- A family has a very close call with an Amtrak train after becoming stuck on the tracks in Ashland, VA. As soon as they became stuck nobody attempted to exit the vehicle. Train arrives on adjacent track, no injuries. Please be safe out there.

"Woo! We made it off the tracks!"
**Drives off into oncoming traffic**
Niko The Arms Dealer 😂
You have no idea how many people go down this road the wrong way to avoid having to go up another block to cross the tracks
they figured out how to move after the train stops? These people are like the squirrels in middle of the road who cant decide which way to run.
i love how the train stops perfectly to the side of the van, almost as if the engineer was pulling up to say "so, you're new here?"
Some wheel alignment guy just got paid.
I need to move to Ashland. All the action is there!
There or in La Grange, KY
Train slowly eases up beside them, train driver leans out the window, "You folks lost?"
I guess they forget what reverse is for?? How do people like this live past 4 years old?
Tommy Hunter they tried reverse. What they should have done was not worry about the noise it makes, and gun it.
Fixing some suspension is better thanks being pummelled by a giant hunk of metal towing 10 plus other giant hunks of metal
Yep.
They don't. They're actually dead from the neck up.
I'd answer that second question, but it is too political.
It's amazing how unaware of the danger they seem. They're just sitting there checking their map, it seems. No rush to move.
Amazing how they just sat there and didn't even attempt to get out...and waited for the train to come to a complete stop, THEN drive off the track....SMH...wow...
Top 3 places for idiots in railcams.
1. Ashland
2. ?
3. ?
Chesterton, IN
Just wait until there's some British railcams. I'm sure we'll see plenty of idiots.
PlotTwist How dare you
11foot8 bridge, in the past few years, I think.
shelby3024, Number 2 is: Folkston Georgia.
Love how they drove the wrong way after getting unstuck.
Love how NO ONE got out of the car, which would have been the smart thing to do.
Drunk ppl driving?
I'd put my money on talking or texting on the phone.
A passenger opened the rear door.
Kids? No child safety locks on or were told to leave.
This is not the first time someone did this at this very exact spot. The other driver's car was hit by a train shortly after.
Nah, they're just American.
PlotTwist im american i live 33 miles south of there i was there at that time i was dark the railroad cant be seen that easily
Now I know why my Amtrak train is always late. They have to stop for some malarkey happening on the tracks in Ashland.
they literally drove right onto the tracks
Probably intending to make a left turn onto the road past it, or thinking the rails were a road. It doesn't look like it was very dark or foggy that night, so it's ridiculous that it even happened.
That's standard procedure in Ashland.
secondman: where are we driving today?
engineer: we're taking the train as far as ashland
secondman: *#@*$@#$&@
This level crossing is the bread and butter of that channel : P
Good stop by Amtrak they pulled right up next to them
the ashland train station is right behind that crossing
I'm sure the engineer rolled down his window, leaned out and yelled, "Hey lady! You're on the railroad tracks!"
Might be worth putting small red reflectors that are flush in the asphalt on opposite sides of the road crossing the tracks, maybe give people a more shiny visual warning.
While some town are known for beautiful scenery, historic buildings, Ashland is known for cars that think they're trains.
Wow. No hazard lights. No jumping from the van and running for dear life, or waving arms to alert anyone. No effort to do anything for themselves. I can imagine the lives these 'people' live. Wow.
Obviously there is a design problem if so many vehicles are ending up on
the tracks. Why don't they make a ramp from the rail-bed up to the
road so cars can back out before someone gets killed! Maybe add a
little more ballast too so they don't bottom out and get stuck.
Darawn ohhh Darwin... why did you leave. Your work here is unfinished
One of those oops moments. Glad no one was hurt
This junction seems to see a lot of action.
Was that a police car that just rode by and did nothing?
Exactly!!! How did he miss that?!?!
He was probably texting.
Not texting... following the driver of the cute sports car...
