I like the way the writers crafted this scene. Although J.R. hated Pam, he understood in that moment, Bobby's love for her. He seems to genuinely care in this scene, and it is a credit to Patrick and Larry to play it this way. A beautiful moment in the series for sure.
I don't usually believe in things like "missing cast members from TV shows", but in this case, you felt Bobby's pain because the audience was also in mourning over the loss of Pam. We knew the show that gave so many people so much joy would never be the same because it was that core cast dynamic that made it was it was. Dallas became an empty shell without VP, plain and simple.
You could tell JR was genuinely sincere here about seeing his baby brother in pain. They may have fought and disagreed at times, but they were blood brothers who when the chips are down, loved each other.
I think the show knew that as they lost central characters, the intrigue would decrease. However, with ratings decreases, and demands for higher salaries, keeping many of the original cast members on would simply be cost prohibitive.
From my perspective, Victoria Principal was the main protagonist of the show. When she left, it was never the same. Patrick tried to fill in her shoes, but the series was never the same.
This is so true. Didn't help they got rid of Donna Culver Krebbs at the same time. DALLAS was still awesome right up until their final respective scenes on the show. When they both left, it was never ever the same again. I myself finally gave up on the show when Sue Ellen leaves. That was it for me.
I always call the seasons after VP and LG Invasion of the Blondes...I stopped watching too after Gray left...I think they should just had Pam disappear ..find her car abandoned ...her disappearance could have been orchestrated by Katherine...not a full on kidnapping ..but she could had Pam hypnotized to forget about Bobby and want to leave him never return to Dallas...Bobby could have searched for her of course...but then they had Pam meet with Cliff and tell him she doesn't want to come back to Dallas she is tired of the conflict and wants peace in her life ...
This was a year after the dream season. This is how the show ended my senior year of high school. The show was never the same. I almost wish they would have re-casted Pam with another actor. Even in the new Dallas (2012-14) I almost have a hard time believing that Bobby could be happily married to anyone other than Pam.
I wish Pam and Bobby could've had the opportunity to have a baby together. After Pam disappeared, Bobby, Christopher and Cliff weren't quite the same anymore.
That scene showed J.R.'s soft side..seeing Bobby Hurt, even thought JR hated Pam he really cared for his Little brother. Yeah, Victoria Principal shouldn't had left the show. It went downhill from there, but that scene..should of said that she Died.
Patricia Hill That so true. This is one time that Bobby needed the support of JR. Ewings look out for each other. JR had come to care for his sister-in-law, Pam too.
Patrick Duffy and Victoria Principal would have made a great PSA when it comes to the dangers of talking on the cellphone while driving as a reference to their Dallas characters.
Bobby was Jocks favorite, while Gary was mama's, and Jr. could never please either one.Jr.really cared about Bobby, even though he hated showing it.Scenes like this made it clear. My heart broke for Bobby and Pamela.
@Norma's Bath In storyline purposes- After Pam saw herself for the 1st time after waking up from a coma, Her doctor was ready for her to see herself with the bandages removed- She was so hideous- She didnt want to scare Christopher. Thats when she decided to leave Dallas, divorce Bobby again & abandon Christopher. She thought she did was right- Bobby was devastated & it took time for Christopher to accept what happend. In the reboot- J.R had been looking for Pam- Bobby was surprised. He said it was part of his master plan to get Cliff out of their way for ever. In Pams will, She left her shares of Barnes Globbal to Christopher, which Cliff was controling due to him not telling Bobby or Christopher that Pam had died, not from the accident- But from Pancreatic Cancer. It was all revealed in the reboot. She died 2 or 3 years after the pancreatic cancer- Not the accident: It was the source of it starting.
Horse manure. She had the right-of-way. The truck was at fault for driving out in front of her. If this were real, his license should've been suspended if not revoked. There's no "lol" about getting critically injured.
InvestorGuy66 Right of way or not, she was distracted by her car phone conversation, then looking down when hanging up which is why she didn’t see the semi cross in front of her.

When Victoria Principal and Susan Howard left the show, it went down hill. The characters of Michelle and James were terrible and they could not save the show.
Quite right. After Victoria Principal left and Pam's future was left in limbo, there was a pall of sadness that hung over the whole show. And sadly, it never got any better. An entire line of strong female actors - Linda Gray, Susan Howard, Victoria Principal and Deborah Shelton - all left "Dallas" within a few years of one another. Their 'replacements' were weak and not memorable at all.
To be fair, Michelle and James didn't show up until 2 full seasons after Pam and Donna left. I mean, there were plenty of new characters introduced in Seasons 11 and 12 that had their shot to be memorable, and they failed too.
The story line was stupid beyond words. The producers should have let Pam die and have funeral for her. Victoria Principal made it perfectly clear that she had no desire to return to Dallas. She told producers by 1985 that she wanted leave in 1987. The producers did not respect Victoria's wishes.
