday. Smooth. We drive many different kinds of cars. I like the hybrids. So do the customers.
Look at Volvo cross country if you want more room and ground clearance with aerodynamics. V60 and v90 wagons. Subaru has Outback too and MB has all terrain etc. Kind of cool look of lifted wagons.
I drove the crown and loved it! Maybe if they make it a hatchback.

It has a eCVT which is way different than a traditional CVT. My wife has a 2024 Lexus NX350H and it drives , sounds and shifts way differently than any CVTs I have ridden on.
The Toyota e-CVT system is simplicity and bulletproof. No clutches or brakes or chains. Not even a torque converter. No starter or alternator either.
Now, can we get the Continental? I want it in America, importing the older model still looks nice. i have some VHS tapes somewhere too
So how does the Cross' road clearance height and characteristics compare to older sedans from the 60's and 70's? Is it giving back more of what we used to have?
True. Just take a look how 1960 mustangs looked. Great in snow even with ground clearance they had.
Yes cause I have 2 70s 4 doors and they sit a lot higher then any sedan today
How hard is it to change the regenative braking battery?
Wonder how long those batteries will last in the vegas heat. Currently I replace my batteries in my gas engine every two years.
Just purchased a 2023 Toyota Crown and my wife really likes it. We traded our 2012 Avalon limited and I miss a few features it had over the XLE but nothing serious. Rides and drives great but the interior is a like less stylish than our Avalon I think. The trunk is a little smaller but big enough for large suitcases. We like the higher entry into the car over the Avalon and the seats seem more comfortable. If the Crown lasts 12 years like the Avalon did and I get the same trade in value I will be a happy camper.
My dad said that he's never buying another hybrid vehicle because the cost of replacing the battery, he went through 3 batteries and each cost $2500. on the 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid.
And they were probably "reconditioned" batteries, iffy at best. Watched a video on the CarCareNut wherein the battery was replaced on a Toyota, and if I recall correctly, about $6K for the battery from Toyota, plus the technician. Definitely not a do-it-yourself project on the subject vehicle. In the case of your father, $7500 will purchase a LOT of gas!
I love the idea of "Generator Vehicles."
Vehicles that can sustain themselves while in motion. As it drives it charges. No need for plug in charging or fuel!!!! Figure that out and get back with me. .. 😉

Most of the taxis i saw in japan a month ago were older late 1980s toyota crowns. All in excellent clean condition. I saw 1 new camray as a taxi. So there is an automatic pool of new taxi buyers