Without checking, I believe the same thing happened in the other video here of the vehicle being hit.
A cop was going by about when the vehicle drove onto the tracks and he kept going only to return moments later.
I could be wrong but to me it looks like a security vehicle. Not a police officer
It amazes me that most of this town's drivers can't get through a train crossing. He tried to make a left turn when right is the only legal way to tun on that street. Even if left was legal, he still would have the same driving skills and He waited to long to make the turn he thought was legal. I don't wait until you're in the center of the intersection before turning. You're supposed to curve nicely.
Get out of the van!!!!!!
Perhaps "quiet zone"?
No reason to when they apparently could have just driven away the whole time. They might have had more important things to do like texting or doing make-up or something.
@@ReflectedMiles Another commenter said it looks like they read the car's manual to figure out how to put it into 4WD.
@@DueySR Maybe. There seemed to be indecision with the side door being opened, then the passenger door opened, the interior light going on and off, including after they had pulled away. I suspect most people who know they are driving a 4WD van would just look for the lighted button that says "AWD" or "4WD" assuming it even had that capacity. I doubt there is a procedure involved.
When the GPS says "turn left" that usually implies to turn while watching the road, and going AROUND the corner. If you turn when the GPS says to, it prolly won't work fam.
Honest Dad , the van was out of alignment when I got in it
We have a couple of crossings where I live (Northwest side of Chicago) where they installed quadrant gates because drivers keep making right turns onto the tracks.
As Buggs Bunny would say, "What a maroon!"
Especially applicable here when you consider the definition of maroon (a verb): "leave (someone) trapped and isolated in an inaccessible place, especially an island."
My goodness, these tracks has some magnet for making people go crazy to fall into the tracks!
I didn’t read any other comments, so sorry if this was asked. Ok, how does this keep happening? Seems to always be at night. What are the drivers seeing(or NOT seeing)that’s making them turn onto the tracks? Can there be some sort of lighting to direct them through the crossover?
These are very scary events when they happen. I was a witness to one in Bellingham Wash. back in 96. 3 college age girls got stuck in a similar manner in an older VW station wagon late in the evening. The crossing was on a curve with two sets of tracks.. I arrived right as they tried to turn around and got stuck. Almost to the minute a horn blew and a switching engine approached with several cars attached. The girls were panicking and would not leave the car. Myself and another driver somehow coaxed them out. Fortunately the train turned out to be on the adjacent track but due to the curve it was not obvious until the last minute... Scary...
Loved the music you put with that!
I assume that Amtrack now informs passengers that there will be a several hour stop in Ashland, when they buy their tickets.
I take it this happens often? This is the second time I've seen this exact scenario here in the past 6 months.
dunno where you got the music but it's perfect - priceless!
I love how people stay in the cars when a train is coming..... :-(
Engineer: You can't go down that part of the road without a vehicle like mine!!
Driver: (hiccup) Oh....darn!!
Family always said it would be there destiny to go off the tracks.
*sees train* hold on family, let's just park on the tracks to watch this beautiful train go by.
Nice little upbeat tune makes it feel more like watching clips of Darwin Award nominees in action.
yep that was very close luckily it was on the other track. that's why you need to watch out how you drive. And then some people wonder why
lol at music!
0:30 - Looks like a Hanover County Sheriff's Deputy vehicle
I wonder if that big bright light on the pole to the left doesn't cause these accidents by casting a shadow from the street over the tracks making it appear as though it is black top when it is really a hole where the tracks are.
Man there are so much people who underestimate cars and train tracks, by that I mean that the rails can catch the bottom of cars but the drivers think can smoothly ride over it.
Love the music. Very appropriate.
In the UK (Although we're now phasing them out) we have swing gate barriers that when the traffic is allowed through the gates block the rail line, it seems like here would be a good place for swing gates?
Roboko They wouldn't help. the trains would just smash through them.
