Before the internet you felt so lucky to stumble across such a video on television. And the enthusiasm would grow to buy the record because of such a rare treat. All the associations leading up to buying the record, physically, would only add to the experience. In the digital age of consuming music - we’ve lost something precious.

So young... there was a time where I scoffed at depression and anxiety, where I judged those who talked about how "down" they were with flippant disregard... till I went through it myself. I can tell you from experience, it isn't really being low, it's the up and down, and when it comes in waves, overwhelming you, drowning you in negativity, fear, and when it seems like it takes all your effort just to take a breath, it is really really hard to cling to whatever remnants of positivity (if any) you have left.
Mine was event based and thank goodness temporary, but it gave me at least a little insight into what it is like for those who have chronic depression and how difficult it is to live with it. Never talk down, never judge, until you've walked in their shoes. I used to do just that, never again. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

many people say how can a person like chris who was so loved do what he did..the problem is no matter how much other people love you, how much money, fame and cars you have, there is only one person we spend our whole lives with, YOU. if You dont love You, there is no fix. I speak from experience, and it saddens me to see chris and chester gone now, as I lost my father. A man so deeply admired by so many, The real sadness is that the person didn't find the love in themselves to stick around. We all want to cry and say he left us, but he also left himself. Stay good everyone and love yourself.

I remember the day this album came out. It was really sunny, late spring and my girlfriend picked me up from school in her green Honda Accord. We drove around listening to the album...she had a denim mini skirt on, and it became increasingly hard for me to pay attention to the cd. I made it through though...Thanks for the memories Jennifer. Man she had some legs!! P.S. I went to Lollapolooza that summer to see Soundgarden, Metallica, The Ramones, Screaming Trees, etc. What a great time in my life, I was 18 and everything was wonderful. She broke my heart 3 years later, but when I hear a Soundgarden song I am back in that Honda, totally in love with her, the music, the sunshine, denim skirts...

This is one of my favourite Soundgarden tracks. Sounds still so refreshing compared to much of current rock music. Soundgarden were one of the most sophisticated grunge era bands with their chord structures. Their chord structures are just so fucking cool especially on songs like this. And I've always loved Matt Cameron's drumming, a very essential part of the Soundgarden sound just like Dave Grohl was for Nirvana. They are both drummers who's playing draws ones attention unlike many other drummers.

Werd. I was about 12 when grunge exploded through '92, and it was the perfect soundtrack for that interesting and mind-expanding transition from preteen to teenager. Soundgarden...Alice In Chains...Nirvana...Pearl Jam....Temple of the Dog...Mother Love Bone...Helmet...Chili Peppers...Faith No More...STP...Metallica...GnR...Tool. What a time to be alive. My world revolved around MTV, anime, videogames (Were you a Genesis or Super Nintendo guy?), and cute girls.

"'Fell on Black Days' was like this ongoing fear I've had for years ... It's a feeling that everyone gets. You're happy with your life, everything's going well, things are exciting-when all of a sudden you realize you're unhappy in the extreme, to the point of being really, really scared. There's no particular event you can pin the feeling down to, it's just that you realize one day that everything in your life is fucked."
If you've seen "The End of the Tour" you will find that these words are stunningly similar to things that David Foster Wallace (who also hanged himself) said.
      RIP, Chris

    I caught the moon today
    Pick it up
And throw it away all right
    I got the perfect steal
    A cleaner love
With a dirty feel all right
Fall out and take the bait
    Eat the fruit
    And kiss the snake goodnight
    Common ruse dirty face
    Pretty noose is pretty hate
    And I don't like
What you got me hanging from
    Let your motor race
    Pick it up
    And get this mother gone
    Out from and far away
    The wooden stake
This thing has got me on
    Diamond rope silver chain
    Pretty noose is pretty pain
    And I don't like
What you got me hanging from
I don't care what you got
I don't care what you need
    I don't want anything
    And I don't like
What you got me hanging from

the fact that Chris took his life doesn't now make this song "ironic". It's really the exact opposite of ironic. He always addressed the forces of inner darkness in every song he made - it was that core creative/destructive being that created all that amazing art he has left us with. Pretty Noose isn't ironic of his death, it's an ultimate expression of those incredibly powerful forces, just like his death was.

I saw them in 1994 super unknown tour, right after k.cobain died, they seemed so sad like it really affected them too. They didn't even do out-shined , people screamed it out half the show, but it didn't matter All their stuff kills. Really sincere dudes that play from the heart man.RIP Chris Cornell he sure could wail. must be tough being a rock star.