Jason- true, but I'm sure they knew losing the character would really put a void in the show. Jenna's character served little purpose after Bobby and Pam got back together. Jenna and Ray had zero chemistry.
That actress Margaret Michaels or something recast the role of Pamela for one scene in 1988. She was an absolute dead ringer in both voice and looks for Victoria Principal.
Well, thirty years later and I still have not seen or heard another actress besides Margaret Michaels who could have convincingly portrayed Pamela, have you? Given how sharply the series dropped after Victoria left, what did they have to lose by recasting such a major role?
What i never comprehended as a kid n all these years as an adult.....End of season 11, Jordan tells cliff he inadvertently encountered Pam.....Cliff rushes to SF to inform Bobby n request both go n bring her home.....Bobby told Cliff "Pam left on her own n she will have to return on her own." I cld not rationalize his attitude b/c it was not like Pam fell out of love with him n ran off to find herself n the meaning of life....She was in a serious accident that left her with 3rd degree burns over 90% of her body.....She made arrangements to flee both the hospital and Dallas upon the bandages being removed n seeing herself in a mirror......I wld not describe Pam as stop u in your tracks stunning, but she was far from a bow=bow, she was an attractive women......I cld only imaging her shock n horror the 1st time she looked in a mirror....Very challenging to come to terms with......Based solely on that, i was baffled by Bobby's reluctance (they eluded to cancer upon her rebuffing cliff n not returning to Dallas....In the re-boot, Pam was unsuccessful in finding a cure n died from pancreatic cancer)....
JR was brought up to be tough and ruthless, Gary was too weak in character and Ray well he was never at the level of JR or Bobby. However despite their many fights JR cared and loved Bobby.
There's a deleted scene on RUclips that was not included on the DVD. It shows Ray, Jenna & Charlie driving home from the hospital and seeing a tow truck towing Bobby's Mercedes after the explosion.
It's funny to see how those paramedics were able to completely put the burnt body into bandages especially given the length of time it takes to do that. Oh, and all that in a medical chopper? Completely believable, right?
While I liked the way the reboot show handled the explanation of what happened after she left, they really should have just killed her off here instead of clinging to the small hope Victoria would return.
There is NO way anyone could have survived that car crash! This was the beginning of the end for Dallas! 😢 when VP left they should have got Margaret michaels to take over the role of pam!
Dallas was not Dallas without Bobby and Pam. Was JR the lynchpin of the show? He was after he got shot and Jock passed away. But Bobby and Pam were the glue because of how it conflicted with the Barnes/Ewing feud. It was built in tension when JR is under the same roof with the sister of that idiot Barnes. With Bobby and Cliff, they would switch from allies to mortal enemies and back in a New York minute. Sue Ellen was also central because of how she was caught in the middle of JR's cheating. Once Pam, Sue Ellen, and Ray left the show became a soulless dystopia.
Without JR, Jock, Pam or Bobby would have never made it to season two. JR was the breakout character from the first moment. Had JR left instead of Bobby the show would have ended. It carried on because of JR.
actually this season was good, the following season, season 11, 1988-89, terrible. Besides JR, Pam was the most needed character of DALLAS. The show rated # 26 in the ratings, after rating # 3 the previous May, viewers had had it.
After Pam's 'accident', there was a sadness which hung over the show. I remember it was difficult to tune in to the show and watch Bobby & Christopher try to come to terms with this 'new' normal.
Producers were sure they could get Victoria to return - so they tried to leave it open. In retrospect they should have recast - but didn’t want to leave themselves open for the Donna Reed Miss Ellie scenario.
Or have season 11 become another dream season with Bobby waking up from a nap waiting for Pam to come home. I guess they thought they could get Victoria Principal back just like they did Patrick Duffy a year earlier.
This originally aired as a 2 hour season premiere, in September of 1987, it ranked # 26 in the ratings, after ranking # 3 the previous May, in the episode where Pam had the accident.
The writing breaks my heart I know they didn’t want to kill her like they did Bobby and have it be hard to bring her back, but having her “leave” her family just tainted them. Instead April got to be the live that never left him and truly died. It just ruined what Bobby and Pam were. It sickens me
Pam was a sickening, annoying, character. She should've been BLOWN UP years before. April had ten times the looks and class. And Victoria Principal was a horrific actress.
@@tombstone1111 absolutely wrong! Pam was Bobby's love of his life! She was beautiful and had more class than blonde bimbo April! I never liked them together! Pam+Bobby forever!!!
This plotline was horrible. I can't believe none of the family visited Pam in the hospital, especially SueEllen who was her friend. The family acted like it was no big whoop when she left. The exit of this character was handled so poorly. Pam wasn't even looking at where she was driving, she deserved this.