Paco Ramirez no the gates aren't for stopping the train, they're for stopping people driving onto the tracks. When the train is passing through the gates don't block the train but the cars
The female driver later asked "can I park here"?
I need to set up a towing company in this town. I could make a lot of money.
The music was perfect!
Lol even if it's someone who just moved there, seriously their brain can't be missing a few spark plugs😂
Is there something in the water in that town. ?
How does this happen..?
Someone is asleep! The bumps of the tracks should have woken him up. It is a miracle that the train was not on the same line as he was, though it would have been polite if the train driver had given the motorist a hand to get off the line. He had a lucky escape.
may i have the background music please? it's too amusing for me lol i really want it, many thanks
name of song?
How did three incidents happen in one month?!
Chech and Chong- Am I driving okay man... I think we're parked man! Shouldn't have had that last couple of drinks, I guess.
when you go to work early on a monday
"Let's just sit here on the tracks and weigh our options as the train goes by."
Good job!
Its hard for me to understand why this seems to keep happening in this location. Its clear that changes need to made to the signage or better barriers need to be built it would seem.
are you serious?
I wonder if the engineer just stopped to get a good laugh and then announce it to the passengers.
What close call?
I'm glad that there wasn't an accident! 136 is my fav P42DC!
derpy nis Fav P42DC u mean?
Nice!
It's fantastic )))))
That driver is entitled to vote. Frightening!
OMG.....use reverse. How do people get DL's?
They REALLY need to put like Caution Cones or Barrels AT THOSE GAPS!
And they drove off like nothing happened...
XD
was that not a cop 2 cars behind them before they turned?
Seriously what is going on in Ashland??
Car: YOO HOO HOO . . . I WANNA BE LIKE YOU - HOO HOO!!
one time i was biking and i came to a crossing, only 1 track. then a train came. then when the train was gone i started to cross. then ANOTHER train was coming and i almost got hit by that train and taken out by the crossing arm. luckily i did not get hurt
Does anyone ever set up lawn chairs to sit and watch the action!?🤣
The music made it funny !
I see this, and I'm like "...How?"
And they SAT THERE! WOW!
What was "close" about it?
Train engineer- “Hey, your going the wrong way!”
like what is wrong why didn't they get out what if a train comes in the opposite direction....Im confused at what some people do.
This happens almost daily there.
Another GPS error.....this happens all the time on Long Island. I have to give credit to those Amtrak engineers....I've watched a bunch of these videos and they stop those trains pretty quickly...good decision making.
I wonder how many Amtrak passengers took pictures
Looks like the "self driving" car cannot come soon enough for some people, JJEEEZZE !
They'd still find a way to end up on the tracks.
This may seem like a dumb questions but 1. Why did they stop their track was clear? 2. How did they get it stopped so fast? and 3. According to the comments this happens often why is Ashland a Quiet Zone?
Xavier johnson
1. They stop because the risk of stopping is minimal compared to the risk of hitting a car.
2. Train went into emergency and it’s a light train, it will stop in a fairly short distance compared to a freight train.
3. It’s a quiet zone because recent studies have shown use of horns doesn’t reduce vehicle/train accidents. People either look and obey the crossings or they don’t, most all railroads now have quiet zones and use horns that send a very focused directional sound. Not sure how that works but if you start moving away from a trains path it’s much harder to hear the horn, from what I understand it uses a type of Doppler radar. I would say within a few years horns will only be used at the engineers discretion.
What is wrong with all the people that seem to turn onto these tracks?!
The appropriate music for this one is: The Great Escape.
Very lucky people. Despite their stupidity, they survived unscathed.
"I got this dear-shut up-stay in the car kids-close the d - - - door--" and off we go. OMG SO MANY NUTSY DRIVERS OUT THERE
Something like this happened a while back
My gosh That was so close
wow so close!
Best part is hanover police 2 cars back just watching it happen😂😂
we'll buff out those scratches
From time to time?!? Pretty often, it seems!!!
