I tested both cars. Seems like the Toyota engine is a bit louder than the Honda . Both are great, but the crown is great for snowy days.

Totally agree. I prefer the Accord's powertrain but the lack of AWD is pretty much a deal breaker for me!

Nice comparison. Will be good to see how the new Camry compares to both.

My concern with the Honda hybrid is the engine might have GDI without port injection. This leads to carbon build up on the back of the intake valves.
I'm fairly certain the Toyota hybrid has both injection systems.
I don't believe the Honda hybrid has a CVT or eCVT. I believe it is mainly a series hybrid (electric car with gasoline engine just running a generator). These stepped "shifts" must just be rpm changes in the engine generator and maybe programmed power dips from the electric motor (and that would be weird to reduce vehicle performance just so driver can feel "shifts"). There is a gasoline engine direct drive mode to be more efficient out at highway speeds when not robustly accelerating (it isn't efficient to create electricity to immediately use it).
The Toyota hybrid is mainly an electric car with gasoline engine assist (especially below 45 mph). There is no need for an electric car to experience shifts.
Out at highway speeds it could be argued that it is a gasoline car with electric assist. The 2 motors work with the planetary gearset (eCVT) to make the gasoline engine do all the work at the correct rpm for maximum efficiency.
I'm grateful that both vehicles avoid the use of turbos.

@JustinPritchard why not just do it in one video? Are their lights that complex?

Awesome video! Just curious which one would you recommend 2022 ES 300h or the 23 Crown? Im just looking for a nice ride that has the least amount of road noise on the highway.

Tough call there to be honest. I'm not sure. I've driven the current ES generation, or if I have it's been years.
I've always enjoyed previous versions of that car for the highway ride, actually one of my favorites.
I hope you test drive. Both, the Lexus will be roomier but if you can deal with a little less space in the Crown, I bet you'd be surprised at how close to the Lexus it is.
      Do let me know!

I was looking at the crown, but the accord is pretty close to size and has more internal space. That’s a big deal for me. I’m seriously looking into an accord for the next car

I might have missed it, but a turn radius or ease of 3-point turn including visibility could be a nice comparison for similarly sized vehicles as well. Especially helpful when you have to turn around on some gravel side road when you miss a driveway.

Excellent review ! One panel member of CR stated his favorite test vehicle for 2023 was the seemless Accord Hybrid.. and the cabin size is impressive.. making me rethink if i want a hot hatch after all??!? Too bad it lacks AWD

of all the things that honda is so excellent at doing, why would they not put a spare tire or sirius radio access in the new Accord hybrid....man, that can be such a deal breaker...and I heard people miss a heated steering wheel too.....why Honda, why?????

Sirius XM and all other content apps have to be run from your phone via Apple Carplay or Android Auto. I agree its disappointing Honda dropped it from the infotainment interface. You can still get a 3 month trial as Sirius XM is having subscriber losses ans needs new customers. Also, you only need a base streaming subscription available for under $10/month. Player controls in app are currently inferior to old UI infotainment options for presets and play/pause functions.

The Honda does not have a spare tire, not even a donut spare.

What a deep, informative statement. I have the 24 Accord Touring trim. If you don't live in a compromised climate that needs awd, this car is absolutely perfect.