How can you be so cold & vicious!? It was an accident. She was talking to Bobby & making plans to get home as quick as possible! & she was telling him about how the appointment went. She was so excited & happy- just like Bobby told J.R; I hated the idea about Victoria leaving the show. Pam & Bobby were finally happy again & accepted Lucas as her step-son. I am not trying to stir up an argument- I seem to vaguely remember some thing of who caused this accident--I honestly dont remember- I dont think it was included in the dvd set, neither was the scene when Ray, Jenna, Charlie & the baby were going home from the hospital & they saw Bobby's car in ruins. Does any one remember if it had been talked about?.
@@brandihilton8485 I know the scene you're referring to, Jenna says that looks like Bobby's car and Ray says it's not Bobby's car. The exit of VP was what finally killed the show.
In fairness, they started filming this season immediately following the last one, with no hiatus, because they thought there was going to be a writers’ strike. And the producers thought that Victoria Principal would be back and was just playing hardball in her negotiations. So they had to remove Pam from the scripts very quickly. That said, it just stunk the way they did it. Everyone was like, “Oh too bad about Pam. Hey Teresa, what’s for dinner?”
Personne n était autorisé à voir les grands brûlés lors de leurs premières admissions ensuite il est vrai que pour sue Ellen elle a pu la voir après sans que cela apparaisse dans la serie
He just pulled up to the front door of the hospital and parked in what was clearly an emergency zone. The absolute arrogance of wealthy Texans is disgusting.
I noticed that too (wincing)...I almost expected to see him turn around as he was rounding the car to the steps of the hospital...just to see if there was damage, lol
frank dracmann They don't - LOL. Looks it they did that so that viewers would think the victim was really the actress playing Pam (Victoria Principal).
Conveniently, no other cars were blocking the Porsche. This is also one of those episodes where everyone finds incredibly awesome parking right outside the entrance to the hospital.
The guy that is bringing pam back around is the same guy that gets killed by ED-209 in the 1987 Robcop film and also its the same hospital where Alex Murphy is taken when he gets shot in the film
still to this day the producers have begged her to regain her role as pam...she keeps saying she wont...but maybe one day she will and a reunion will take place?bobby-pam-and sue ellen are the only ones left...right?and gary?is ray still alive?
they did a new series of dallas a few years ago . it was finally confirmed in the new series that pam died from pancreatic cancer . when hagman died jr was killed off the new dallas as well .
The ones left from the original early in it's prime Dallas, that was there the longest are Patrick, Linda, Steve, Charlene, Priscilla, Susan, & Victoria.
Agreed. So many people in my area are always talking on their damned phones and texting while driving too. I was driving home from Target a couple weeks ago and some woman on her cell almost T boned me then a year ago while walking home I nearly got runover by some girl texting. Thank God I got the license number of both cars those times
Agreed. They should have had Victoria do a little PSA that could have aired right after this episode. “Millions of people are severely burned or die in car accidents because they are distracted and on the phone while driving. Don’t be one of them!”
Very poor planned exit for VP after she gave two years notice to leave. Then disappearing in bandages cutting ties with her family . Completely out of character. Lorimer were in Limbo as they couldn't kill off Pam, fans would think she'll return in a shower like Bobby so they mislead viewers to thinking she may come back. The show was dead once VP left.
I am not surprised VP left after the dream season it was rediculous . I think they should have ended Dallas with Bobby and Pam having a baby and the whole family at the christening everyone happy and laughing as Bobby said another thing JR if you ever cause problems for me and Pam I will knock you into the pool again !!
Wonder If she saw the 1988 episode carousal..??I Noticed here ..They redid Sid's car crash of on knots landing from knots 1980-81 cliffhanger...Just letting the audience know of the crash ..Not the characters know on the show...XD
I stopped watching the show mid way season 10 but it made me really sad watching this 1st episode of S11 because i knew i would never see Victoria on this show again. Ever.
Dallas had lost the magic after departure VP. Storylines became ridiculous. I was so happy with the reboot but that was not good enough. The only good thing about the reboot was that we finally knew what happened to Pam.
I like the way the writers crafted this scene. Although J.R. hated Pam, he understood in that moment, Bobby's love for her. He seems to genuinely care in this scene, and it is a credit to Patrick and Larry to play it this way. A beautiful moment in the series for sure.
Agree
Bobby and J.R may not have seen eye to eye when it comes to business or women, but in the end they are brothers for life
Jock and Miss Ellie drilled it into JR and Bobby that in a crisis-family closes ranks and sticks together.

I know that I Victoria had said if she had stayed on the show ..It would have interfered with her work outside of the show..XD
She left because of bad writing, etc.
@@TheEwing69 Bad Writing..like that stupid dream season..xd
@MrCraigblaze - which was what??
@@mjj1434 The 1985-86 season with Angelica Nero !! XD
He just pulled up to the front door of the hospital and parked in what was clearly an emergency zone. The absolute arrogance of wealthy Texans is disgusting.
2:32 carpeted hospital floors?? I don't think so.
Yes there were. Started working in hospital as nurse in 96. Carpet everywhere. Two or three more years before they pulled it all.
How would she be wrapped up so well right after the accident?
Great ad for why you don’t talk on the phone while driving.
In those days, noone had cell phones.
Dallas wasn't as good when Jock died.Dallas wasn't as good when Pam,Donna went.First 5 reasons were the best plus the 2011 revival.
I wonder what Victoria thought when this aired back on September 25,1987..Only to see she left ..But just not the way she thought..??..XD
Why was she wrapped up in gauze before she got to the hospital?
If I was Bobby I would be more concerned about hitting the Kerb with my Porsche 911 @ 2:19 (joking)
YEA..And Pam almost had a crash in that same car during the dream season..XD
I noticed that too (wincing)...I almost expected to see him turn around as he was rounding the car to the steps of the hospital...just to see if there was damage, lol
@@libra42ful What did happen to the car..??XD
@@MrCraigblaze That was creepy foreshadowing! Did you notice that Pam's final scene was also somewhat of an homage to her very FIRST scene?
Since when do the paramedics bandage the whole body including the head?
Ya , but it look's fake.
frank dracmann They don't - LOL. Looks it they did that so that viewers would think the victim was really the actress playing Pam (Victoria Principal).
Oh my god 😢 Can’t believe it !!!
Southfork's pool doesnt have a diving board..this must have been filmed out in LA
love it!
Keys were always left dangling in the ignitions of the cars in the Southfork driveway.
James Kennedy and the convertible tops were always left down.
Nice to see 6 cars in the drive way...BUT the only 2 home are Booby and Christopher...??..XD
And they ALWAYS peeled out whenever getting in the car!
there were only 3 cars, Pam's Porsche, Clayton's Rolls and Ms. Ellie's VW lol
Conveniently, no other cars were blocking the Porsche. This is also one of those episodes where everyone finds incredibly awesome parking right outside the entrance to the hospital.
This was really badly done. So unrealistic - with those severe burns - why was she straddled in all those bandages?
😂😂😂 good question
Im confused. I thought Bobby died before Pam in the series. He was hit by a car and she was at his funeral!??
Keep dreaming!
I know that JR and Bobby had their differences, but JR didn’t like his youngest brother to suffer like this.
Any doubts JR cared about Bobby?
The guy that is bringing pam back around is the same guy that gets killed by ED-209 in the 1987 Robcop film and also its the same hospital where Alex Murphy is taken when he gets shot in the film
Good ol’CareFlite.
still to this day the producers have begged her to regain her role as pam...she keeps saying she wont...but maybe one day she will and a reunion will take place?bobby-pam-and sue ellen are the only ones left...right?and gary?is ray still alive?
Jim Davis and Larry Hagman are dead. No reason to ever resume the series. "Pam" was nauseating.
they did a new series of dallas a few years ago . it was finally confirmed in the new series that pam died from pancreatic cancer . when hagman died jr was killed off the new dallas as well .
The ones left from the original early in it's prime Dallas, that was there the longest are Patrick, Linda, Steve, Charlene, Priscilla, Susan, & Victoria.
Who plays the ER doctor.??..XD
Without Pam Dallas gets over 😢
When Larry Hagman died in 2012, Dallas was really over for good.
Poor Bobby! 😢
Distracted driving, 1980's style
On that Telephone!!! They really are a hazard!!!!!!!
The show went downhill after Victoria left.
Understatement of the year.
paramdics wrapped her? That would have been for the burn unit. They also wouldn't know she had internal injuries without ex-ray or scans
Third-degree burn 😢Who can live with such a burn … 😢
Jr was caring here
But not for long.
The Ewing Family, was the puzzle on Password, tonight. I guessed the answer.
Pam doesn't do quick turns....
Is JR sincere ? Because he is so jealous of Pam !
Oui il est sincère même si il déteste pam il ne supporte pas de voir Bobby souffrir
@@gildan958 ok
Bobby: "How bad was the car damaged?"
When Victoria told the show to Kill of Pam..This is NOT what she had in Mind...!! XD
Wonder If she saw the 1988 episode carousal..??I Noticed here ..They redid Sid's car crash of on knots landing from knots 1980-81 cliffhanger...Just letting the audience know of the crash ..Not the characters know on the show...XD
A young Bum
fact is....she wanted way too much to renew her contract..so they killed her off..luved her...but greedy
I stop watching once Pam is gone.... it's boring and Hagman lost his fire and JR was always a punching bag and loser.
And the baby 😢😢😢
In early 1987 the show did say have Pam ...Just NOT Victoria..XD
Um. what???
I hope Pam is ok
